Update on this week’s NLSC Podcast

We’re a little late in posting this week’s episode of the NLSC Podcast, but you can expect it to be out within the next day or so. The delay has come about as a result of us sorting out a few things in regards to something very special we have planned, which we’re hoping to bring you as soon as next week if all goes well. Please stay tuned for that!

Thanks to everyone who’s been tuning in to the NLSC Podcast so far, a lot of you have been listening every week so we hope that you’re enjoying the show! Remember that in addition to listening to the podcast here on the NLSC, you can also subscribe to us on iTunes and Blubrry. We’re also eager to hear your feedback, so please feel free to leave us your comments on the topics we discuss and the show in general.

NLSC Podcast on iTunes & Blubrry; Update on Next Episode

In case you missed the update on our Twitter, Facebook or Google+ pages, the weekly NLSC Podcast is now available through iTunes and is also listed on Blubrry, so be sure to subscribe! You can also continue to stream or download each episode right here on the NLSC and check out a complete listing of all our episodes here in our Wiki.

Quite a lot of you are listening to the podcast, so we thank you for your support! We’re definitely interested to hear your feedback on the show though, so in addition to responding to any of our comments on the subjects we discuss, we’d also like to know how you feel about the length of the episodes, the range of topics we discuss, whether you’re bothered by occasional profanity or anything else we can take on board to make the NLSC Podcast enjoyable to listen to.

We’ll also be recording a new episode within the next couple of days and we’re interested in your thoughts on how future NBA Live and NBA 2K games could improve as far as enhancing the Dynasty, Association and MyCAREER experience, especially when it comes to our story threads. We invite you to have your say here in the pre-podcast discussion!

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year everyone, and welcome to 2013! I hope that you all had a fun and safe New Year’s Eve and are looking forward to bigger and better things this year. As I mentioned in my New Year’s Eve post, that’s certainly what we’re aiming for here at the NLSC with more mods, more tutorials and resources, more podcasts, more video content and other regular features that we hope you will all enjoy. Once again, I’ll also be getting new rosters for NBA Live 2005-08 out for those of you still playing those games, for more info on how you can help me with that please see this thread.

That will all be coming your way very soon, so keep it locked here. Thanks once again for all of your support, be sure to stay with us throughout 2013 for your fix of basketball video game coverage!

New Year’s Eve 2012

Though it only feels like yesterday since I was posting a New Year’s Eve message, somehow we find ourselves at the end of another year. It’s been another good year here at the NLSC as our modding community for NBA 2K continued to grow, more and more contributors began making use of our upload facilities and we finally got our podcast off the ground. Though NBA Live 13 was ultimately cancelled, we had some interaction with the developers in our Forum and will hopefully be able to chat to them again in the not too distant future. The game that did come out, NBA 2K13, was quite well received by most and our community has been modding it enthusiastically, as we have more than half as many files for NBA 2K13 as we do for NBA 2K12, in a little under three months of the game being out.

As always, a huge thanks to everyone for your continued support of and interest in the NLSC. Once again, we’re looking forward to doing bigger and better things in 2013. We’re intending on bringing you the NLSC Podcast each week, there’ll be more video tutorials and content, and some other regular features that we hope you will enjoy. As I mentioned before, our modding community is still going strong so you’ll also still see plenty of new files being posted and I’m hoping to have the current rosters for NBA Live 2005, NBA Live 06, NBA Live 07 and NBA Live 08 out as soon as I possibly can sometime early in the new year.

On behalf of the NLSC Team, thanks again for sticking with us through another year. If you have some big New Year’s Eve celebrations planned, have fun but please be responsible. Stay safe, don’t drink and drive, and as Lutz once cautioned us:

Remember the safest order of things on New Year’s Eve: 1. Fireworks, 2. Drink, and not vice versa!

See you in 2013!

Merry Christmas from the NLSC!

On behalf of the entire NLSC Team, I’d like to wish a very Merry Christmas to all those who celebrate it, and a happy and safe holiday season to the entire community. I hope you’re enjoying some quality time with family and friends, and if you’re partaking in a little basketball video gaming right now, be sure to check out our Downloads section and the various Releases sections in the Forum for the latest updates from our community.

Just a quick note, if you’re waiting for a particular update to be released or some help with a game or the creation of a mod, please keep in mind that a lot of our members are enjoying a bit of a break for the holiday season, so please be patient. That said, we are going to keep posting file additions and other updates throughout the holiday season, so stay tuned for those. Once again, a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to you all, be safe and responsible as you enjoy your celebrations, and don’t forget to check out the NBA’s Christmas Day games!

Dynasty & Association Story of the Year 2012: And the winner is…

Congratulations to badreligionau, who took home Story of the Year honours for the second straight year with his NBA Live 10 Denver Nuggets Dynasty, The Next Level! The Next Level is one of the longest running story threads we’ve had, now in its fourteenth season and boasting several championships, along with plenty of interesting twists and turns along the way. Be sure to give it a look!

You can check out the full results of this year’s contest here; thanks once again to Martti. for spearheading the initiative! Well done to all of this year’s nominees, whose threads are all definitely worth checking out. If you’ve got a Dynasty, Association or MyPLAYER game that you’d like to chronicle in our Stories section, don’t be shy! See this thread for some handy hints on getting started.

NLSC Email Issues Resolved

We’ve had some major issues with our mail server in the past 24 hours or so, which fortunately should now be resolved. If you’ve tried to email me at andrew@nba-live.com (either directly or via our contact form) or emailed forum@nba-live.com regarding any issues with your NLSC Forum account, chances are your message has been lost, so please re-send your email if you haven’t received a reply as yet.

While any matters involving sensitive information (such as the password for your Forum account) should be handled by email, don’t forget you can also stay in touch with us via our Facebook page, Twitter and Google+. While you’re checking us out on social media, be sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel as well.

Dynasty & Association Story of the Year 2012

It’s that time of year again. Martti. is once again heading up the Dynasty & Association Story of the Year, which is an initiative that’s intended to recognise the standout Dynasty and Association story threads over the past year. You can check out a list of the nominees and a rundown of how the voting works in this thread. Be sure to get your votes in by November 1st!

Last year’s winner was badreligionau‘s Denver Nuggets Dynasty, The Next Level, which is nominated again this year. If you’re a Dynasty, Association or MyCAREER/My Player enthusiast, don’t forget to check out all of the story threads in the Dynasty & Association Stories section as we’ve got some very talented and creative people providing stories for your reading pleasure. If you’d like to start your own story thread, please see this thread for some handy hints.

New Forum Section: Podcast Discussion & More

NLSC Logo - Stitching

We’ve added a new section to our Forum, the NLSC Hub. This section is similar to the old NLSC & Community Noticeboard in that we’ll be posting site announcements there, inviting community announcements (such as league news and vacancies) and using it for discussion of site related issues such as questions about site features and any technical problems that you may encounter.

However, we’ll also be using this new section for discussion of our new Podcast. Individual threads have now been set up for the four episodes that have already been released and a new thread will be created upon the release of each new episode from now on. You can also use the section to discuss our other content such as the NLSC Wiki, the Soapbox initiative and more. We’re hoping that the new section will provide you all with a means of talking about the podcast and helping us to develop new and better content, as well as resolving any issues you’re having. Find out more about the NLSC Hub here.

The NLSC is now on Google+! If you’re using Google+ and would like to add us to your Circle, you can find us here. As with our other social media pages, we’ll be posting our latest news and updates there, so that you can stay informed and keep in touch with us.

Also, don’t forget to Like Us on Facebook and Follow Us on Twitter if you haven’t already. We also have a YouTube channel with a whole bunch of videos for NBA Live, NBA 2K and NBA Jam, so be sure to check it out and subscribe.

Video Tutorial: Uploading to the NLSC Download Database

NLSC Logo - Stitching

In an effort to remove any confusion surrounding the uploading feature of our Downloads section, JaoSming has created an outstanding video tutorial which will guide you through the process of adding your work to the database. The tutorial demonstrates how to upload files, add files that are hosted externally, and manage files that have already been added.

Check out the tutorial below or watch it here over on YouTube if you can’t see the embedded video. As mentioned in this thread, our aim is to provide stable, free hosting to the patching community and avoid great updates being lost due to limited or unreliable hosting services. If you need to host a file over 100 MB or have any further questions, please let us know. We look forward to hosting more fantastic work from our enthusiastic and talented community, as we strive to maintain the most comprehensive collection of downloads for basketball video games on the Internet!

New NBA Live, NBA 2K & NBA Jam Portals Launched

NLSC Logo - Stitching

As you may have seen over the past day or so, we’ve launched new portals for the games we cover in the NBA Live, NBA 2K and NBA Jam series. This has been done to cut down on the size of our menus and better streamline our content.

You can find the portals under the Games menu on the left hand side of the site. Every portal contains links to the content we have available for each game such as downloads, resources in the Wiki and Forum sections, as well as a small sample of the latest news posts and feature articles relating to a particular game.

We hope that you like the changes and that they will make it easier and more efficient to browse the NLSC and find the content that you’re interested in.

New Contact Form; Keep In Touch With Us

NLSC Logo - Stitching

In addition to the Forum’s private messaging and email facilities, you can now use our new contact form to get in touch with members of the NLSC Team. Simply select the person you wish to email from the drop down menu, fill out the form with your name, message and a valid reply address, then hit submit. We’ve also updated our staff listings and about us pages.

Don’t forget that you can also keep in touch with us by liking us on Facebook and following us on Twitter. While you’re at it, please subscribe to our YouTube channel, where we’ll be looking to post several new videos throughout the preview season.

NLSC Forum Rule Amendments: Donations

NLSC Logo - Stitching

Since more and more patchers in the community have donation links and virtual “tip jars” these days, we felt it would be a good idea to amend the Forum rules to regulate the situation. Our hope is that we can avoid things getting out of hand.

In a nutshell, we are allowing the donation links and tip jars, however patchers may not bully or harass people into making a contribution; withholding releases until donations are received will also not be tolerated as it is not in the spirit of our patching community. Similarly, directly charging for updates remains prohibited, as legal issues can arise from this approach. We have also set a few conditions for the placement of donation links in Forum posts and our Downloads section.

For more information, please see the Forum Rules here. We reserve the right to make further amendments to the rules as the situation dictates, but hopefully there will be no issues moving forward. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact myself or one of the other administrators.

Changes to our Downloads section

NLSC Logo - Stitching

We’ve made a couple of changes to our Downloads section, which we hope will make it more user-friendly for everyone. Files no longer need to be approved in most sections, allowing contributors to upload their work and have it immediately available to the public. We hope this will encourage everyone to use our upload facilities and further cut down on the need to use external file hosting services, as we strive to provide the community with free, reliable hosting and thus avoid losing updates as time goes by.

We’ve also added some contributor notes to the top of each section, which contain a few tips and reminders for anyone looking to upload their files. Please drop us a line if you have any questions or issues regarding our Downloads section and a big thanks as always to everyone who has contributed their work so far!
