NLSC Podcast – Episode #15

It’s that time of the week again: a new NLSC Podcast is coming your way, hosted by Leftos, Ben and myself. As always, we talk about the latest basketball video game and NBA news, before moving on to some other areas of interest and even getting a little nostalgic. If you’re looking for a quick overview of this week’s episode, here you go:

  • We open with some chatter that includes the weather and in the process, get a great idea for a new theme park…patent pending.
  • The conversation turns a little dark, so we move on to a recap of the week in news.
  • NBA 2K13 and NBA Jam: On Fire Edition received roster updates last week, the latter prompting a little more discussion than the former.
  • A couple of potentially interesting notes about NBA Live are touched upon very briefly.
  • The Hornets will officially become the Pelicans effective as of next season and we know what their logo will look like. Has it changed our minds about the new name?
  • The reserves for the 2013 All-Star game have been announced. We react and talk about a couple of noteworthy snubs.
  • Leftos has no interest in discussing the Bulls/Pistons game, but I do get to express some enthusiasm for Jimmy Butler’s recent play.
  • Changing things up, we talk about some of our favourite web series, including the returning Nostalgia Critic.
  • Mention of the Critic leads us to reminisce about a few things we’re nostalgic for.

A fair warning, at times the language in this week’s podcast is coarser than usual and not what you’ll see in news posts and feature articles here on the NLSC. It’s something we can tone down (or simply bleep) if it becomes a problem for you, our listeners, so let us know your feelings on that as well as your thoughts on this week’s topics and the show overall, either in the comments below or here in the Forum.

NLSC Podcast – Episode #14

The fourteenth episode of the NLSC Podcast is now online for your listening enjoyment! Leftos, Ben and I are your hosts once again and despite it being a slow news week, we find a few things to talk about including the selections of the All-Star starters, what we’ve been watching recently and a few other odds and ends. If you’re after a quick synopsis:

  • In honour of the Manti Te’o saga, we welcome everyone and their fake girlfriends to this week’s show!
  • It’s been a slow news week, but we give a quick rundown of some stories of note.
  • Leftos has a message for Lance Armstrong.
  • The NBA All-Star starters have been announced. True to form, I momentarily forget who was voted in on the East.
  • We talk a little about fan voting, All-Star games in years gone by and the Rising Stars Challenge.
  • Which reserves do we think should be selected by the coaches for the All-Star game?
  • Some gaming rumours are briefly discussed.
  • Which TV shows have we all been enjoying (or at least watching) as of late?

This week’s episode is actually shorter than recent podcasts as we’ve been taking some feedback on board and are looking to put out a tighter show with a more compressed news segment and fewer “monologues”. We hope you enjoy the latest episode, if you have any constructive feedback about the format and current approach we’re taking, or any thoughts on what we discussed in this week’s show, please feel free to have your say in the comments below or here in the Forum.

NLSC Podcast – Episode #13

The lucky thirteenth episode of the NLSC Podcast is out now for your listening enjoyment. This week, Leftos and I are joined by Ben (aka Arcane), following reports of his resignation that were greatly exaggerated, as we catch up on the week in basketball video gaming news and the latest goings on in the real NBA. A synopsis of this week’s show is as follows:

  • Ben is welcomed back to the NLSC Team after never actually stepping down, so we spend some time getting to know him.
  • NBA 2K13’s All-Star Weekend content is now available as DLC for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 users. We offer a few thoughts on that.
  • We briefly recap a couple of news items from the past week, which include a new official roster for NBA 2K13 and the shutdown of online services for NBA Live 10 and NBA Jam.
  • The Sacramento Kings may be moving to Seattle to become the new Supersonics, tipping off our NBA discussion for the week.
  • The Lakers broke their six game losing streak and we ponder how far they can actually go this season.
  • Rookie of the Year talk prompts us to mention Damian Lillard and of course, Andre Drummond.
  • Dunks and the Dunk Contest are discussed. With no JaoSming around, I rail against throw-ins, at least in the Contest.
  • Leftos tells us about the joys of running from zombies.
  • I manage to remember all our social media addresses in closing the show, a marked improvement from last week.

NLSC Podcast – Episode #12

The NLSC Podcast is back with episode number twelve! Leftos and I are your hosts once again and after a brief catch-up following the holiday season, we get down to discussing the latest news and rumours surrounding NBA Live and NBA 2K, some community news and notes and the latest goings on in the real NBA. A quick overview of Episode #12 is as follows:

  • We’re back! We both had a nice holiday break, we hope you did too.
  • Arcane has stepped down from the NLSC Team and his post as a moderator on the official forums; we thank him for his contributions and wish him well.
  • Leftos provides an update on his latest tools for NBA 2K13 and the Stats Tracker for NBA 2K12.
  • NBA 2K13 received two new rosters last week, opinion is still generally lukewarm at best.
  • EA Sports are ending online support for NBA Live 10 and the 2010 reboot of NBA Jam. We ponder whether it means anything for NBA Live 14 and once again speculate a little on the next game.
  • We move on to this week’s feature discussion, the Royce White saga in Houston.
  • A few other NBA related topics are discussed.
  • I close the show by forgetting our Twitter handle. (Hey, it’s not like I maintain it or anything…)

We’re glad to be back and looking forward to continuing to bring you a new episode each week throughout 2013. You can also continue to discuss the situation with Royce White here in our NBA & Basketball Talk section.

NLSC Podcast – The “Lost” Pilot

Leftos and I have taken a short break from the weekly NLSC Podcast over the holiday season, however new episodes will resume early in the new year. In the meantime, we invite you to check out the “lost” pilot episode that Pdub and I recorded a couple of years ago, in which we interviewed bigball12, who as you may recall was able to get his hands on the unreleased retail version of NBA Elite 11. In addition to getting his thoughts on the cancelled game, we also chat about the first NBA Jam reboot by EA Sports, the future of the NBA Live series as we saw it at the time and NBA 2K11.

This was our first attempt at a podcast and though it took a while to get off the ground after that initial test pilot, we’re enjoying bringing you a weekly podcast discussing basketball video games, the real NBA and more. We hope you’ve been enjoying the episodes, thank you once again to everyone who has tuned in thus far and offered feedback. Click the Play button below to listen to the show, feel free to add your thoughts here in Forum or in the comments below, and check back soon as we pick it up again with Episode #12!

NLSC Podcast – Episode #11

The eleventh episode of the NLSC Podcast has been recorded and is now available for your listening enjoyment! Leftos and I are your hosts and this week, we discuss our recent experiences playing NBA 2K13, the latest happenings in our community and for a change of pace, talk about some of the other games that we’ve been playing this past year. • Certain elements of the commentary and presentation continue to impress us, though we talk about some of the improvements that could be made next year.
  • We provide a roundup of some recent happenings in the community and discuss ways that everyone can be a good citizen and get the most out of their time here.
  • Since news is a little slow this time of the year, we turn our attention to some other games that we’ve been playing, including our picks for Game of the Year.

NLSC Podcast – Episode #10

The tenth episode of the NLSC Podcast is now available for your listening enjoyment! Leftos and I are hosting the show once again this week as we spend some time talking about a multitude of topics including the latest NBA 2K13 news, our recent experiences playing NBA 2K13 and the last week in NBA action. A rundown of this week’s topics is as follows:

  • Another official roster for NBA 2K13 was released, and the PC version actually received it!
  • We offer some impressions on the latest official roster and discuss the necessary evil of overall ratings.
  • NBA 2K13 was named Team Sports Game of the Year at Spike’s Video Game Awards; we give our thoughts.

  • A few recent basketball videos have caught our attention; check them out and listen to our reactions.
  • The Bulls took on the Pistons and Noah had a big game. One of us was a little happier about that than the other.

Click the Play button to listen to the show!

We hope you enjoy this week’s episode! We’ve been able to sort out a couple of problems with the audio, so this week’s episode should sound a lot better and be much easier to listen to. Please feel free to share your thoughts in the comments, as well as in this discussion thread in the NLSC Hub. You can also watch the videos mentioned in the podcast embedded below.

NLSC Podcast – Episode #9

The ninth episode of the NLSC Podcast is out now! Leftos and I are your hosts once again and despite anticipating a shorter episode with fewer topics to discuss, we ended up recording our longest episode to date, as we discussed the latest NBA 2K13 news, the future of the NBA Live series once again and our thoughts on the latest happenings in the real NBA. Topics include:

  • The official patch v1.02 is out for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of NBA 2K13; what is the reaction?
  • What do we think of the laundry list of fixes outlined in the patch notes?
  • We speculate briefly on when the patch might come out for the PC version
  • The latest news from the modding community for both NBA 2K and NBA Live is also discussed
  • A disgruntled former Madden developer has let loose on Twitter, prompting a little discussion
  • The aforementioned Twitter rant also contained a couple of NBA Live tidbits, so we once again discuss the future of the series
  • We discuss the controversy between the Spurs and the league last week, and declare whether we’re on Team Stern or Team Popovich
  • A few other NBA related topics are pondered and commented upon

NLSC Podcast – Episode #8

Episode 8 of the NLSC Podcast is coming your way today! Leftos and I are your hosts again this week, as we discuss a multitude of topics relating to NBA 2K13, our modding community, the future of NBA Live and the current NBA season. Topics include:

  • The Xbox 360 & PlayStation 3 versions of NBA 2K13 have received an official patch, but when will the PC get it?
  • Speaking of official updates for the PC, we still haven’t received the November 17th update. We’re less than pleased about it.
  • We discuss the PC version’s place in the pecking order, while keeping our fingers crossed that it doesn’t get phased out.
  • Our modding community continues to do great work and make good use of our upload facilities.
  • We’re approaching 300 files for NBA 2K13 in our database…can we hit 500 by the end of the year?
  • The topic of the week is realism in modes like Association and Dynasty. How much realism do we want to see? What else needs to be done for more realism?
  • NBA Live comes up in conversation and we talk about how it could bounce back in the coming years. Dynasty Mode improvements are mentioned once or twice.
  • What’s going on in the real NBA this week?
  • Last week’s Question of the Week is discussed and a new one is presented.

NLSC Podcast – Episode #7

After a longer than intended hiatus, the NLSC Podcast is back! This week, Leftos and I are your hosts as we discuss several impressions of NBA 2K13, our thoughts on the cancellation of NBA Live 13 (yes, it’s been a while since the last podcast!), the outstanding work of our modding community and the first few weeks of the 2012/2013 NBA season. • We give a rundown of the best and worst this year’s game has to offer
  • Several features are missing from the PC version, we discuss which omissions bother us the most
  • Bugs are bemoaned before bringing it back to more positive thoughts
  • We react to the cancellation of NBA Live 13 and discuss whether it was the right way to go
  • Will NBA Live return next year, or will they wait for next gen? What should EA do?
  • We ponder whether there’ll be an audience for the game after its recent troubles
  • The NBA season is discussed. How about those Knicks?

Click the Play button to listen to the show!

This week’s episode is a bit longer than usual owing to the fact we’ve been on hiatus for so long, but we hope you’ll enjoy it. We hope to have future episodes out on a regular basis, which means they’ll likely run shorter as we won’t have as much discussion to catch up on. Please feel free to add your thoughts on the latest episode in the comments below as well as this thread in the NLSC Hub, and don’t forget to give us your answer for Question of the Week!

  • The possibility of 2K having hired a new Senior Online Producer, and whether that could lead into a proper online experience
  • Being able to earn 2K13’s Virtual Currency in any mode, and whether that would lead to “cheating” in MyCAREER

  • The second Question of the Week, and it’s a two-fold one!

Just FYI, the podcast was recorded yesterday, before the 2K13 demo announcement and the confirmation of Crew not being in this year. Don’t forget to give us your comments on this week’s episode, as well as your answer to the Question of the Week, in the comment section below, and the Podcast thread in the Forum. Remember, the Question of the Week is your chance to get fame and lots of money! Well, okay, maybe not.

A second podcast, a very special one actually, will be coming out this week, so keep on the look-out. And of course, we’ll be back next week as well with all the news.
