March 21st Official Roster Update for NBA 2K14

New official rosters are available for NBA 2K14 on all platforms, featuring lineups that have been updated through March 21st, 2014. A couple of players who have recently signed 10 day contracts are missing from their respective teams, but recent injuries and returns from injury are accounted for.

As always, the new rosters will come through automatically as long as your PC, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4 or Xbox One is connected to the Internet when you fire up NBA 2K14. For those playing on PC who would like to update their game manually, you can do so using our offline pack, which contains the latest roster and online data files.

The Friday Five: 5 Reasons We Compile Wishlists

Welcome to this week’s edition of The Friday Five! This is a feature that I post every Friday in which I give my thoughts on a topic that’s related to basketball video games, the real NBA or another area of interest to our community, either as a list of five items or in the form of a Top 5 countdown.

It’s Wishlist Season again here at the NLSC! As you may have already seen, we’ve started compiling our Wishlist for NBA Live 15 and in this week’s Tuesday Triple, JaoSming outlined some of the things that he wants to see in NBA Live 15 and NBA 2K15 alike.

Of course, the concept of the Wishlist does invite some scepticism, as a contingent of basketball gamers are unsure that it’s worth all the effort, or that it will make any difference to the upcoming games. I take a far more optimistic point of view however and see the Wishlists as an important undertaking for our community, to help improve the games that we’re so passionate about. As such, this week’s Friday Five highlights the importance of our Wishlists, as I take a look at five reasons why we compile them.

Full Legends Roster Now Available in NBA Live 14 Ultimate Team

As of yesterday, Ultimate Team in NBA Live 14 now has a full roster of NBA Legends. 51 former NBA players in total are now randomly available to collect in Ultimate Team packs, from George Mikan to Allen Iverson. Check out a complete list of legends below.

Unfortunately, a lack of likeness rights prevents players such as Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen and Charles Barkley being included, with Michael Jordan notably having an exclusive deal with 2K Sports since 2010. Hopefully, we’ll see more legends added to Ultimate Team in the coming years, as well as the return of the All-Decade teams and Legends Pool.

In the meantime, which NBA Legends do you have on your Ultimate Team in NBA Live 14? Sound off in the comments below and join in the discussion in the NBA Live 14 section of the NLSC Forum.

NBA 2K14 PC on Sale for $10

Amazon currently has the digital PC version of NBA 2K14 discounted 66% for $10. If you buy it through this deal, Amazon will send you a code to redeem through Steam which how you will download it. According to this is the lowest price of NBA 2K14 so far, and the NBA 2K games rarely dip below this price until they are out of date.

This would be a great time to pick up the PC version for anyone who is on the fence as the game’s main file format, the iff file, will be getting a new modding tool as a part of an update to RED MC. This will allow the community to import any size textures into the game while also customizing aspects that simply have been impossible in all the years NBA 2K has been on PC. The PC version is missing MyTEAM and many online modes seen in the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of the game, but is backed by an extensive amount of mods which you can see in our Releases & Previews Forum. The deal runs until March 24th.

The Tuesday Triple: A Wishlist for Next Year

This is The Tuesday Triple, where I attempt to break down random topics into three points, and maybe an “and one” if I need it. Similar to the established Friday Five by Andrew, the topics will be related to basketball video games and their communities as a whole.

This is the best time for basketball video game communities to put out their wishlists for NBA 2K15 and NBA Live 15. You can see in our Forums that the EA developers are looking for your wishlist items for next year’s game. This is one of my favorite times of year when it comes to our basketball video games. We get to wonder what next year will bring, get excited as we near our first teasers just a couple months away, while also enjoying the best of college and professional hoops. So rather than highlight my three most wanted specific features for next year’s games, I want to put out my three wishlist overarching features that affect the game as a whole rather than a specific tweak or mode addition.

March 17th Official Roster Update for NBA 2K14

New official rosters have come through for NBA 2K14 on all platforms, featuring lineups that have been updated through March 17th, 2014. A couple of transactions from the past few days are missing, but the latest injuries are reflected in the update.

As always, the rosters will come through automatically as long as your PC, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4 or Xbox One is connected to the Internet when you start up NBA 2K14. However, if you’re playing the PC version and would like to update your game manually, you may do so by downloading our offline pack, which contains the latest roster and online data files.

Dumb Fact Monday: Exporting Draft Classes

This is Dumb Fact Monday, serving up random facts about basketball video games that you may or may not find interesting.

For most Association and MyGM players, an accurate draft class for the upcoming year is required to get the most of out the mode. While EA and 2K’s player generator can create some special characters, I feel that the ability to export a draft class from 2K’s College Hoops series is sorely missed in comparison. The best way to care about these generated draftees is by playing with or against them during their non-professional career. PC mods can help alleviate this missed feature, but no matter how much work goes into the accuracy of those mods they simply can not touch College Hoops 2K8. The ability to export and import draft classes from the college game into the NBA game was pretty well known for 2K basketball games, but do you know which EA basketball games supported this feature?

Preview of RED MC iff Editing

I have been beta testing the iff editing functionality of RED MC for Vl@d Zola Jr. and created a thread to preview some of the amazing things we will be able to accomplish, once RED MC is updated with this new functionality. There is no specific time set for release, but already this tool allows for some very cool modding options. So far I have been able to import a street arena into a normal arena, add crowds to the normally empty practice court, import the folding tables from the 60’s Celtics court into the modern arenas, and increase the resolution of nearly every texture I load in the tool. So not only will this tool allow for texture resolutions that surpass what we are seeing in NBA Live 14 and NBA 2K14 on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, but we will be able to more unique and original mods that have not been possible in this community since NBA Live PC games.

You can check out the screenshots and ask questions in this Forum Thread. When RED MC is updated with iff editing functionality, we will run another news item here on the main page.
