Da Czar has posted the next video in his NBA 2K12 Play of the Day series, this time spotlighting the Washington Wizards.
The following is a write-up by fjccommish, who last week talked about some of the pitfalls gamers encounter when trying to get early copies of a game. fjccommish has spent some time with NBA 2K12 and contributed these initial impressions of the game to be published in The Soapbox.
Here are some initial impressions of NBA 2K12. This impressions discussion won’t go into detail of all the modes or the whole game. It’s not intended as a complete review.
The wait is finally over! NBA 2K12 is out today in North America on PC, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, PlayStation Portable, Wii and Xbox 360. Several gamers have already picked up their copy thanks to midnight releases, so no doubt we can expect an influx of impressions, reviews and user videos in the near future. Unfortunately for me it seems Aussie stores are adhering to the street date, so I won’t get my hands on the game until this Friday. However, I’m sure other members of the NLSC Team will be posting their impressions in the meantime.
With the game out, I’d like to invite everyone to join in discussion in the NBA 2K12 section of the NLSC Forum. If you’d just like to declare that you’ve picked up your copy, you may do so in this thread. To post quick thoughts on the game or post a question for folks who have the game, please use this thread. For anything and everything else, by all means feel free to create new threads as appropriate. If you’ve got any content you’d like to share, be it a review for The Soapbox or perhaps a video, please drop us a line.
As we prepare for a new “season” of modding with NBA 2K12’s impending release, we have expanded our Downloads section to include categories for NBA 2K12. To start things off, you can find the official game manuals released by 2K Sports here.
For those who are unaware, our new Downloads section allows user uploads for anyone who has an active Forum account, which means we can provide 100% free file hosting to the community along with a listing in our database. Files will not be deleted after any period of inactivity, so you don’t have to worry about anything going missing as time goes by. Whether you’re planning on making updates for NBA 2K12 or still updating an older basketball game, all submissions are most welcome. We hope that you enjoy the facilities of our Downloads section and find them easy to use, if you do run into any issues or need hosting for a file larger than 100 MB, please drop me a line.
In preparation for NBA 2K12’s release, we’ve expanded the NBA 2K12 section of the NLSC Forum to include our standard subsections for the modding community: Patching Help & Requests, Releases & Previews, Total Conversions and Tutorials. All other topics of discussion belong in the main NBA 2K12 section. We’ve also moved our NBA 2K11 section to the Previous Games category, retaining all of its subsections.
We’ve also made a small change to user profiles to reflect our new focus on basketball video games and not just NBA Live. The “Favourite NBA Live(s)” field is now “Favourite Basketball Video Games”, so for all those who like to list that kind of info in their Forum profile, you may now want to update it accordingly.
IGN have posted the first video and written reviews of NBA 2K12, awarding it a score of 9.5 out of 10. The video review asserts that NBA 2K12 is “better in every single way”, while the written review touts the improvements to defensive AI, player models and My Player along with the addition of NBA’s Greatest.
NBA 2K12 is coming to the iPod Touch, iPhone, and iPad on Tuesday for $4.99 on the iPod/iPhone and $9.99 for the iPad.
The game features “classic” controls with manual movement, shoot, and pass buttons, or a one finger control scheme that has you tapping on teammates to pass to, tapping on your player to do moves, and holding down on your player to shoot. It contains a Play Now, Season, Playoffs, Practice, and Situation mode, as well as NBA 2K11’s Jordan Challenge mode.
The Soapbox is a feature where NLSC community members can let their voices be heard on a range of topics related to basketball and basketball video games through feature articles here on the main site. Today’s guest contributor is fjccommish.
It’s the Commish up on the Soapbox. The subject is buying NBA 2K12 early through eBay and Craigslist. They say a sucker is born every minute, but the Commish isn’t one of them.
People are spending $100, $200 or more to get a copy of the game early. It’s bad enough they can’t wait until Tuesday, but some of them are spending that kind of cash for a game that won’t ship until the release date, if ever.
The newest Developer Insight for NBA 2K12 has been released and it focuses on the new Online Association.
To combat the issues of online leagues from last year, there is a new flex schedule system in place which simulates the game time 3 days for every 1 real life day. You have the option to play against the CPU if your opponent doesn’t show up for their game, and if neither of you play, the game gets simulated instead of hanging up the entire Association for everyone. There are trade protests, a new off-season period, and different sizes and lengths of seasons you can customize.
The full NBA 2K12 manual has been released by 2K and it contains a bunch of new information. Included with the controls and credits, it lists off details on the online Association mode, HP Media Zone which allows for YouTube & Facebook uploads and twitter integration, 3D settings, alternate control schemes for controllers, and the Director’s Cut Replay feature.
Although NBA 2K12 won’t hit store shelves until next week, quite a few people have already got their hands on the game and have been providing us with a glimpse of rosters, ratings, menus, gameplay and more through videos posted on YouTube.
While we will highlight any videos of great significance here in the news, you can check out all the videos as they’re uploaded, found and posted in the NBA 2K12 section of the NLSC Forum. Right now you’ll find several videos containing raw footage of gameplay, My Player creation, menus for NBA’s Greatest and Association Mode, jumpshot styles, dunk packages and even the game’s intro. Check them out and be sure to post your thoughts on what you see. If you’ve already got the game and would like to submit any videos or impressions, please let us know.
The delayed Controls Trailer for NBA 2K12 has finally been uploaded by 2K Sports.
This should help with the last 6 days of the demo leading into the game’s release on October 4th. Be sure to check out the Controls Insight from last week and discuss in the Forum. Thanks to Forum user Bliss for the heads up.
The last bunch of Developer Insights have begun rolling out now that we are less then a week away from NBA 2K12’s release. Today’s Insight covers the game’s Presentation.
The Insight covered the new camera angles and features, stat overlays, and hotspots. Tomorrow we get our first insight covering anything to do with the online modes with Online Association. Until then, comment and discuss in the Forum.
