Dumb Mondays: That’s Not NBA 2K15, You Liar

This is Dumb Mondays, starting the workweek off with silly facts or some of my opinions and predictions that you may or may not find interesting. This week I am sharing a dumb pet peeve of mine and will be looking for and responding to your comments throughout the week.

It, is, TIME. We are officially under 100 days until October 7th, the release date of NBA Live 15 and NBA 2K15. 2K and EA are just beginning their hype train for the Summer. The speculation is already running wild and for the next few months that will only increase as we are drip-fed information about the latest and greatest versions of our annual basketball videogames. We have already seen a few websites take the role of click-bait claiming that the PC version of NBA 2K15 will or will be a next gen port, but a yearly violation is YouTubers mislabeling the current game as the new one.

I’ll go ahead and call out the big dog first, Shady00018, the most talented mix maker right now and he is unfortunately stooping to this level each summer and fall. See that video above? It was uploaded on September 4th, 2013, a month before NBA 2K14 was released. He does this every year, 2K12 as 2K13, 2K11 as 2K12, 2K10 as 2K11. All videos released before the new game came out.

He’s not the only one though, the video above is mufcrlz, a smaller channel but very talented as well. It is just disheartening to see some of my favorite mix makers do this and either hide behind the “Fan Trailer” label or throw the fact that we are seeing the previous year’s game in the description despite advertising the title as the new one.

Now if I am going to nitpick like I am, this is what I consider ‘proper’ labeling for the video. millennium .TCK, used the officially released trailers and insight videos from 2K themselves, re-edited the footage, and released it as a new mashup mix with only NBA 2K13 footage. No lies, no mislabeling, we are seeing actual NBA 2K13 footage in a video with ‘NBA 2K13’ in the title.

I guess it bothers me to see videos like this one from 025bigdog get told in the comments to change the title from NBA 2K11 to NBA 2K12, because it was released after NBA 2K12 was released. Listen, I am a “YouTuber” and my network has sent me all the manipulative stuff you can do to improve SEO (search engine optimization) to get more views. I get it, but I hate it.

It sucks trying to search for an old video I liked and have it get mixed in with falsely advertised videos of the previous year like this. The worst part is these mislabeled videos are usually more popular than normal videos during the year because of all the hype leading into the new game. It’s all a game for more views, which these guys totally deserve, but I just wanted to get this off my chest before we start seeing a lot of “NBA 2K15” mixes being released using NBA 2K14 footage.

Been really really really agitated because of the fake videos that mixmakers post for 2k15 and also idiots who believe that crap.

I must admit, I did something similar with a fan trailer I put together for NBA Live 13. Granted, I mentioned in both the title and description that it was clips from old games, kind of a reflection as we looked towards the relaunch of the series (that ultimately came a year later), but it did still have NBA Live 13 Fan Trailer in the title.

The fake “scoops” that have been reported elsewhere about NBA 2K15 PC are troubling though. It’s one thing to make a fan trailer because you’re hyped for the new game, but deliberately spreading misinformation/blatant lies for hits/views is a shoddy thing to do to your fellow gamers.
