NLSC Podcast Episode #116 This Week; Topic Suggestions Wanted

NLSC Podcast Logo

Unfortunately Arcane was a little under the weather last week, so we weren’t able to record a new episode of the NLSC Podcast. However, we anticipate getting together to record a new episode within the next couple of days, so you can expect Episode #116 to be out this week.

Naturally, we have a few things in mind to talk about, including the tidbits on NBA 2K16 in the most recent episode of 2KTV, and of course the latest results from the 2015 NBA Playoffs, but we’d also like to invite our listeners to submit some topic suggestions and mailbag questions. As I’ve said before, we want to make sure that we’re putting out an enjoyable show and not only talking about the stuff that interests us, but the stuff that you want to hear about, too.

So, feel free to post your suggestions in the comments section below, as well as in this thread in the NLSC Hub! You can also hit us up on Facebook or Twitter, if you’re active on those social media platforms.

NBA 2K16 Tidbits in the Latest Episode of 2KTV

Developers Mike Wang and Scott O’Gallagher are the guests on the latest episode of 2KTV. In addition to recapping their first round simulation and discussing the second round of the 2015 NBA Playoffs, Mike and Scott also offer up a couple of tidbits on NBA 2K16.

Mike mentions that he’s working with his engineers to make chemistry a bigger aspect of the game, a point Scott reiterates in mentioning that there is a focus on making NBA 2K16 more about the team. The episode isn’t up on YouTube as of writing, but if you have the PC, PlayStation 4, or Xbox One version of NBA 2K15, you can fire it up and check out the episode from the main menu.

It’s a little early so we haven’t launched our NBA 2K16 section yet, but discussion of this year’s game is currently welcome in the NBA 2K15 section of the Forum, so feel free to post your thoughts there, as well as in the comments section below. Also, don’t forget to join in the Wishlist discussion taking place in this thread!

The Friday Five: 5 Best Basketball Game Cover Players

The Friday Five

Welcome to this week’s edition of The Friday Five! This is a feature that I post every Friday in which I give my thoughts on a topic that’s related to basketball video games, the real NBA or another area of interest to our community, either as a list of five items or in the form of a Top 5 countdown.

In last week’s Friday Five, I talked about five players who suffered from the proverbial “cover curse” after gracing the covers of various basketball video games. It was definitely a fun topic to talk about, and I was reminded of one or two other “cursed” players in the comments section. If you can think of any other players who were hit by misfortune after appearing on the cover of a basketball game, be sure to check out last week’s article, and let me know.

I’m looking on the bright side this week, as I’m offering up a list of who I believe to be the best basketball video game cover players that we’ve had so far. I’ve made these picks according to a few factors: magnitude of stardom, their level of success around the time they appeared on the cover, and yes, there’s some personal bias in there as well. So, without any further ado, I present my choices for the five best basketball video game cover players!

Details on May 7th Roster Update for NBA Live 15

A new roster has come through for NBA Live 15, containing Playoff rosters updated through May 7th. The latest roster contains over 1100 ratings changes, and 11 player accessory updates. For a complete overview of all the changes, be sure to check out this spreadsheet.

The two players in the spotlight this week are LeBron James and Chris Paul. LeBron’s numbers in the Cleveland Cavaliers’ first round sweep of the Boston Celtics have earned him a one point boost to his overall (now 95), though his headband hasn’t been re-added yet. Meanwhile, CP3’s gutsy performance in the Los Angeles Clippers’ epic seven game series against the defending champion San Antonio Spurs has seen him receive a boost to his clutch rating, and an increase to 94 overall.

As always, feel free to post any thoughts on the roster in the comments section below, as well as in this thread in our NBA Live 15 Forum!

The Friday Five: 5 Cursed Basketball Game Cover Players

The Friday Five

Welcome to this week’s edition of The Friday Five! This is a feature that I post every Friday in which I give my thoughts on a topic that’s related to basketball video games, the real NBA or another area of interest to our community, either as a list of five items or in the form of a Top 5 countdown.

Around this time each year, we generally start speculating about the cover players for the next edition of NBA Live and NBA 2K. Last week, a report from Polygon gave us something to think about, as leaked images have fuelled rumours that NBA 2K16 will feature three different cover players – James Harden, Stephen Curry, and Kevin Durant – as well as involvement from filmmaker Spike Lee, presumably in this year’s MyCAREER mode. As of writing however, no official announcement has been made.

Although the cover is ultimately inconsequential as far as the quality of a basketball video game is concerned, it remains a popular talking point, so I thought I’d write a Friday Five or two about previous cover players. I’ve been thinking about some of the best and worst cover players, and have some lists to post in the not too distant future, but I’ve also been thinking about superstitions and supposed “cursed” cover players. Basketball players have generally fared better than NFL players who have graced the cover of Madden, but misfortune has befallen some players who have appeared on the covers of various hoops titles. Here are five such players that come to mind.

NLSC Podcast Logo

I’m back in the 21st Century with a working broadband connection, so Arcane and I were able to record Episode #115 of the NLSC Podcast, which we’re presenting to you today. This week’s topics include the NBA Live 16 Wishlist, NBA 2K16 rumours, the latest action from the 2015 NBA Playoffs, and more.

  • We’re still collecting some great feedback for our NBA Live 16 Wishlist. A recent Tweet from the official NBA Live Twitter account also demonstrates that our ideas are not going unnoticed.
  • Have the NBA 2K16 cover players been leaked? Last week’s Polygon report has provided us with a few rumours to discuss.
  • The Playoffs are bringing new content for NBA Live 15 and NBA 2K15, mostly for Ultimate Team and MyTEAM.
  • We recap some recent releases in the NBA Live and NBA 2K patching community.
  • Speaking of patching, we once again discuss the notion that 2K has done wrong by the modding community with NBA 2K15’s restrictions.
  • Retro Basketball Video Game Talk is seemingly becoming a weekly segment. In the spotlight this week: Total NBA ’96 for the original PlayStation.
  • Moving on to the 2015 NBA Playoffs, we recap and give our thoughts on all the action so far.
  • Rajon Rondo certainly doesn’t appear likely to return to the Mavericks next year. We discuss where he might end up.
  • The Houston Rockets fired their social media manager following a controversial Tweet. Fair or foul?
  • Billy Donovan is close to replacing Scott Brooks as the Oklahoma City Thunder’s coach.
  • We wrap up Episode #115 with promising news for Nike fanboys…which would include us.
