Midway Games Inc. (also referred to as simply Midway) was an American video game publisher and developer. Their most popular games included the original NBA Jam games and the Mortal Kombat series.

In 1996, Acclaim succeeded in wrestling the NBA Jam trademark away from Midway. Acclaim had previously developed the home console ports of NBA Jam. Midway would go on to release NBA Hangtime, while Acclaim continued to release a series of games under the NBA Jam brand.

In February 2009, Midway filed for bankruptcy. Warner Bros. purchased most of Midway's assets, including Mortal Kombat and their studio in Chicago. This would eventually lead to the creation of NetherRealm Studios, led by Ed Boon. NetherRealm continues to develop the Mortal Kombat series, along with the DC Comics fighting game, Injustice: Gods Among Us.

EA Sports purchased the rights to the NBA Jam franchise in 2010 and has developed two games in the series, NBA Jam and NBA Jam: On Fire Edition.
