2012 NBA Playoffs underway; join the discussion in the NLSC Forum!

The 2012 NBA Playoffs are officially underway as the postseason has tipped off with four games. Unfortunately it’s been an inauspicious start for Chicago Bulls fans like myself, with Derrick Rose set to miss the rest of the Playoffs after suffering a torn ACL.

We invite you to join in the discussion of the 2012 NBA Playoffs in the NBA & Basketball Talk section of the NLSC Forum, where you’ll find dedicated threads for each of the first round series. Post your predictions, your thoughts on games as you watch them live and much more. NBA Trade Deadline Passes With Several Deals Made

The NBA trade deadline came and went at 3 PM today, but not before several players changed places. Nene, JaVale McGee, Nick Young, Gerald Wallace, Derek Fisher, Ramon Sessions, Stephen Jackson, Richard Jefferson, Marcus Camby and Leandro Barbosa were among the players dealt at the deadline, following the trade that saw Andrew Bogut and Monta Ellis swap places earlier in the week. Dwight Howard meanwhile opted in to the final year of his contract, putting an end to the speculation that he would be traded, at least until the offseason.

2012 NBA All-Star Weekend Concludes

The 2012 NBA All-Star Weekend has come to a close, capped off by an exciting 152-149 victory by the West in the 61st annual All-Star Game. Kevin Durant of the Oklahoma City Thunder took home MVP honours for the first time in his career, finishing with a team high 36 points to go along with seven rebounds and three assists. Kobe Bryant passed Michael Jordan to become the all-time scoring leader in All-Star history, while Dwyane Wade became the third player to record a triple double in the game.

Quickly recapping the rest of the Weekend, Team Chuck won the Rising Stars Challenge, Team New York won the Shooting Stars event, Tony Parker was victorious in the Skills Challenge, Kevin Love eked out the win in the Three Point Contest and Jeremy Evans captured the Slam Dunk contest crown. New CBA Ratified, Big Moves Already Reported

The NBA’s owners and players have approved the new labor deal, officially bringing an end to the NBA lockout. Free agency will begin tomorrow with several players having reportedly already agreed in principle to deals with new teams. In huge news, the Los Angeles Lakers were reportedly set to acquire Chris Paul from the New Orleans Hornets in a deal that would also include the Houston Rockets, but the league has since blocked the deal.

Don’t forget you can discuss all the latest moves and rumours in the NBA & Basketball Talk section of the NLSC Forum. Roster updates for NBA 2K12 and NBA Jam: On Fire Edition should also commence shortly, though please note that rookies cannot be added to the rosters until they officially sign with their NBA teams. I also expect to have roster updates for NBA Live 2005 through NBA Live 08 out at some point, though I cannot set a specific date at this time.

Tentative Deal Reached – NBA Games Could Start On Christmas

In case you haven’t heard, the NBA owners and players have reached a tentative deal to end the lockout and begin a 66 game season starting on Christmas. This is great news for all fans of the NBA, but this also means rookies will finally be added to NBA 2K12 once the deal is signed and made official. NBA Jam: On Fire Edition will also be receiving roster updates

We have discussion threads on the lockout here in the NBA section of the Forum and there will be another news posting when we get a date for rookies being officially added in NBA 2K12 along with the NBA Jam: On Fire Edition updates.  In the mean time there are multiple rookie rosters for NBA 2K12 uploaded in our Download database.

Players reject deal, 2012 NBA season in jeopardy

Players have rejected the league’s “take it or leave it” offer that was presented last week and will now move ahead with dissolving the union, which will allow them to file an antitrust suit against the NBA. While the move is intended to give the players more leverage, it has also placed the 2011-2012 season in serious doubt.

This obviously means that the planned official roster updates for NBA 2K12 and NBA Jam: On Fire Edition will not be happening anytime soon and we can expect to see more games cancelled in the near future. What’s your take on the situation? What do you make of the offer that was on the table? Add your thoughts in the comments below and join in the discussion here in the NBA & Basketball Talk section of the NLSC Forum.

NBA cancels first two weeks of regular season

Following the latest round of talks between the NBA player’s union and the owners, the league has officially cancelled the first two weeks of the 2011/2012 regular season. Despite meeting for more than seven hours, both sides reportedly remain “very far apart on virtually all issues”, which obviously does not bode well for a speedy resolution to the lockout. Have your say on the lockout and other topics concerning real basketball in the NBA & Basketball Talk section of the NLSC Forum.

As far as the lockout’s impact on virtual basketball, the current state of negotiations would suggest that an official patch to add rookies to NBA 2K12 and the planned roster updates for NBA Jam: On Fire Edition will not be happening anytime soon. Rookie data is present in NBA 2K12’s game files so it’s possible that we’ll be able to add this year’s rookie crop to the game and utilise faces, speech and so forth through our own unofficial updates. The feasibility and exact methods of doing this are still being explored at this time.
