NBA JAM: On Fire Edition – Holiday Sizzle Trailer

EA Sports have released a new Holiday Sizzle trailer for NBA Jam: On Fire Edition, in anticipation of the 2011/2012 season tipping off on Christmas Day. The trailer highlights the key features of the game including unlockables, legendary NBA players, the Online Arena and Road Trip. Naturally, it also features a couple of clips of Santa’s Slammers, hooping it up against their fellow holiday unlockable team, The Gobblers.

Check out the trailer below and don’t forget you can pick up NBA Jam: On Fire Edition for 1200 Microsoft Points through Xbox Live or $15 through the PlayStation Network. Also be sure to check out my review of the game here and our chat with producer Cody Sawatsky here. Finally, the game is also set up to receive roster updates at some point, though EA Sports have yet to confirm when they are coming. As soon as we have more details on that, we’ll be sure to post them.

NBA Jam: On Fire Edition Sixth Best XBLA Game of 2011 (Planet Xbox 360)

Planet Xbox 360’s Robert Workman has posted his Top 20 Xbox Live Arcade games for 2011, with NBA Jam: On Fire Edition coming in at sixth. Of the game, he said:

I will be honest, I loved NBA Jam when it came out last year. But On Fire Edition addresses many of the criticisms of that game, with a lower price point, improved gameplay mechanics, more features and online play. Plus, Honey Badgers and Isaac from Dead Space make appearances. Gotta love that.

Check out the complete Top 20 here. You can pick up NBA Jam: On Fire Edition for 1200 Microsoft Points on Xbox Live or for $15 on the PlayStation Network.

New NBA Jam: On Fire Edition Team: Santa’s Slammers

Another holiday themed team is now available in NBA Jam: On Fire Edition. With Christmas only a week away, you can get into the festive spirit by hooping it up with Santa’s Slammers, who are now automatically unlocked in the JAM Store. You can check out a screenshot of Santa throwing it down here in our gallery and pick up NBA Jam: On Fire Edition for 1200 Microsoft Points on Xbox Live or $15 on the PlayStation Network. Be sure to check out my review as well as our Producer Q&A if you haven’t already.

With the 2012 NBA season right around the corner, we should also be seeing some roster updates for NBA Jam: On Fire Edition in the near future. EA Sports hasn’t posted any info on when the updates will be coming but everything is in place so I’d expect the new rosters to be available at some point after the season tips off.

New CBA Ratified, Big Moves Already Reported

The NBA’s owners and players have approved the new labor deal, officially bringing an end to the NBA lockout. Free agency will begin tomorrow with several players having reportedly already agreed in principle to deals with new teams. In huge news, the Los Angeles Lakers were reportedly set to acquire Chris Paul from the New Orleans Hornets in a deal that would also include the Houston Rockets, but the league has since blocked the deal.

Don’t forget you can discuss all the latest moves and rumours in the NBA & Basketball Talk section of the NLSC Forum. Roster updates for NBA 2K12 and NBA Jam: On Fire Edition should also commence shortly, though please note that rookies cannot be added to the rosters until they officially sign with their NBA teams. I also expect to have roster updates for NBA Live 2005 through NBA Live 08 out at some point, though I cannot set a specific date at this time.

Tentative Deal Reached – NBA Games Could Start On Christmas

In case you haven’t heard, the NBA owners and players have reached a tentative deal to end the lockout and begin a 66 game season starting on Christmas. This is great news for all fans of the NBA, but this also means rookies will finally be added to NBA 2K12 once the deal is signed and made official. NBA Jam: On Fire Edition will also be receiving roster updates

We have discussion threads on the lockout here in the NBA section of the Forum and there will be another news posting when we get a date for rookies being officially added in NBA 2K12 along with the NBA Jam: On Fire Edition updates.  In the mean time there are multiple rookie rosters for NBA 2K12 uploaded in our Download database.

NBA Jam: On Fire Edition Thanksgiving Unlockables – The Gobblers

To celebrate Thanksgiving, EA Sports have posted a screenshot of the The Gobblers, an unlockable team in NBA Jam: On Fire Edition. As the name would imply, it’s a team of mascot-like turkeys.

The Gobblers can be purchased in the JAM Store for 5000 JAM Bucks.

NBA Jam: On Fire Edition the top PSN download for October

Shack News has reported that NBA Jam: On Fire Edition was the top download on the PlayStation Network in October, following its release on October 4th. The game currently holds a Metacritic score of 84 for the PlayStation 3 version and 83 for the Xbox 360 version, which was released on October 5th.

If you missed it earlier this week, check out our post-launch Q&A with NBA Jam: On Fire Edition producer Cody Sawatsky, which includes some background info on game modes and unlockables as well as some handy tips and tricks. For those who have yet to play the game and didn’t catch my review last month, you can read it here. Finally, don’t forget you can discuss the game in The Virtual Hardwood section of the NLSC Forum.

NBA Jam: On Fire Edition Post-Launch Q&A

We recently had the opportunity to chat to NBA Jam: On Fire Edition producer Cody Sawatsky about this year’s game. We asked him about the reaction to On Fire Edition so far and his favourite addition, as well as a few questions about Road Trip, the Online Arena and Real AI. Cody also provided us with a few tips for success in NBA Jam: On Fire Edition and we’ve been provided with a few exclusive screens for the occasion. Read on to get the full scoop!

Please note that this Q&A was conducted closer to the release of the game last month but it’s been held up slightly due to a couple of questions we asked requiring clarification and approval before we could post it. Thanks again Cody for chatting with us and for community manager John C for setting everything up!

Andrew’s NBA Jam: On Fire Edition Review (Xbox 360)

Having spent almost two weeks playing NBA Jam: On Fire Edition and posting some preliminary impressions in the NLSC Forum, I’m ready to give my full review of the game. Being a fan of NBA Jam from back in the day, I was intrigued by the idea of Real AI from the very first time it was mentioned in previews, wondering just what impact it could have on the game. I was also keen to see what the game had to offer in terms of its new modes, Road Trip and the Online Arena. With enhanced gameplay, new game modes, more legends, more special teams and players and better online functionality, the question is: does NBA Jam: On Fire Edition live up to the hype?

The short answer…yes. The long answer…well, read on.

NBA Jam: On Fire Edition Video: Boom SHAQA Montage

EA Sports have released a new NBA Jam: On Fire Edition video, in which Shaq reads some custom dunk calls submitted by Jam fans via the official Facebook page.

NBA cancels first two weeks of regular season

Following the latest round of talks between the NBA player’s union and the owners, the league has officially cancelled the first two weeks of the 2011/2012 regular season. Despite meeting for more than seven hours, both sides reportedly remain “very far apart on virtually all issues”, which obviously does not bode well for a speedy resolution to the lockout. Have your say on the lockout and other topics concerning real basketball in the NBA & Basketball Talk section of the NLSC Forum.

As far as the lockout’s impact on virtual basketball, the current state of negotiations would suggest that an official patch to add rookies to NBA 2K12 and the planned roster updates for NBA Jam: On Fire Edition will not be happening anytime soon. Rookie data is present in NBA 2K12’s game files so it’s possible that we’ll be able to add this year’s rookie crop to the game and utilise faces, speech and so forth through our own unofficial updates. The feasibility and exact methods of doing this are still being explored at this time.

NBA Jam: On Fire Edition – Legends Trailer

EA Sports have released another launch trailer for NBA Jam: On Fire Edition, this time highlighting some of the NBA legends that appear in this year’s game.

NBA Jam: On Fire Edition DLC – Time is Money

Downloadable content is also already available for the game in the form of the “Time is Money” pack, which allows you to unlock every legend, mascot, privilege and 12+ special teams along with a bonus 10,000 JAM Bucks to continue unlocking content from the in-game JAM Store.

The DLC costs $4.99 on PSN and 400 Microsoft Points on XBL.
