Headshapes

Headshape is a term used to describe the player and coach head/face models (or the shape files themselves) in NBA Live games following the introduction of 3D graphics in NBA Live 98. Through NBA Live 2001, a selection of fairly generic headshapes was used with each player being assigned the most appropriate model for their face but NBA Live 2003 introduced player-specific headshapes allowing for more realistic looking players and better customisation.

Early headshapes consisted of .o files but have since been replaced by EBO files. With the appropriate tools, patchers can edit these files to create more realistic looking models for original players or more appropriate headshapes for new players. The quality and realism of a player's head model can greatly enhance the appearance of a cyberface and an unsuitable shape file can result in a player's facial features looking quite distorted.
