This is Dumb Fact Monday, serving up random facts about basketball video games that you may or may not find interesting.
The uniform selections in our yearly basketball video game releases usually stick with uniforms seen that year in the real NBA. NBA 2K games generally have more retro uniforms from years past, but NBA Live has included some odd uniform choices in its past such as the Original Celtics uniform in older NBA Live games. While NBA Live 14 seems to keep its uniform selection as limited as the offerings seen this season in the NBA, NBA Live 09 and NBA Live 10 included a strange fictional Golden State Warriors uniform that was never worn in the real life NBA.
To be completely honest, this jersey is ugly, but its origin is actually came from a fan contest shortly after the release of NBA Live 08. That may not excuse the choice to have this uniform be the winning choice, but at least we can rest easy knowing it did not actually get used in an NBA game.
Being completely honest, I think our own Pdub‘s entry, seen above, is much better than the winning jersey, but I guess the Clippers were not worthy of such an honor back then. Still, this winning uniform showed up in NBA Live 09 and NBA Live 10, labeled simply as an alternate uniform. If you ever saw it and wondered where it came from, well now you know.
Let me know in the comments if you have ever seen a uniform as ugly as that. I hope you enjoyed reading this week’s Dumb Fact!
My guts tell me these designs are better fit for the Phoenix Suns and not the Warriors.
I guess it’s not an unbiased pick when an NLSC Team Member is involved, but I also much prefer Pdub’s submission. Something cool for the winner to enjoy though and not a bad concept for a contest.
