While the game itself is missing many of the hyped and advertised features, the PC community can rest easy knowing the game can still be modified fairly easily. The most used tool, the Mod Tool, is mostly compatible with 2K13’s iff files. It can decompress, import, and export from the files without issue, but does run into issues with Uniform and Cyberface files. Thankfully an alternative to the Mod Tool is able to edit those files properly. You can read more on tool compatibility here.
Vl@d Zola Jr. has been hopping around the Forum providing updates on roster editing. Unfortunately the roster is a bit more encrypted than previous years, providing a major hurdle for hex editing, however Vl@d has figured parts of the roster out allowing him to edit some basic values.
I have been quite busy in the few hours I’ve had the game. I went ahead and created the major patching resource which labels and identifies each subfile in popularly modded files. I also created my first batch of mods which can be found in this Forum thread. So far I’ve released an accurate Celtics court, watermark remover, NBA Live ability icons, updated crowd lighting, and a remover for the instant replay marker.
Be sure to check out the NBA 2K13 Releases Forum for all the community patches available, and if you’ve created something, be sure to add it to our Downloads Database.
Top work, Jon. 🙂
