EA Sports Online Pass
EA Sports Online Pass is a subscription service that allows users to take advantage of online features in EA Sports titles, including NBA Elite. It was set to make its debut in NBA Elite 11 but with the game's cancellation, it will not be utilised by EA's basketball franchise until the release of the next game.

All new copies of EA Sports games include a code that can be entered to redeem a free Online Pass. Upon entering the code and activating a pass, users may take advantage of a title's online features. Codes can only be redeemed once and each EA Sports title requires its own Online Pass to be activated. Once redeemed, an Online Pass code is tied to the user's Xbox 360 gamertag or Playstation 3 persona, thus if their console needs to be replaced they will not need to buy a new subscription as long as they continue to use the same gamertag/persona.
If a game is purchased second hand, an Online Pass may be purchased through the Xbox Live Marketplace or Playstation Store. Seven day trials of the Online Pass are also available.

Online Pass is not required to use any offline features in EA Sports titles. Users will be unable to play online multiplayer modes without an Online Pass nor use any downloadable content in online modes, but will still be able to acquire downloadable content for use in offline play without an Online Pass.
