Posts
Post (plural: posts) is a term that refers to a single message in an online forum. The act of entering a message is referred to as posting. A post may refer to any one message in a forum while a collection of posts beginning with a new top level post and its subsequent replies is referred to as a thread.
[edit] Posting Etiquette
When posting messages in the forum, members are expected to treat each other with respect and good manners, in particularly avoiding flaming (personal attacks and insults directed at other forum members). This should not be confused with enthusiastic or in-depth discussions which are to be encouraged. Flaming may lead to flame wars, a prolonged argument that can send a discussion off-topic.
Aside from civil behaviour and adhering to general forum rules, it is generally considered good etiquette to avoid double posting ie. making two consecutive posts in the same thread before another user has posted a reply. Exceptions include bumping an older topic to revive a discussion with a new perspective or in updating a Dynasty Stories. Double posts may also occur accidentally if the Submit Post button is clicked twice or due to technical difficulties on a web server.
Posting in capital letters is also widely considered bad etiquette as it represents shouting and makes posts difficult to read.
[edit] Post Count
Like most online forums, the NLSC Forum features a visible post count for each user, displaying the number of individual posts they have made. At times this has led to spamming as users have sought to become prominent members through contributing quantity rather than quality. This practice is discouraged as it does not promote good discussion with a poster seeking to inflate their post count resorting to brief, often one or two word posts that contribute little to a threads.
