Latest NBA Live 14 Playoffs Content

As the 2014 NBA Playoffs roll on with the Conference Finals, new content continues to be added to NBA Live 14. New Playoff Performer and Award Winner player cards are still being added to Ultimate Team, including the newly announced All-Rookie team players, sharp shooting San Antonio Spurs guard Danny Green, and ’94 Dikembe Mutombo.

Noteworthy performances are also still being added to LIVE Season’s BIG Moments, with the most recent being LeBron James’ strong performance in the fourth quarter of Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Finals, in which his Miami Heat tied up their series with the Indiana Pacers at a game apiece.

Unfortunately, the rosters for exhibition and Dynasty Mode play still have not been updated for some weeks, though according to this post in the NLSC Forum by NBA Live 14 developer Fernando, once a few technical issues with the update system are sorted out, a new current roster should be coming through.

The Friday Five: 5 Non-Sim Elements in Sim Basketball Games

The Friday Five

Welcome to this week’s edition of The Friday Five! This is a feature that I post every Friday in which I give my thoughts on a topic that’s related to basketball video games, the real NBA or another area of interest to our community, either as a list of five items or in the form of a Top 5 countdown.

After offering up a few opinions on the real NBA in last week’s edition of the Friday Five, this week I’m back to talking about basketball video games. Being a basketball gamer that prefers to see a healthy amount of realism in the annual titles, I thought I’d reflect on some of the non-sim elements that have found their way into sim basketball games over the years.

For the sim-oriented gamer, these elements can range from pet peeves and minor irritations to major distractions and issues that can severely affect one’s enjoyment of a game. However, as you’ll find out, at least one of the items on this list isn’t such an unwelcome idea. Without any further ado, here are 5 Non-Sim Elements in Sim Basketball Games.

NLSC Forum Story Thread Interviews: Axel.

We certainly love our basketball games here at the NLSC, so when it comes to modes like Dynasty, Association, and MyCAREER, some of us like to share the experience with our fellow gamers. In the Basketball Video Game Stories section of the NLSC Forum, several gamers maintain story threads chronicling their adventures and achievements in the virtual NBA. Over the next few weeks, we’ll be running a series of interviews with some of our most prominent storytellers, to get an insight into their experiences and discover why they enjoy maintaining story threads.

In this week’s interview we chat to Axel., whose Houston Rockets Dynasty thread for NBA Live 10 featured some interesting subplots and ultimately garnered an induction into the NBA Live wing of our Story Thread Hall of Fame. Find out who inspired Axel. to begin maintaining a story thread, what he’s enjoyed most about the experience, and his advice for anyone looking to start a story thread of their own.

NLSC Podcast – Episode #79

NLSC Podcast Logo

The 2014 NBA Playoffs roll on, NBA 2K14 has received a new patch, and the latest Draft Lottery has inspired more talk of conspiracies. Join Arcane and I as we discuss all that and more in Episode #79 of the NLSC Podcast!

  • There isn’t much in the way of NBA Live news at the moment, though voting for the NBA Live 14 Gamer of the Year has reached the second round. New challenges also continue to be added to Ultimate Team.
  • The fifth patch is out now for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of NBA 2K14. We have to admit, it’s more substantial than we expected.
  • 11 new Euroleague Teams will be added in NBA 2K15. Do we think they’ll get their own mode, and/or integration with the current game modes?
  • In some housekeeping notes, we remind everyone that we’re looking for knowledgeable basketball gamers to help us expand our Wiki resources.
  • JaoSming’s NBA Street mod for NBA 2K14 PC has been released, and we encourage you to check it out!
  • It’s down to the final four as the 2014 NBA Playoffs have reached the Conference Finals. We talk about the first couple of games, and give our predictions for the rest of the series.
  • The Cleveland Cavaliers have won the Draft Lottery for the third time in four years. Are we buying into the conspiracy talk?
  • Kevin Love’s days in Minnesota appear to be numbered. Will we be seeing a repeat of the “Dwightmare”, and will we all be calling it “Lovesickness”?
  • The Charlotte Hornets are officially back, with their new logos and the original team’s history and records. We have to say, it’s been a lot better handled than the Melbourne Tigers’ re-branding.

As always, we welcome your thoughts on this week’s show, as well as any of the topics that we discussed. Have your say in the comments below, or here in the Forum! Mailbag submissions and topic suggestions are also welcome, so feel free to hit us up in this thread.

Fifth NBA 2K14 Patch Out Now on Xbox One

According to a Tweet by 2K Community Manager LD2K, the fifth patch for NBA 2K14 is now available for the Xbox One version of the game, and will come through automatically as long as your console has an active Internet connection. The patch for the PlayStation 4 version of NBA 2K14 was pushed through earlier today.

As mentioned in the earlier bulletin, the patch is around 2.4 GB in size and addresses a few issues with MyGM, MyCAREER, and The Park. A reminder that 2K has also released a new Locker Code as a bonus gift: #BOXOFCHOCOLATES. According to Ronnie 2K, the code will be active for the remainder of the 2014 Conference Finals.

Feel free to add your thoughts on the patch in the comments below, or join in the discussion here in the NBA 2K14 section of the NLSC Forum.

Fifth NBA 2K14 Patch for PS4 is Available, Xbox One Soon

The fifth patch for NBA 2K14 is now available for PS4 users. Weighing in at a hefty 2.4 gigabytes the patch mostly focuses on crash/bug fixes, but there are a couple of relatively major changes. You are no longer allowed to have the same player of different years in the same MyTEAM lineup (so no multiple MJs), MyCAREER default quarter length was changed back to 6 and the On-Court Coach signature skill should work now for that mode. Other fixes are mostly focused on The Park, so if you haven’t checked out that mode due to the many issues that plagued it, now might be the time.

As a bonus, the locker code #BOXOFCHOCOLATES for a random item was released, so after you update your game you can enter that as a thank you for waiting to download the patch. Check out the full patch notes by hitting Read More, or in the Forum Thread for next gen patch updates.

NBA Street 2K14 Mod Released

Another PC simulation basketball game, another streetball mod created by myself. It seems like clockwork but I have been distracted in my street mod endeavors by trying to get too fancy or taking on too much work to be worth it. So I have gone back to the basics and focused on gameplay edits (inspired by NCAA and NBA Jam artist bigh0rt) to drastically change the simulation gameplay to a 3 chucking, slam dunking, over dribbling, and no help defense playing game of NBA 2K14. On top of that, any player I found that had a nickname in Basketball-Reference‘s database got a 20% boost in ratings, because street. To get it out to you as soon as possible I used last year’s mod’s street uniforms and premade street courts. Once RED MC’s iff editing is released, I will update the download with already completed updates to the courts and 3 new ones, including a conversion of 2K11’s Blacktop Mode court.

I hope you enjoy the mod as much as I have. You can get it from the NLSC Downloads Database and be sure to check the Forum Thread for additional previews and news. Hit read more to see some of the gameplay videos I have uploaded to my YouTube Channel, showcasing the different courts and gameplay changes.

The Tuesday Triple: My Favorite Hype Videos

This is The Tuesday Triple, where I attempt to break down random topics into three points, and maybe an “and one” if I need it. Similar to the established Friday Five by Andrew, the topics will be related to basketball video games and their communities as a whole.

Like I said in yesterday’s Dumb Monday, we are just a few weeks away from E3 which may give us our first looks at NBA 2K15 and NBA Live 15. While the information dropped may be lacking, both 2K and EA will be looking to kickstart their hype-trains for the upcoming games. In the spirit of whatever teaser or screenshot we might get, I am going to list off my top three short videos for NBA games that got me hyped up for the next game.

Dumb Mondays: NBA Video Games Are Unlucky

This is Dumb Mondays, starting the workweek off with silly facts or some of my opinions and predictions that you may or may not find interesting. This week I am sharing a dumb opinion and will be looking for and responding to your comments throughout the week.

The biggest video game convention of the year is just around the corner with E3 beginning in about three weeks. We might get a trailer, maybe an off-screen sneak peak, but usually the NBA video games at E3 get nothing more than some marketing buzzwords for features and a general idea of which direction this year’s game will be headed. Going into the second year of PlayStation 4 and Xbox One releases for NBA 2K15 and NBA Live 15 I am again hoping for more than basic information, but I’m not expecting anything special. It did give me a dumb idea though, maybe NBA video games are a bit unlucky in comparison to other video games.

NLSC Wiki Contributors Wanted

It’s been a while since I posted a notice about our Wiki, and since Lean has recently designed a shiny new logo for it, I feel it’s as good a time as any to mention it again.

For those of you who may have overlooked the link in the navigation bar here on the main site or in the NLSC Forum, we do indeed have a Wiki. It features articles on every game in both the NBA Live and NBA 2K series, as well as various aspects of gameplay, game modes, and information such as cheat codes and Achievements. You’ll also find several patching resources, including tutorials, DBF guides, and more.

A Wiki is intended to be a community project however, so I’d like to invite anyone with a good knowledge of NBA Live and NBA 2K to help expand and add to our library of articles, to create the ultimate resource for basketball video game fans. If you’re interested, please take a look at our guidelines and feel free to get started! You don’t need to be registered to make edits, but if you’re planning on making a large amount of contributions to the Wiki, I’d certainly recommend it. If nothing else, as with most Wikis, your IP address is publicly visible if you choose not to log in, so a user account helps protect your privacy.

As time goes by, we’ll likely look to give moderator status to Wiki users who are making frequent, quality contributions; if you’re active in the NLSC Forum as well, we can probably set you up with a Contributor badge and some custom profile options as a thank you for your efforts. If you have any questions or suggestions regarding the Wiki, please let me know, otherwise if you’ve got something to add to our articles, feel free to click those Edit links!
