February 4th Official Roster Update for NBA 2K14

Goran Dragic takes on the Bulls in NBA 2K14 PC

A new official roster for NBA 2K14 has come through on all platforms, featuring lineups that have been updated through February 4th, 2014. However, it seems as though the PC update is still missing the Indiana Pacers’ signing of Andrew Bynum, various minor transactions and all of the injury status updates that he Ronnie 2K mentioned in this Tweet. I can confirm that those updates have been made in the latest roster for the PlayStation 4 version of NBA 2K14.

As always, the latest roster will come through automatically as long as your PC, Xbox 360. PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4 or Xbox One is connected to the Internet when you start NBA 2K14. If you’re on PC and would like to apply the latest update manually, check out our offline pack which contains the latest roster and online data files.

The Tuesday Triple: 3 Things NBA Live 14 Needs

NBA Live 14 Paul Pierce Phreak50

This is The Tuesday Triple, where I attempt to break down random topics into three points, and maybe an “and one” if I need it. Similar to the established Friday Five by Andrew, the topics will be related to basketball video games and their communities as a whole.

Since its release, NBA Live 14 has been both deservedly and undeservedly trashed for its gameplay and graphics. While the game is undoubtedly lacking in many areas when compared to NBA 2K14’s next-gen effort, it has provided myself and others with hours of mostly fun gameplay and a strange attraction to keep coming back for more. Even though it can be fun, there are still at least three major areas that need improvement that I can only wish will be included in the mythical yet-to-be-released patch by EA Sports.

February 3rd Official Roster Update for NBA 2K14

Dirk Nowitzki fires away against the Cavaliers in NBA 2K14 PC

New official rosters have come through for NBA 2K14 on all platforms, featuring lineups that have been updated through February 3rd, 2014. Several transactions are still missing in the latest roster however, from players whose 10 days contracts have expired to the Indiana Pacers’ signing of Andrew Bynum, which happened on February 1st.

As always, the new rosters will come through automatically as long as your PC, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4 or Xbox One is connected to the Internet when you start NBA 2K14. I’ve also added the latest roster and online data files to our offline pack, for PC users who wish to update their game manually.

Dumb Fact Monday: Moving Hair

NBA 2K8 Nash

This is Dumb Fact Monday, serving up random facts about basketball video games that you may or may not find interesting.

For the first entry, I’m taking a look at dynamic hair physics in basketball video games. While I was certain this was a recent breakthrough for the genre, I was surprised to find out that I completely missed the first game to feature player hair that wasn’t cemented in place.

February 2nd Official Roster Update for NBA 2K14

Rajon Rondo drives against the Magic in NBA 2K14 PC

New official rosters are now available for NBA 2K14 on all platforms, featuring lineups that have been updated through February 2nd, 2014. Several recent transactions are missing however, including the Indiana Pacers’ signing of Andrew Bynum and the release of various players whose 10 day contracts have expired. A few players’ ratings and injury status have been updated, though.

As always, the new rosters will come through automatically as long as your PC, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4 or Xbox One is connected to the Internet when you fire up NBA 2K14. PC users may alternatively opt to update their game manually by using our offline pack, which contains the latest roster and online data files.

March Madness 2K14 Mod Released

March Madness 2K14 PC Mod

Project leader bigh0rt has released the first full version release of an NCAA mod for NBA 2K14 PC. Titled March Madness 2K14, the v1 release is easily one of the most comprehensive NCAA mods released for an NBA PC game. bigh0rt‘s description sums it up best;

What started as a simple 5-team Demo has evolved into the most in-depth, accurate College Basketball project the NLSC has ever seen! Accurate looks, ratings, styles of play, presentation, overlays; you name it!

No hyperbole needed, bigh0rt and those helping the project have truly delivered with this mod. Featuring 30 NCAA teams (with plans for expansion) complete with accurate uniforms, courts, team gear, coach profiles, playbooks, and even player gear, ratings, and appearances, bigh0rt’s return to PC modding is nothing short of impressive. Best of all, there are two versions of the mod release: a Lite Version that does not overwrite or conflict with the NBA game, and a Full Version that includes a CBS scoreboard, NCAA fight song soundtrack, authentic dornas, and Association mode support.

You can get the mod and additional information in the Release Thread. It is also worth mentioning that behindshadows is also working on his annual college mod as well, which you can check out here.

January 31st Official Roster Update for NBA 2K14

Kevin Durant vs the Nets in NBA 2K14 PC

A new official roster is now available for NBA 2K14 on all platforms, featuring lineups that have been updated through January 31st, 2014. Royal Ivey is still on the Oklahoma City Thunder’s roster despite his 10 day contract expiring but a few players have returned from injury in the latest update, including first time All-Star DeMar DeRozan, DeMarcus Cousins, Kirk Hinrich and Metta World Peace among others.

The latest update will come through automatically as long as your PC, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4 or Xbox One is connected to the Internet when you start NBA 2K14. However, if you’re playing on PC and would like to update your game manually, check out our offline pack which includes the latest roster and online data files.

The Friday Five: 5 Reasons I Want A New Free Throw Shooting Method

Free Throw Shooting in NBA Live 06

Welcome to this week’s edition of The Friday Five! This is a feature that I post every Friday in which I give my thoughts on a topic that’s related to basketball video games, the real NBA or another area of interest to our community, either as a list of five items or in the form of a Top 5 countdown.

In previous Friday Fives, I’ve mentioned that I’m not a big fan of the “hold Shoot” method of shooting free throws that is currently used by both NBA Live and NBA 2K. While I’m still partial to the old T-Meter approach, it’s admittedly outdated and probably a little too old school at this point, so I’d be in favour of both games implementing a new method altogether.

Don’t get me wrong. The current method is serviceable, straightforward and provides the user with enough on-screen feedback to become reasonably proficient from the foul line (at least in NBA 2K). However, it does have its drawbacks and I believe that it’s time for some innovation in this area of the game. So, without any further ado, here are five reasons why I want to see a new method of shooting free throws in NBA Live and NBA 2K.

January 30th Official Roster Update for NBA 2K14

Gerald Green dunks in NBA 2K14 PC

New official rosters have come through for NBA 2K14 on all platforms, featuring lineups that have been updated through January 30th, 2014. Royal Ivey is still on the Oklahoma City Thunder’s roster despite not having his 10 day contract renewed, but it appears as though a few more players have received ratings adjustments.

As always, the new rosters will come through automatically as long as your PC, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4 or Xbox One is connected to the Internet when you start the game. However, PC users may also update their game manually with our offline pack, which contains the latest roster and online data files.
