Bumping

Bumping refers to the action of posting in a thread for the purpose of moving (or "bumping") it to the top of the page, usually to draw attention to a thread that has become active. Generally posts that bump a thread are made by the original author or the most recent poster and do not elaborate further on the original topic.

[edit] Etiquette & Procedure

It is generally considered bad etiquette to bump a thread too soon after the last post as this is considered to be a sign of impatience. This practice can also lead to spamming as a poster continuously makes brief posts in an effort to keep a thread at the top of the board. Similarly, reviving old topics (coloquially known as "grave-digging") is also frowned upon unless it is done to make a meaningful contribution to the original discussion.

[edit] "Bump" Posts

Traditionally, many forums have allowed threads to be bumped by a single post that simply reads "bump". This approach is generally discouraged in the NLSC Forum as it has often lead to spamming, particularly in the Patch Requests section of the forum.
