The Friday Five: 5 Best Songs in Basketball Video Games

Welcome to another Friday here at the NLSC and another edition of The Friday Five! If you’re new to the site or simply haven’t come across the Five before, this is a weekly feature that I post on Fridays in which I give my thoughts on a variety of topics that are related to basketball video games, the real NBA or another area of interest to our community, either as a list of five items or in the form of a Top 5 countdown.

We’re back to the world of virtual hoops this week, as I take a look at what I feel are the five best songs in basketball video games. Good soundtracks in basketball titles feature songs that are a good fit with the sport itself, get you hyped to play the game or at the very least are enjoyable to listen to while you’re navigating the menus and setting things up. I don’t exactly fancy myself a music critic or expert but when it comes to basketball games, these songs have stood out to me.

The Friday Five: 5 Ways the NBA Is More Enjoyable Now

We’ve come to another Friday here at the NLSC, so it’s time for a new edition of The Friday Five! For those of you who are unfamiliar with the Five, this is a weekly feature that I post on Fridays, containing my thoughts on a variety of topics that are related to basketball video games, the real NBA or another area of interest to our community, presented as either a list of five items or a Top 5 countdown.

Last week, I threw on my nostalgia goggles and talked about some aspects of the NBA in the 90s that I miss and how I feel they made the league more enjoyable during that era. As I said though, I’m still very much an NBA fan and certainly do enjoy the current product, so this week I’m going in the other direction and taking a look at five ways the league is more enjoyable now.

The Friday Five: 5 Ways the NBA Was More Enjoyable in the 90s

Welcome to another Friday here at the NLSC and a new edition of The Friday Five! For the uninitiated, The Friday Five is a feature that I post every Friday in which I give my thoughts on a topic that’s related to basketball video games, the real NBA or another area of interest to our community, presented as either a list of five items or a Top 5 countdown.

This week, I’m getting nostalgic and playing the cranky “Things were better in my day!” card as I take a look at five ways the NBA was more enjoyable in the 90s. Now, that’s not to say that I don’t enjoy the NBA today because I absolutely do, but these are five things that I miss or feel were done better during the era I grew up watching. Since I’m aiming to compile a list that I feel most fans from that era can agree with, I’ll try to get through the Five without listing “The Chicago Bulls winning championship after championship”. No guarantees.

Being that we are a community of basketball video game enthusiasts, the way in which basketball video games can improve is naturally one of our favourite topics of discussion. While it’s important that we keep posting quality feedback on the games we play and innovative ideas for future titles, there are certain factors that unfortunately stand in the way of certain features being implemented, or at least make it difficult for developers to implement them exactly as envisioned. These are the Top 5 things that I feel are holding back basketball video games and posing a challenge to their developers.

This week’s topic is Forgotten & Overlooked Basketball Games. I’m taking some liberties with those terms as these games aren’t necessarily that obscure and I’m sure that plenty of people do remember them, but they don’t seem to be talked about all that much and they’re games that I feel are worth reflecting upon. So, without any further ado, here are five basketball games that you may or may not remember, but hopefully will enjoy reading about.

A couple of things to keep in mind: this isn’t an unbiased list; these are my five favourite All-Star Weekends, it’s not my intention to be completely objective or provide a “definitive” Top 5. To say that the Internet has had a major impact on video gaming is a grand understatement. One of the ways it has changed gaming is its ability to put developers in direct contact with their customers, giving gamers the opportunity to provide feedback that shapes future releases and aids in post-release support. We basketball gamers have been doing that for some time now, but we don’t always make the best use of the opportunity. These are the things we should avoid doing, the five ways we give bad feedback to basketball video game developers.

Welcome to another edition of The Friday Five! This is a new feature that comes your way every Friday, discussing five items of interest in list or countdown format, with topics covering basketball video games, the real NBA and other subjects that are relevant to our community.

With the NBA’s announcement of the starters for the 2013 NBA All-Star Game in Houston, reactions to the selections naturally raise questions about the concept of fan voting. Some fans don’t see a problem with it, while others don’t think it’s the right approach at all. For my part, I’m still in favour of fans being able to select the starting lineups and as such, here are five arguments in defense of fan voting for the All-Star Game.
