More NBA Live 16 Gameplay News Coming; Melo Screenshot

A bulletin has been posted over on the official NBA Live Facebook page, teasing that some more NBA Live 16 gameplay info will be coming our way later this week. Developer blogs tend to be released Thursday or Friday, and I’d speculate that LIVE Motion will be one of the next things that the NBA Live 16 development team will be discussing in detail.

With any luck, there’ll be some preview media (ideally more gameplay footage) accompanying gameplay info drop. In the meantime, a new screenshot featuring Carmelo Anthony has been posted on the official NBA Live social media accounts. You can check it out below, as well as over in our NBA Live 16 screenshots gallery.

NBA 2K16 Achievements Reveal New Info; Digital Pre-Orders

NBA 2K16 Special Edition Cover Featuring Michael Jordan

TrueAchievements has posted a complete list of achievements for NBA 2K16, which in turn has revealed some interesting new tidbits about this year’s game that have yet to be announced. Here’s a quick list of some of the most noteworthy items:

  • Following on from 2K’s post on social media, the Summer League will be available in MyGM and MyLEAGUE.
  • A mode called Play Now Online will involve call-ups, and a feature titled “Greatest of All-Time”.
  • During MyCAREER, you will be able to pick a college and announce your decision. Presumably there’ll be no college basketball gameplay owing to the lack of an NCAA license, but more details are obviously yet to come.
  • A character named “Vic” will feature heavily in the story for MyCAREER. Apparently, the MyPLAYER character will also be put in a position where they have to admit “uncomfortable truths”.
  • Teams can be relocated in MyGM and MyLEAGUE
  • Three team trades have been added to MyGM and MyLEAGUE.
  • MyTEAM includes an unlockable mode/feature called Historic Domination. It will also feature The Gauntlet (presumably a new challenge mode), collectible “runes”, and solvable codes.

NBA 2K16 is now available to order digitally on Steam, the PlayStation Network, and Xbox Live. In addition to the pre-order bonuses for this year’s game, pre-ordering NBA 2K16 will also net you 35,000 VC to use in NBA 2K15 (assuming you have it). Interestingly, it now appears that the Special Edition featuring Michael Jordan is also available for PC users, too.

NBA Live 16 Q&A Videos by TicoisTocory

We’re still waiting for the next NBA Live 16 info drop from EA Sports, but in the meantime, have you checked out some of the latest videos from TicoisTocory? As previously mentioned, the popular YouTuber was in attendance at E3 and spent a considerable amount of time playing NBA Live 16, in order to provide in-depth impressions, as well as offer up answers to basketball gamers with questions about this year’s offering from EA.

In addition to his initial impressions video, Tico has posted four videos that go in-depth on gameplay in NBA Live 16, and answer various questions that were submitted to him. They’re definitely a must-watch for anyone who’s interested in NBA Live 16, so check them all out below, or catch them on his YouTube channel.

We’ll have the opportunity to ask the NBA Live 16 developers some questions of our own in the near future, and we’ll certainly be taking some suggestions from the community, so stay tuned for that. More NBA Live 16 news shouldn’t be too far away – details about the brand new game mode will be revealed at Gamescom in August – and we’ll be sure to cover all of the developments as they happen.

In the meantime, check out Tico’s videos below, subscribe to him on YouTube, and of course, feel free to have your say in the comments section, as well as join in the discussion in our NBA Live 16 Forum.

NBA 2K16 to Feature the NBA Summer League

NBA Summer League play has tipped off, which has led 2K Sports to drop another tidbit about NBA 2K16. According to posts made on the official NBA 2K Facebook and Twitter accounts, the Summer League will be included in NBA 2K16 in some form.

No further details have been made available at this time, but presumably it will be incorporated into MyCAREER, MyGM, and MyLEAGUE. At the very least, I would expect it to be a part of the story in this year’s MyCAREER mode, which as previously mentioned, is being produced by Spike Lee. As soon as any more information becomes available, we’ll be sure to post it.

In the meantime, what are your thoughts on the latest development? Sound off in the comments below, and join in the discussion in our NBA 2K16 Forum!

The Friday Five: 5 Modes I Enjoyed More Than I Thought I Would

The Friday Five

Welcome to this week’s edition of The Friday Five! This is a feature that I post every Friday in which I give my thoughts on a topic that’s related to basketball video games, the real NBA or another area of interest to our community, either as a list of five items or in the form of a Top 5 countdown.

Well! It’s certainly shaping up to be an interesting – and somewhat controversial – offseason so far. Some big names are staying put, a few significant players are moving on, and at least one key free agent has completely changed his mind. I was considering writing about a topic related to the offseason for this week’s Friday Five, with the DeAndre Jordan situation being an obvious frontrunner. However, I can pretty much sum up my thoughts on that in ten words: it was a situation that was handled very, very badly.

Besides, as I mentioned in last week’s Five, I want to concentrate on putting out some articles about basketball video games, since that is the focus of the NLSC after all. The Finals and Playoffs offered an incentive to talk about real basketball, but as we find ourselves in the offseason and waiting for more news on both NBA Live 16 and NBA 2K16, I feel some game related topics are in order. To that end, this week I’m talking about five game modes in basketball video games that I ended up enjoying more than I thought I would. Let’s tip things off with a mode from NBA 2K!

Details on NBA 2K16 Soundtrack, Other Tidbits

2K has posted some details on the soundtrack for NBA 2K16. The game is set to deliver the largest soundtrack in the history of the NBA 2K series, as it will feature six in-game playlists, curated by DJ Mustard, DJ Khaled, and DJ Premier. There will be 50 tracks in total, including six brand new exclusive songs, along with some old favourites from previous iterations of NBA 2K. The soundtrack will also span a variety of genres, from the 70s through to today’s Top 40.

In case the soundtrack isn’t a big deal for you, a couple of other tidbits about NBA 2K16 have been posted recently, which may be of more interest. 2K have been bringing NBA players and even dancers into the studio to perform body scans, for more accurate body models, skin textures, and tattoos in NBA 2K16. You can check out a couple of body scan photos from the NBA 2K social media accounts below.

Finally, producer Zach Timmerman has mentioned on Twitter that so far, 32 new backdown animations have been added to NBA 2K16. We’re yet to get a glimpse of NBA 2K16 in action, or even any screenshots, but it looks like we’ll continue to get the odd tidbit here and there in the lead up to more in-depth developer blogs. We’ll be sure to cover those developments and report on any information about NBA 2K16 as it becomes available.

In the meantime however, feel free to have your say about the NBA 2K16 soundtrack, body scans, and animations in the comments section below, as well as join in the discussion in our NBA 2K16 Forum!

Four Key Upgrades to Gameplay in NBA Live 16

EA’s Live to Play blog has posted a new article which details four key upgrades to gameplay in NBA Live 16. There is some overlap with the previous gameplay blog that was posted over on the official NBA Live site, but there are still some interesting notes about a few of the improvements that have been made in NBA Live 16.

The blog emphasies the smoothness of the gameplay, from dribbling and driving to passing and squaring up for a shot on the catch. It also mentions improvements to animations across the board, revealing that more mo-cap shoots have taken place than ever before. Furthermore, a lot of the motion capture sessions have simply involved five-on-five basketball, with the aim of achieving a more natural and realistic look in NBA Live 16.

The introduction of LIVE Motion in NBA Live 16 has also seen the addition of over 8000 new animations, and an increase in both physicality and awareness for all ten players on the court. Finally, Executive Producer Sean O’Brien mentions that the team listens to fan feedback “religiously”, reiterating the importance of constructive feedback from NBA Live gamers.

A new screenshot featuring Kyrie Irving has also been released along with the blog, which you can see below; you can also find it over in our NBA Live 16 screenshot gallery. As always, feel free to have your say in the comments section below, and join in the discussion in our NBA Live 16 Forum.

The Friday Five: 5 NBA-Related Criticisms I Disagree With

The Friday Five

Welcome to this week’s edition of The Friday Five! This is a feature that I post every Friday in which I give my thoughts on a topic that’s related to basketball video games, the real NBA or another area of interest to our community, either as a list of five items or in the form of a Top 5 countdown.

I do want to go back to talking about basketball video games more often in the Friday Five – that’s kind of what the NLSC is about, after all – but I have had this week’s topic on my mind for a while now. As such, I wanted to get it out of the way before new topics relating to NBA Live 16, NBA 2K16, and the 2015 NBA offseason present themselves in the coming weeks.

It’s safe to say that most of us around these parts are enthusiastic NBA fans, myself included. However, just because the NBA is where amazing happens, doesn’t mean that we love everything about the league. While I do agree with many of the common criticisms that are made of the NBA, there are a few prominent issues on which I have a different opinion. Without any further ado, here are five NBA-related criticisms that I disagree with.
