Orange Juice is a nickname for the duo of Pres and Justice Young, as well as a gameplay mechanic in NBA 2K17's MyCAREER mode.

Nickname[edit]

Shortly after forming a friendship on and off the court, Pres and Justice Young are watching old highlights of Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen. Determined to become the NBA's next great duo, they decide that they need a nickname, and Young suggests "Orange Juice", because they "put the squeeze" on opponents. The duo decides that they like the nickname, and begin using it publicly. They also debut a signature handshake/celebration, which involves a squeezing motion.

The Orange Juice nickname proves to be popular, and is often used by fans on social media, and referred to by the commentators. Coach Brubaker seemingly also takes a shine to the nickname, as he uses it while praising Pres and Young during timeouts, if they are playing well.

Dual Player Controls[edit]

Orange Juice activated

Orange Juice also refers to the new dual player controls that are introduced in NBA 2K17's MyCAREER mode. If Pres and Justice Young assist each other on three baskets while they are on the floor together, Orange Juice will be activated. When activated, the user is able to use the D-Pad to send commands to Young to cut, hold the ball, shoot, and so on, or switch control to him entirely.

While Orange Juice is activated, an orange circle will appear at the feet of both Pres and Young, with an orange line stretching between the two circles to emphasise the link between the duo. Orange Juice will be deactivated upon Pres and Young being subbed out of the game, however it can be activated multiple times in the same game.

Origins[edit]

During an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Michael B. Jordan (who portrays Justice Young) revealed that the nickname and signature celebration are based on a secret handshake that he shared with his friends growing up.
