This is Dumb Mondays, tipping off the workweek with silly facts, opinions, or predictions that you may or may not find interesting. This is JaoSming’s feature, but he’s a little short on time and availability at the moment, so I’m filling in for him.
If you’re a regular listener of the NLSC Podcast – and you absolutely should be! – then you’ve probably heard me complain on multiple occasions about the scripted approach to MyCAREER in NBA 2K14 on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. That’s just a matter of personal taste, but I do have another gripe that I’m sure quite a few people will agree with. In short, the grading logic in MyCAREER could stand to be tweaked, as it seems to be geared more towards punishing mistakes than rewarding good play.
And frankly, it’s making a filthy hypocrite out of me.
Do you think you can beat me? Each week I am going to challenge the community to do something that I have already done. It could be taking a better screenshot, getting a better play, doing something with a specific player or team, or even make a better mod. I have no plan for this series, but I am going to try and make sure that these challenges shouldn’t take more than a half hour to complete.
With the NBA 2K15 hype train about to leave the station I figured we should include NBA 2K14’s cover athelete in a challenge. I want you to beat LeBron James in a 1 on 1 game to 21 in Blacktop mode. The twist on this challenge is right there in the wording, I want you to beat LeBron, as in your MyCAREER player.
I ended up using my PlayStation 4 MyCAREER player because, well, I actually played that version a little bit this year. I was expecting to need a few tries to beat LBJ 1 on 1, but I was able to beat him on the first try with my slow 7’2″ center. To Beat Jao this week, you need to use your MyCAREER player and defeat LeBron James by more than 3 points (my score was 21-18). For all the details on the challenge check the video below, and remember to submit your scores in this Forum Thread, in the comments of this post, or on the YouTube video.
Somehow stockalone1232, Bieberkinz, ClLUTClH, and cool1324 were able to win 0 games in an Association season last week, I honestly did not think that would be possible. You can check out last week’s standings and overall leaderboard by hitting read more.

Welcome to this week’s edition of The Friday Five! This is a feature that I post every Friday in which I give my thoughts on a topic that’s related to basketball video games, the real NBA or another area of interest to our community, either as a list of five items or in the form of a Top 5 countdown.
After offering up a few opinions on the real NBA in last week’s edition of the Friday Five, this week I’m back to talking about basketball video games. Being a basketball gamer that prefers to see a healthy amount of realism in the annual titles, I thought I’d reflect on some of the non-sim elements that have found their way into sim basketball games over the years.
For the sim-oriented gamer, these elements can range from pet peeves and minor irritations to major distractions and issues that can severely affect one’s enjoyment of a game. However, as you’ll find out, at least one of the items on this list isn’t such an unwelcome idea. Without any further ado, here are 5 Non-Sim Elements in Sim Basketball Games.
