2016-17 Roster Update
Once again, please note that this roster update was created by Book_Gazette, not me! Please contact him regarding any and all issues, as I cannot and will not provide support for work that isn’t mine. Please also note that I am not currently making any roster updates for NBA Live 08, or any other game. I did however recently re-upload my 2013 season roster updates for archive purposes, as well as offer them up as open source assets for anyone who wants to make future updates. For more information on that, please see this post.
Now that we’re on our new server, and everything is set up and running normally again, I’ve been trying to tie up a few loose ends. To that end, I’ve re-uploaded my roster updates for NBA Live 2005, NBA Live 06, NBA Live 07, and NBA Live 08 PC, which had been stored on a file server that we no longer have access to. The files are now on our new server, and available to download here:
Please note that these are the same 2013 season rosters that I released three years ago. They have not been updated in any way, just re-uploaded for archive purposes. Furthermore, to pre-empt the inevitable question, this is not an announcement of any future NLSC roster updates for any of those games. I’m just fixing some broken links so that our file archives are complete, and my old releases remain available for anyone who wants them.
Having said that, there is another reason that I’m making sure that those old roster updates are still available. If anyone in the community would like to use them as a base to create their own current rosters for those games, please feel free to do so. I know that there are still people interested in updating and playing the last few PC versions of NBA Live, so I’d like to help out by adopting an open source approach with my previous updates. All I ask is that you give me credit somewhere, as I have spent a lot of time on the roster updates for all four games over the years!
As always, a big thank you to everyone who supported my efforts while I was maintaining the NLSC roster updates for those games; I appreciate all the downloads and kind words over the years! Hopefully, you can still get some enjoyment out of them as-is, or put them to use in making brand new updates. If you’d like to learn more about editing rosters, be sure to check out these DBF Guides in the NLSC Wiki.

Welcome to this week’s edition of The Friday Five! The Friday Five is a feature that I post every Friday in which I give my thoughts on a topic that’s related to NBA Live, NBA 2K, and other basketball video games, as well as the real NBA, and other areas of interest to our community. The feature is presented as either a list of five items, or in the form of a Top 5 countdown.
I’ve been playing basketball games for a long time – over twenty years, at least – and as I’ve said quite a few times before, I’m impressed when I reflect upon how far they’ve come. While it’s easy to get frustrated when we don’t see some of the most desired improvements year-to-year, when you start going back a generation or two, you can really see the leaps that basketball games have made. I’ve actually been spending a decent amount of time with older basketball titles as of late, as I continue to produce content for our ongoing 20th Anniversary of NBA Live celebrations.
Playing those older basketball games has been a fun trip down memory lane, but it’s also reminded me of some of the problems that were often present, even in the best titles from yesteryear. Needless to say, with basketball games progressing as much as they have, a few of those issues are even more glaring now. While today’s hoops games are still facing some of the same challenges, such as implementing a maximum difficulty setting that plays smarter instead of cheaper, there are some noteworthy problems that we no longer have to deal with. Let’s consider ourselves lucky that we’re not still battling the following five issues.
