In the wake of confirming that the release of NBA Live 15 has been pushed back to October 28th, Executive Producer Sean O’Brien took over the official NBA Live Twitter to answer questions from the fans. Sean mentioned a few of the things that the team will be working on in the additional three weeks of development, as well as what to expect from certain modes and features.
Following the Q&A on the official NBA Live Twitter, Sean also answered a few more questions via his personal account. I’ve recapped all the information below, and also embedded the original Tweets. More developer blogs and preview media will be on the way soon; we’re also arranging to get Sean back on the NLSC Podcast for another chat, so look out for that in the coming weeks. If you still haven’t tuned in to our previous interview, you can check it out here.
As always, you can add your thoughts in the comments below, as well as join in the discussion here in the NBA Live 15 section of the NLSC Forum.
NBA Live 15 Twitter Q&A Highlights
- It appears as though there will be a Create-a-Player mode in the game after all, which seems to suggest local saves (or at least custom rosters). No further details are available at this time.
- As we confirmed in our interview with Sean last month, there will be no gameplay sliders.
- There has been improvement to the ESPN Presentation, but it wasn’t the focus this year. Halftime will include a full ESPN broadcast package.
- New Legends have been added to the game. As per our interview with Sean, they’ll only be available in Ultimate Team.
- There are new camera angles this year. No specifics as yet.
- The additional three weeks of development will focus on fine-tuning control and responsiveness, animation quality, player AI, presentation, and game balance.
- Crowd reactions to big plays are currently being polished.
- All the improvements that have gone into NBA Live 14 will also be present in NBA Live 15.
- Damian Lillard was chosen as the cover player, as the team feels that he embodies the NBA Live brand.
- Although they aren’t the focus this year, Sean reiterates that there have been improvements to Dynasty Mode and Rising Star.
- In response to a question whether the game would actually be released – since previous delays have led to cancellations – Sean asserted that it is “100%” coming out on October 28th, 2014.
- Plenty of signature animations have been added, including dribbles, jumpers, and celebrations.
- Information on the soundtrack is coming soon. Once again, it has been put together by MICK.
- Victor Oladipo is rated 82 overall. A new screenshot was also released along with that tidbit.
- Rosters will be kept up to date all season, player tendencies will be updated after every single game via Synergy Sports.
- At launch, there’ll be BIG Moments and Rewind content from last season, ready to go. BIG Moments are apparently “bigger” this year, too; no further details just yet.
- The post game has been improved, with new interactions in the paint.
- Players will post more realistic numbers in simulation. Gameplay may vary a bit of course, depending on how users perform and what they decide to do.
- Animations are still being polished, but what we saw in the Visuals Trailer is close-to-final graphics.
- Sean mentions “control and responsiveness” as his favourite gameplay improvement, as well as the physicality when attacking the rim.
- Defense has been improved. More details to come.
- A deeper look at gameplay and game modes is on the way soon. Not sure if it’ll be this week or not, but definitely coming soon.
- Passing animations are still being worked on; aiming to reduce stiffness, add more polish.
- The quick action button will allow you to initiate intelligent off-ball movement to get things going on offense.
- There are a “lot of cool improvements” to Rising Star this year. Once again, specifics coming soon.
- Improvements have been made to dribbling, though the team is currently working on game balance so that it isn’t too easy to break ankles.
