In a follow up to my post earlier this morning, I have a received another notice from EA Sports on the status of NBA Live 365:

Hello Everyone,


In our communication to all of you before the launch of NBA LIVE 09, we said that NBA LIVE 365 would be “Made Fresh Daily.” This will certainly be the case, but I wanted to update everyone on our current status, because there are lots of questions being asked around the community concerning NBA LIVE 365 and when it will officially “turn on.” Last night the NBA season officially kicked off. Six teams played, and the NBA LIVE 365 information was received and is ready to be pushed in-game for all of you to enjoy, but in order to accurately reflect what’s happening in the real NBA in NBA LIVE 09, we need the data from EVERY NBA team once they finish their first game.

The last NBA teams will play their first game on Thursday (10/30). To accurately reflect what happened for every team’s first game in NBA LIVE 09, we’re going to turn on NBA LIVE 365 on Friday morning (10/31) for everyone that input a code on the insert inside the NBA LIVE 09 packaging. Once every team plays their first game, you will see your daily changes as promised.

We’re terribly sorry for the inconvenience, but we really wanted to update the community on what our current status is. We thank you for your overwhelming excitement and continued interest for this feature, and we promise that you’ll be pleased with what’s reflected in-game based on the real NBA season. It’ll be a long, enjoyable journey for all of us to enjoy!

With the 2008/2009 NBA season underway, the NBA Live 365 service in NBA Live 09 has also commenced. It will certainly be interesting to see how the DNA updates affect the game, how detailed the roster updates will be and whether the feature lives up to all the hype.

The opening night update (available now) has certainly added new transactions and fixed some lineups but some players are still missing and some lineups are incorrect based on the opening night games and roster listings (notably players who should be on the inactive list). Some of those players are in the Free Agent pool however. That said, if you've subscribed to the NBA Live 365 service - which is free for anyone who buys the game new - I'd definitely recommend grabbing one of these early season updates before starting a Dynasty.

The 2008/2009 NBA season tips off today with three games beginning with the defending champion Boston Celtics hosting their second round opponent in the 2008 Playoffs, the Cleveland Cavaliers, at 8:00 PM ET. The game is the first in an opening night doubleheader on TNT with their Finals opponent, the Los Angeles Lakers, taking on the Portland Trailblazers starting 10:30 PM ET. The Chicago Bulls will also Central Division rival the Milwaukee Bucks in a game beginning at 8:30 PM ET on WGN and FSN Wisconsin.

IGN have posted a review of the Playstation Portable version of NBA Live 09. The game scored 6.1/10 and similar to the IGN's Playstation 2 review, glitches and a lack of defense are the main complaints in the PSP version. You can check out the entire review here.

We have added a couple of new NBA Live 09 sections to the NLSC Forum: a Dynasty section for all Dynasty related topics and a Resources section where you can share sliders and rosters as well as post guides, hints and strategies.

Although we are remaining an NBA Live website, with the interest generated by the PC version of NBA 2K9 we have also expanded our off-topic sections with four seperate 2K Series boards. In addition to the general discussion section, we also have sections for Association Stories, Patching Help & Requests and Patch Releases & Previews. NBA Live fans may rest assured we will continue to provide NBA Live patches and coverage as we've always done but we are pleased to provide some extra facilities for 2K fans as well.

With all three NBA titles released and the 2008/2009 NBA season drawing nearer, IGN has posted a list of ten things they'd like to see in future NBA video games. A couple (namely fights and unsportsmanlike technicals) are unlikely to ever happen due to the image conscious nature of the NBA but a few of the items are staples of our own Wishlists and are certainly appealing. I've completed the conversion of my NBA Live 07 roster update for use with NBA Live 06 and posted it as a beta in the NBA Live PC section of the Forum. More details here, download the beta rosters here.

Please note that this beta DOES NOT include any art. This release (v0.1) is basically complete but is still a test to ensure the conversion will work without any issues. It can be used with any art updates you've downloaded but please rest assured that a further update will be released complete with art (much like the roster update for 08 and 07) as part of the complete NBA Live PC Project package. Please feel free to report any issues such as crashes or other weird behaviour, anything except missing or outdated art (which once again will be updated in the proper release).

IGN has posted a review of the Playstation 2 version of NBA Live 09, which you can check out here. The review is not particularly flattering as the game scored 5.5/10 with a lack of realism and glitches being the main gripes. I've received the following notice from EA Sports in regards to anticipated downtime on the NBA Live 365 servers:

“Hey guys,

We had an issue with our roster update today that is now being re-pushed because files weren't matching up correctly (which is why you were asked everytime to download LIVE 365). This shouldn't take long, but I just wanted to let you know that they'll be down to correct these issues at around 2AM PDT.

Although NBA Live 09 has been out for a couple of weeks, a new blog by producer Garreth Reeder has been posted over on the official website. The latest entry talks about presentation and offers a bit of a walkthrough of the new Instant Replay features, plus a few other issues including Steve Kerr's continued presence alongside Marv Albert in the game's commentary. The NBA Live 09 Jersey Contest is now underway over at the official NBA Live 09 website. There are two contests to enter this year; the first allows you to create a custom jersey which will appear in next year's NBA Live if your design is selected as the winner and the second allows you to submit a design for the rookie challenge with the winner receiving a trip to All-Star Weekend 2009. I've been told that Rim Rockets currently has two GM positions and 25 Assistant GM positions open in their sim league. The league uses NBA Live 07 to sim and requires active GMs who are willing and able to log in daily. If you're interested, check out their website ASAP for more details on the vacancies.

The free downloadable Oklahoma City Thunder update for the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 version of NBA Live 09 should now be available to gamers worldwide. The update includes the correct team jerseys, logos and court for the Thunder but unfortunately does not update the audio. The team name also appears not to have been updated as it still reads "Oklahoma City Oklahoma City" rather than "Oklahoma City Thunder". Nevertheless, if you don't want to keep playing with the generic black jerseys included by default, I'd recommend that you grab the update.

We're pleased to say that we are now fully operation again! The reason for the downtime is that we have moved to a new server hosted by A Game Network. A huge thank you to Matt and our new hosts for helping us make the move and for providing us with our new hosting solution. We're looking forward to bringing you bigger and better content in the near future, with one of the immediate improvements being that we can once again host our own files, so no more dealing with Filefront!

Everything should be working as normal but if you do come across anything that doesn't look right, please let me know ASAP. One thing to note however, for the meantime the Forum can be accessed through forums.nba-live.com; we will let you know the status of the nbaliveforums.com domain shortly.

Finally, I would like to thank James from the Sports Gaming Network for providing us with hosting for the past four years. While we are looking forward to bigger and better things with our new host, we certainly appreciate his help and support over the years.

We’ve heard that there’s some confusion around NBA LIVE 365. I wanted to let you know that if you buy the game NEW, you’ll have a card in the case with a special code on it. That code is specific to your Gamertag / PSN name and gives you NBA LIVE 365 FREE all season long (starting October 27th). For those who do not purchase NBA LIVE 09 NEW, we’ve made it easy for you to get NBA LIVE 365. On both the XBOX 360 and the PS3, NBA LIVE 365 retails for 9.99. This can be purchased via the XBOX LIVE Marketplace or the Playstation Store. Currently, the price listing is correct on the XBOX LIVE Marketplace, but it’s incorrectly marked 19.99 on the Playstation Store. We’re working to get this corrected as soon as possible, but rest assured, the price is 9.99! We hope you enjoy NBA LIVE 09 made fresh daily all season long!

As you may have seen from the message posted on the site yesterday, we are currently performing some upgrades and maintenance during which time the site and forum were unavailable. We have almost finished the work but regret to say that the Forum will be unavailable for just a little while longer and there might be a few missing pages and errors here and there while we iron out the kinks. Once we're back up to speed, I'll post more information.

We realise the inconvenient timing with NBA Live 09 and NBA 2K9 having just been released but please bear with us, this work will be well worth it once it's complete. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

UPDATE: Everything with the main site including the Downloads section, Wiki and individual NBA Live subsites should be working properly, if you come across anything strange please let me know. I'm told that the Oklahoma City Thunder update is now available for the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 versions of NBA Live 09, however it would appear to only be available to gamers in North America at this time as I'm unable to access the update and some players in Europe have reported the same problem. My advice would be to keep checking the XBL Marketplace and PSN Store, we'll post more info as soon as it becomes available.

Just passing along a message that EA Sports are aware of the issues with NBA Live 365 that were encountered yesterday and that they were the result of server problems. EA Sports are currently working on the problem and expect to have everything up to speed soon.

I didn't have any issues connecting to the NBA Live 365 service last night or this morning so it would seem the issue has been resolved, but if you're still having trouble by all means report it so that we can let EA know about it.

Contrary to my earlier news post, it looks as though NBA Live 09 may already be available in stores around Australia as I've just picked up the Xbox 360 and Playstation 2 version this afternoon. Looked for detailed impressions and a review of the retail version coming soon. Hopefully we'll also be able to use some audio or animation files from the PS2 version in our unofficial PC updates for 08, 07 and 06.

If you live in Australia and are keen to get the game, you might want to give your local stores a ring and see if it's on the shelves already, otherwise it should definitely be available tomorrow. If you live in New Zealand, you may want to do the same.

NBA Live 09 has now been released in North America for the Xbox 360, Playstation 3, Playstation 2, Playstation Portable and Nintendo Wii! Feel free to share your opinions here in the NLSC Forum. Don't forget, if you just want to mention you've got the game, please use our central stickied thread.

Those of us in other regions will have to wait at least a couple of days before we can get our hands on the game. I did check out a couple of my local stores in the hope it might be out early here in Australia but it would appear they're being disappointingly honest this year.

IGN have posted an interview with NBA Live 09 producer Jeremy Tiner, giving us a rundown of what to expect in Dynasty Mode this year. Amongst other things, Jeremy mentions that the NBA Academy drills will be used to develop players this year and reiterates that rookie scouting will also take place in the Academy, while also touching on team direction, free agent negotiations, DNA's role in Dynasty Mode and Dynasty Upgrades. It also confirms that FIBA teams will not be present in Dynasty Mode. For the full scoop, check out the interview here.

As part of the ongoing 2008/2009 NBA season preview over at NBA.com, a season simulation using NBA Live 09 has been posted and you can check out the results here. Thanks to xKrNMBoYx for the heads up.

At a glance, it looks like the simulated stats have been tweaked a bit since the Community Event though some of the results are unexpected to say the least. Simulation results do vary however so it remains to be seen whether the ones posted in this preview will be the norm.

As you'll see in the videos, the Thunder are wearing generic black jerseys. It has been mentioned on the official boards that there will be a free downloadable update upon the game's release which will update Oklahoma City's jerseys and artwork.

A new producer blog by Sean O'Brien has been posted over on the official website, which you can check out here. The latest blog entry talks about NBA Live 365 including the development of the concept and what EA Sports hopes to achieve with it. It also mentions that EA Sports has a five year exclusive deal with Synergy Sports in place to continue the concept in future NBA Live titles.

As the countdown to the release of NBA Live 09 begins, a new section titled the "Fresh Daily Grocery" has been launched over on the official site. The new section contains videos and features related to NBA Live 365 and its promotional tagline, "Made Fresh Daily".
