Is James Harden the Cover Player for NBA 2K16?

At the risk of posting shameless clickbait…let’s speculate.

The cover image of the official NBA 2K Facebook page has been changed to a screenshot of James Harden, accompanied by the Houston Rockets logo, the NBA 2K15 logo, and the familiar hashtag, #YourTimeHasCome. While those are some fairly explicit references to last year’s game, it’s possible that 2K are dropping a subtle hint about the cover player of NBA 2K16. After all, cover players are generally signed well in advance of the NBA offseason (and the NBA video game “preview season”), and Harden has established himself as a prominent star in the league. It wouldn’t be a shock if he does end up being on the cover of NBA 2K16.

Having said that, Harden’s name is being mentioned a lot as one of the leading candidates to win this year’s Most Valuable Player award, so the new Facebook page cover may simply be recognising his performance this season. #YourTimeHasCome, the hashtag that was heavily used in the promotion of NBA 2K15, could just as easily refer to the possibility of Harden joining the esteemed group of players who have earned an MVP nod in years gone by.

At the end of the day, this is hardly confirmation of anything, and as gamers, we have a tendency to read too much into things, so take it with a healthy dose of salt. I for one wouldn’t be too surprised if James Harden does turn out to be the cover player of NBA 2K16; along with Russell Westbrook, he would seem to be a sensible and somewhat likely candidate. That said, we certainly won’t be reporting anything as fact until there’s an official announcement…or at least, a leak from a reputable source. Still, it’s fun to speculate in the meantime.

Do you think this is a subtle nod to James Harden being on the cover of NBA 2K16, or do you think it’s simply acknowledging him as a frontrunner in this year’s MVP race? If not Harden, who do you think will be on the cover of NBA 2K16? Sound off in the comments below!

Details on the April 2nd Roster for NBA Live 15

A new roster has come through for NBA Live 15, with lineups that have been updated through April 2nd. The roster also contains over 3700 ratings updates, and reflects the recent retirement of future Hall of Fame point guard Steve Nash.

Dwyane Wade and Kelly Olynyk are the two players in the spotlight this week. Wade’s overall has increased to 85 following his recent play, including a 40 point, six rebound and four assist performance in the Miami Heat’s win over the Detroit Pistons. Olynyk meanwhile has been very productive off the bench for the Boston Celtics, improving one point to 78 overall in the latest roster as a result.

You can check out a spreadsheet listing all of the changes in the April 2nd roster here. If you have any feedback on the rosters, feel free to post it in the comments below, as well as in this thread in the NBA Live 15 section of the Forum.

The Friday Five: 5 More Basketball Video Game Easter Eggs

The Friday Five

Welcome to this week’s edition of The Friday Five! This is a feature that I post every Friday in which I give my thoughts on a topic that’s related to basketball video games, the real NBA or another area of interest to our community, either as a list of five items or in the form of a Top 5 countdown.

It’s been a couple of years since I compiled a list of some of the cool things that we’ve found while playing basketball video games, as well as poking around in their files. Seeing as though Easter is upon us once again, I thought it’d only be appropriate to take a look at five more Easter Eggs that we’ve discovered over the years.

Secrets and Easter Eggs definitely add fun to video games, rewarding us for exploring every nook and cranny of the game world, going off the beaten track and trying something outlandish, or on a more meta level, hunting through the game’s data files. Sports games aren’t necessarily jam packed with them – or at least, their Easter Eggs aren’t usually as wild, wacky, or creative as other game genres – but there’s usually something interesting to find, be it dummied out content, leftover files, or something completely unexpected. Let’s take a look at another five basketball video game Easter Eggs that you may or may not be aware of.

NBA 2K15 Patch #4 Out Now on Xbox One; Patch Notes Released

The fourth official patch for NBA 2K15 is now available for the Xbox One version of the game. PC and PlayStation 4 users have already received the patch, back on March 12th. Full patch notes have also been made available, and they are as follows:

  • (XB1) Online games will no longer disconnect during gameplay when one or more users had minimized the title and returned while sitting on the Team Select screen prior to playing.
  • Made a number of improvements to the player progression/regression systems that drive player ratings in MyGM/MyLEAGUE/MyCAREER.
  • Fixed a rare case where the user team would trade for the upcoming pick mid-draft (MyGM/MyLEAGUE), but the team that traded away the pick would retain the rights to the player.
  • Fixed an issue where some users were unable to access specific Online Leagues.
  • Removed “auto-hesitation” dribble animations that played when driving near defenders. Smoothed out the sprint to jog transition in the back court.
  • Tuned shot percentages for a more obvious distinction between open and covered shots. Slight increase to contact dunk frequency for high level dunkers.
  • Corrected an issue in MyTEAM where improved player badges were not appearing in the correct color when viewing a head-to-head game. The correct badge level with appropriate gameplay adjustments are now being made.
  • The ‘Bruiser’ and ‘Hardened’ badges will now unlock properly in MyCAREER when the appropriate conditions are met.
  • Fixed a rare case where some users would occasionally see the title hang during the series of legal screens at the start of the game.
  • (XB1) Corrected an issue where Park Chat through the My NBA 2K15 app would not work for some users.
  • (XB1) Fixed an issue where a user’s gamertag would not update in the Roster Creator interface when the gamertag was changed outside of the title.

Feel free to discuss the patch in the comments section below, as well as in this thread in the NBA 2K15 section of the Forum!

The Friday Five: Previewing Our 20th Anniversary of NBA Live Content

The Friday Five

Welcome to this week’s edition of The Friday Five! This is a feature that I post every Friday in which I give my thoughts on a topic that’s related to basketball video games, the real NBA or another area of interest to our community, either as a list of five items or in the form of a Top 5 countdown.

If you’ve been listening to the NLSC Podcast for a while, you may have heard me mention that we’re looking to do some content for the 20th Anniversary of NBA Live. We originally intended to run these features last year – which was indeed the 20th anniversary of the game’s original release – but a few things ultimately got in the way, not the least of which was covering the latest games (which of course remains our priority). However, this year marks the 20th anniversary of NBA Live 95’s PC release, and seeing how PC coverage has been a big part of what we do here at the NLSC, the timing still feels right.

The content, which will start rolling out pretty soon, will be running for a few months alongside our other updates, including coverage of the NBA Live 16 (and NBA 2K16) preview season. While the NBA Live series has fallen on hard times in recent years, a lot of us did grow up playing the games and have fond memories of them, so I’m looking forward to reflecting on the good times, as well as exploring the mishaps, and discussing what the series needs to do moving forward. So, what kind of content can you expect to see? Read on to find out!
