On-Ball Scenario in NBA Live 07

On-Ball Scenarios is a label given to an animation/collision detection technique first used in the PC, Playstation 2 and Xbox versions of NBA Live 07. It is intended to give players a physical presence and ensure that there is some form of interaction when they come in contact with one another. This usually involves a player with the ball interacting with a defender who is attempting to stop the drive, with the offensive player shielding the ball while the defender tries to impede the ballhandler's progress. On-Ball Scenarios are initiated by either the offensive or defensive player and can be ended at any time if one player backs off.

The end result of an on-ball scenario depends on the players involved. Players who are more adept at driving will be able to get past the defender more often, however this will not always be the case. Similarly, tough defenders will be able to stop players from blowing past them with ease most of the time although it is still possible to elude them. When a tough defender meets a skilled offensive player, timing and footwork is paramount on the part of both players as to whether the offensive play is shut down or the defensive player is beaten off the dribble.
