Now that NBA 2K14 has been released on PC, we can all begin figuring out what work that went into last year’s game can be used in the new one. Thankfully, it seems that mostly everything art-wise created for NBA 2K13 will work in NBA 2K14 on PC. This means cyberfaces, uniforms, courts, stadiums, and other files work directly in NBA 2K14 without any complicated conversion process!
We’ve come to another Friday here at the NLSC, which means it’s time for another edition of The Friday Five! In case this is your first time checking out The Friday Five and you’re wondering what it’s all about, this is a feature that I post every Friday in which I give my thoughts on a topic that’s related to basketball video games, the real NBA or another area of interest to our community, either as a list of five items or in the form of a Top 5 countdown.
NBA 2K13 modding is slowing down somewhat as we anticipate the release of NBA 2K14 on October 1st. As we prepare to mod a brand new game, as well as continue making updates for other recent NBA 2K titles and the last few PC releases of NBA Live, there are some aspects of our modding community and culture that I feel we need to examine and in some cases, consider making a few changes. This week, I’m offering five thoughts on modding culture here at the NLSC and looking at some ways that we can make our talented modding community even better.

The latest release features updated dornas for the Philadelphia 76ers, a fix for the Portland Trail Blazers’ road jersey, a shorts and colour fix for the Charlotte Hornets’ alternate jersey and a couple of optional add-ons in the form of a new version of the NBA on NBC scoreboard and Playoff court updates.

Over the last six months I have learned a lot in regards to NBA 2K’s arena files and how to customize them to my liking. The latest discoveries included lightmaps and custom crowd positions, as well as removing the extra people that surround each NBA court. With nearly two weeks left before NBA 2K14 is released on PC, I am happy to announce the release of my final mod for NBA 2K13 PC, Midnight Ballers.
The mod contains 33 one-texture courts based around R4zoR‘s floor file, along with an updated wooden EBC Rucker Park created by the man himself. bedwardsroy19 has allowed me to use his fantastic post-draft PS3 roster, and Tha King supplied updated versions of the Suns and Pelicans uniforms for me to modify. I also took the extra step and updated the old Community Ballahz mod from earlier in the year, which replaces the NBA players with terrible generic players you might notice around your local courts. You can check out a full review of the mod below.
I hope you all have had as much fun as I have customizing NBA 2K13 to our liking, it truly has been the most customizable PC basketball game to date, and hopefully 2K14 will be even more flexible. You can check out this fun mod by getting it in the NLSC Downloads Database, and be sure to check out my Forum Thread for what is coming in NBA 2K14. Enjoy!

The latest release also adds the 1990 LSU Tigers to the selection of classic teams.

Along with the release of the 2013-2014 Rosters for NBA Street Vol. 2 (only the rosters, no art updates yet), I have compiled a resources thread in the Forum for all releases, tools and tutorials for playing and modding NBA Street Vol. 2 on the Dolphin Emulator. We are still early in the overall progress of the HD Remake mod, but I feel the combination of finished rosters and tutorials showing step-by-step on how to create and share texture mods for the game should speed things up a bit.
