No Dumb Monday or Beat Jao This Week

It is Dumb Monday, and today you get a dumb excuse for me being lazy despite having more free time to write articles and come up with challenges. Actually, I do not have a good excuse for not writing the article or recording a new challenge attempt. If you want to use this time to go back and attempt older, or last week’s, challenges, I may or may not end up scoring them for the overall leaderboard of Beat Jao.

Click to check out all the Dumb Monday articles and Beat Jao challenges, or reflect on the Tuesday Triple if you’d like. We will see what next week brings before I promise a new challenge or article.

Beat Jao #7: Shut ’em Down

Do you think you can beat me? Each week I am going to challenge the community to do something that I have already done. It could be taking a better screenshot, getting a better play, doing something with a specific player or team, or even make a better mod. I have no plan for this series, but I am going to try and make sure that these challenges shouldn’t take more than a half hour to complete click to read more about this information.

Big thanks to NLSCer franmansr for suggesting this week’s challenge a few weeks ago. He wanted to see how long we could keep a shutout going…well thanks to the techniques of a few I thought we could step it up a little bit. This week’s challenge is to see how long you can shut out the pre-draft uninjured ’13-’14 Miami Heat, Hall of Fame difficulty, Simulation sliders .

I used the Spurs, and only lasted 1:41 before I got Bosh’d. For a full breakdown of the rules, and a look into the future of the series, check out the video below. Remember to submit your scores in this Forum Thread, in the comments of this post, or on the YouTube video.

Wow is a great way to sum up last week’s overtime challenge. Reaperwolverine posted a 20 overtime game, good for 200 points. So much for a close race for #1 overall! Check out the full results and overall leaderboard below by hitting Read More.

Damian Lillard Announced as NBA Live 15′s Cover Athlete

Portland Trail Blazer Damian Lillard has announced via his Instagram that he will be NBA Live 15’s cover athlete. In the announcement video, he shows off a generic Xbox One game case with the game’s cover inside. In the description, he also mentions that he has been playing EA basketball games since the 16-bit days, so it is definitely nice to have an athlete on the cover of an NBA Live game that has played them since nearly the beginning. Lillard has also been involved and featured in many of the previews for both NBA Live 14 and NBA Live 15.

Big thanks to [Ricoy] for letting us know in the NLSC Forum. Feel free to join the discussion in the comments below or in our NBA Live 15 Forum.

UPDATE: Check out the official cover art below!

Dumb Monday: Feeling Forced to Patch

This is Dumb Mondays, starting the workweek off with silly facts or some of my opinions and predictions that you may or may not find interesting. This week I am sharing a dumb thought of mine and will be looking for and responding to your comments throughout the week.

We are only getting closer to NBA 2K15’s release. October 7th will bring many of us primarily PC-based users into the ‘next generation’ of basketball video games and will undoubtedly change the landscape of PC modding for NBA 2K games. I still foresee only two major directions modding and NBA 2K15 can go. Either modding will be possible with some new (or maybe old!) tools, or impossible because of VC being a part of the picture. So with this imminent shift coming to our community I have been feeling a bit forced to clear out my patching bucket list. As I have said many times before, we should only patch if it is fun for ourselves, but lately I have been making an exception to that rule.

Beat Jao #6: Free Basketball

Do you think you can beat me? Each week I am going to challenge the community to do something that I have already done. It could be taking a better screenshot, getting a better play, doing something with a specific player or team, or even make a better mod. I have no plan for this series, but I am going to try and make sure that these challenges shouldn’t take more than a half hour to complete.

Superstitions and sports go hand in hand. I know I am the reason the Celtics won in 2008 because I never watched a Boston field go hit the net, but I’ve noticed a weird happening with the games my wife watches. Pretty much every NBA or NCAA game she sees the end of, real or virtual, will end up going into overtime.

So this week I am challenging you to get as many overtime periods as possible in a single game. Unfortunately I couldn’t get her to watch me film a Beat Jao challenge, so I was only able to get 1 Overtime, so hopefully this should be another easy week for you. No restrictions on settings, teams, or rosters. Just don’t use trainers or cheat. You can view highlights of my attempt, get more details, and learn how to properly say our current leader’s username in the video below. Remember to submit your scores in this Forum Thread, in the comments of this post, or on the YouTube video.

And yes! stockalone1232 is our new overall leader, by 1 point! Congratulations to him and it will be interesting to see if he can hold on to that slim lead for next week. Check out the full leaderboards for last week and overall by hitting Read More.

Dumb Monday: Get Informed and Be Patient, Please

This is Dumb Mondays, starting the workweek off with silly facts or some of my opinions and predictions that you may or may not find interesting. This week I am sharing a dumb pet peeve of mine and will be looking for and responding to your comments throughout the week.

I said it before and I will say it many more times before and after October 7th, it, has, happened! A fully featured PlayStation 4/Xbox One port of NBA 2K15 will be released on PC. Typing that still feels like a lie or some kind of sick rib on the PC community, based entirely on our speculative reasons behind the preceding PC ports. So rather than reflecting on the past to decipher the meaning behind 2K’s decision, I just want to plead with all PC NBA 2K players to keep that same patience I have been preaching all along when it comes to upgrading your computer for NBA 2K15.

Beat Jao #5: One Man Takeover

Do you think you can beat me? Each week I am going to challenge the community to do something that I have already done. It could be taking a better screenshot, getting a better play, doing something with a specific player or team. I have no plan for this series, but I am going to try and make sure that these challenges shouldn’t take more than a half hour to complete.

We are going back to the roots of Beat Jao, well at least in terms of being terrible for those who are lactose intolerant. This week I want you to go out and score as many points with one player in a 2 minute quarter game. No overtime, you must win, and no one else on your team may score any points. So if you get into a late game situation, you must miss those free throws with other players. Difficulty and other settings are up to you.

Apart from PS4 NBA game bundle, which comes with both NFS Underground and PSA World Tour Squash its worth noting that limited time offer on our website thas with 100 three REAL SQUASH RACKET included into package. We’ll take this opportunity to thank EA Sports and our local squash rackets supplier Sports Uncle for providing this signed pieces to 100 lucky gamers.

After a few issues with NBA Live 14 and the PlayStation 4’s recording ‘feature’ (read: headache), I ended up going back to the cheesiest of cheese for PC mods, NBA Jam 2K14: He’s On Fire. In 8 minutes of gameplay I scored 40 points with Steve Francis from the ’02-’03 Rockets. I chose them because there are no restrictions on playing defense, so Yao Ming plus no goaltending was helpful for getting me extra possessions, fast. For all the details on the challenge check the video below, and remember to submit your scores in this Forum Thread, in the comments of this post, or on the YouTube video.

Congratulations to cool1324 who claimed to shut out LeBron James with his MyCAREER player last week. Hit Read More to see the rest of the leaderboard for last week and the overall standings.

Dumb Monday: MyDREAM

This is Dumb Mondays, starting the workweek off with silly facts or some of my opinions and predictions that you may or may not find interesting. This week I am sharing a dumb opinion of mine and will be looking for and responding to your comments throughout the week.

In case you missed it, MyLEAGUE for the next gen versions of NBA 2K15 was detailed this week. I think Steve over at OperationSports summed it up best by calling it Association “on steroids”. Essentially MyLEAGUE is an NBA sandbox. We can customize many aspects to our liking with no VC to spend or objectives to meet other than our own. On top of the customization features we, for the first time, get to change core AI aspects of mode with trades and other logic. And on top of that we get new features like the detailed “injuries 2.0” and gameplans, which will also affect MyGM. But at its core there is that customization. That customization is why I may as well call this mode MyDREAM.

NBA 2K15’s MyLEAGUE Detailed

Franchise modes are the only modes I generally play that aren’t exhibition modes. Seeing the details listed in OperationSports‘ reveal of NBA 2K15’s next-gen league sandbox mode made my mouth drop. We got the return of missing features from NBA 2K14 like create-a-player and local saves, along with brand new sliders and customization options to either help the authenticity of your MyLEAGUE or turn it into a mad house. Difficulty options galore from trades to salary caps to various A.I. settings that aren’t even modable on PC.

The biggest addition has to be the “Injuries 2.0” system, splitting players into 16 parts that can be independently fatigued, injured, and recovered from. Detailed to the point where a slightly injured or worn out player may wear accessories to help an injured body part. Even rookies can have these injuries, and have them scoutable, making the risks of Embiid and Noel something to consider in NBA 2K15.

Best of all, some of these features will transfer to the completely separate MyGM mode. Worst of all, OS stated this is only for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of NBA 2K15. At least there are no VC purchases to be made in this mode. Check out the full details by checking the article on OS. Discuss in the Forums or in the comments below.

Crew Mode Returns for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360

Not last year’s Crew Mode seen on these consoles, but the NBA 2K11 version of Crew Mode will be returning to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of NBA 2K15. Indoors, 5 on 5, playbooks, referees, create a team jerseys and courts. There will also be the 3 on 3 Blacktop version as well, but you can start the full game version of Crew Mode with only 3 players on your team.

What has been very interesting is Ronnie2K and LD2K only stating that this is for “old gen” PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. With the $60 price tag remaining for the PC version on many North American retailers, it remains to be seen what is going on with PC. For certain, it sounds like Crew Mode will not be on PC NBA 2K15.

Testers Needed for AND1/Ball Up Open Run Mod

I keep mentioning that I have been doing a lot of modding this past week, well now I need some help with testing one of the mods I created. Inspired by the way AND1 and Ball Up would choose local basketball players to play in their featured game for that city, I created a custom season schedule that tries to replicate that in NBA 2K14 PC.

Essentially you choose from 8 open run teams to be the user team, do a fantasy draft of the generic players in the roster, then play 3 ‘open run’ games. The game then chooses 8 players from these teams to fill the All Star teams, which serves as the taped games we see from Ball Up nowadays. In the future I will make alternate versions for the 4 season schedules I can mod with different generic players and maybe even some NBA or Streetball players added in as well. Of course the courts and uniforms can be changes as well.

You can find out more details and a partial playthrough of the mod in the video above. Check it out yourself in this Forum Thread, just know you must be signed into the NLSC to access the attached file. Looking forward to hearing your feedback!

Beat Jao #4: You Versus LeBron James

Do you think you can beat me? Each week I am going to challenge the community to do something that I have already done. It could be taking a better screenshot, getting a better play, doing something with a specific player or team, or even make a better mod. I have no plan for this series, but I am going to try and make sure that these challenges shouldn’t take more than a half hour to complete.

With the NBA 2K15 hype train about to leave the station I figured we should include NBA 2K14’s cover athelete in a challenge. I want you to beat LeBron James in a 1 on 1 game to 21 in Blacktop mode. The twist on this challenge is right there in the wording, I want you to beat LeBron, as in your MyCAREER player.

I ended up using my PlayStation 4 MyCAREER player because, well, I actually played that version a little bit this year. I was expecting to need a few tries to beat LBJ 1 on 1, but I was able to beat him on the first try with my slow 7’2″ center. To Beat Jao this week, you need to use your MyCAREER player and defeat LeBron James by more than 3 points (my score was 21-18). For all the details on the challenge check the video below, and remember to submit your scores in this Forum Thread, in the comments of this post, or on the YouTube video.

Somehow stockalone1232, Bieberkinz, ClLUTClH, and cool1324 were able to win 0 games in an Association season last week, I honestly did not think that would be possible. You can check out last week’s standings and overall leaderboard by hitting read more.

Dumb Mondays: My Modding Now Versus 2007

This is Dumb Mondays, starting the workweek off with silly facts or some of my opinions and predictions that you may or may not find interesting. This week I am sharing a dumb something of mine and will be looking for and responding to your comments throughout the week.

One more week. Not even one more week, days and hours can measure the time between me typing this and the first substantial information drop on NBA 2K15 (and maybe even NBA Live 15 if they keep dueling). Believe me when I say that NBA Live 15’s ball looks amazing, but the endless speculation during this time of year is just that, endless. So this week I finally got to play in my sandbox that is NBA 2K14 and brought along my still shiny new toy RED MC. I put my head down and created. It was fun, but I realized halfway through my project that I was doing something very similar to what I did with NBA Live 07, but this time it look a lot less time.

NBA 2K Basic Uniform Creation Package & Tutorial

I am pretty terrible at anything to do with textures and one of my bigger projects for the summer required me to create uniforms quickly and easily for my street mods. So rather than beg bigh0rt to make new street apparel for me, I learned enough to make a template package that I wanted to share with the community.

The package should include enough files so anyone can start making uniforms, at any resolution, and have them come out at a decent quality. You do need to be somewhat familiar with GIMP or Photoshop, but some experimentation and maybe a couple of Google searches should be able to get most people up to speed.

The package includes; generic ‘green’ normal map textures that can be used on any uniform; seamless/tileable mesh and other textures for jerseys, shorts, and t-shirts; basic vector linework for home NBA uniforms, shorts, casual shorts, and t-shirts; and a quick palette for create-a-team recolorable uniforms and layer masks. I made a quick, rambling, tutorial for this which you can view below.

You can download the package in the NLSC Downloads Database, as well as the Full Set of 90 uniform sets I created and their DDS files. Everything is being created for use around the next version of Blacktop Revitalization. I hope this helps with beginners getting into uniform patching, enjoy!
