NBA's Greatest is a game mode that made its debut in NBA 2K12. It is a follow-up to the Jordan Challenge and provides players the opportunity to recreate a historic game for fifteen NBA legends, complete with authentic broadcast presentation. Winning a game in NBA's Greatest unlocks the respective classic teams for use in other game modes.

Announcement & Overview

The mode was announced on August 3rd 2011, confirming Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Julius Erving as five of the players that will be featured in the mode. On August 18th, the remaining ten legends were confirmed as being Wilt Chamberlain, Patrick Ewing, Karl Malone, Scottie Pippen, Oscar Robertson, Hakeem Olajuwon, Isiah Thomas, Bill Russell, John Stockton and Jerry West. On August 19th, full rosters for the included teams were revealed

Winning an NBA's Greatest game unlocks the two classic teams involved for use in other game modes. The mode also features authentic broadcast presentation, such as 1980s Technicolor and black and white for games from the 1960s. Unlike the Jordan Challenge which rounded out the classic team roster with generic placeholder players, the rosters in NBA's Greatest feature at least eight real players for all included teams. Due to licensing issues, some players (such as Charles Barkley) are not included. NBA 2K12 also features seven bonus classic teams.
