This is Wayback Wednesday, your midweek blast from the past! In this feature, we dig into the archives, look back at the history of basketball gaming, and indulge in some nostalgia. Check in every Wednesday for retrospectives and other features on older versions of NBA Live, NBA 2K, and old school basketball video games in general. You’ll also find old NLSC editorials re-published with added commentary, and other flashback content. This week, I’m taking a look back at the fictional Golden State Warriors jersey that appeared in a couple of NBA Live games.

I replaced my Xbox 360 last week, after the optical drive failed in my old console. It’s good timing too, as I need to fire up the NBA Live games from that generation to get a few screenshots and check a few details as we tip off our 25th Anniversary of NBA Live content this month. Beyond that, I get to dust off a few games I haven’t played in a while and enjoy them again. For example, I haven’t played NBA Live 10 much since I covered The Hangar in a previous Wayback Wednesday feature. Messing around with it as I tested my replacement console, I remembered what a solid release it was.

While I was spending some time with NBA Live 10, I also remembered the fictional jersey that was available for the Golden State Warriors. It originally appeared in NBA Live 09, and was an exclusive to EA Sports’ basketball series. What’s the story behind this unusual alternate home uniform? With the preview season for NBA Live 19 and NBA 2K19 well underway, and the release of both games on the horizon, it’s past due to draw the winner of our March Modness giveaway. Congratulations to TGsoGood, whose entry into the giveaway was drawn at random!

TGsoGood will have a choice of prize between NBA 2K19 (Standard Edition) and NBA Live 19. Thank you to everyone who entered the March Modness giveaway with their contributions back in March. As I mentioned at the time, it’s something that we might look to do each March moving forward, and if so, I’ll certainly try to ensure that everything about the event and giveaway runs a little smoother in the future.

Once again, the release of NBA Live 19 and NBA 2K19 are just around the corner, so stay tuned to the NLSC for further previews, PC mods, and other original content!

March is over – almost a week ago, in fact – and as such, our inaugural March Modness event has also drawn to a close. A huge thank you to all of our modders who participated in the giveaway, as well as those who simply continued to release their work last month. We’ll be drawing the winner of the contest soon, and delivering the prize of their choice once NBA Live 19 and NBA 2K19 are available to pre-order and are subsequently released later this year.

As I mentioned in my original bulletin, we’ll certainly consider making this an annual event here at the NLSC, to celebrate our modding community. We might also consider other community-driven events, and I’d like to offer some more giveaways that are open to everyone later on this year as well. As I noted here in the NLSC Forum, while March Modness may be over for this year, I’ve felt inspired to get back into the hobby a little more, and expect to be releasing some more work throughout this month. We won’t be running another giveaway alongside it, but as far as my own efforts are concerned, I’m hoping to make it Add-On April. I’ll post further details, and releases, as soon as possible.

Thank you as always to everyone in our modding community who contributes to our Downloads section, as well as our resources. I encourage everyone to make use of our hosting facilities whenever possible, to ensure that files don’t get lost over time. EA Sports has hooked us up with a few digital copies of NBA Live 18 to give away, so we’re tipping off our first contest for this basketball gaming season. For our first giveaway, there are two codes for PlayStation 4 and two codes for Xbox One up for grabs. Please note that the codes for PS4 are US region locked, while the codes for X1 are global. Our apologies for any inconvenience; we’ll try to sort out a global giveaway for PS4 at some point in the future.

To win, simply tell us about your favourite NBA Live game in 200 words or less, and let us know whether you’re after a PS4 or X1 version of NBA Live 18. There are two ways to enter:

1. Register an NLSC Forum account and reply to this topic.
2. Register an account and reply in the comments section of this news post (guest posts are not eligible).

I’ll pick four winners (two PS4, two X1) out of the entries that I like the best, and hook them up with a copy. Please note that it’s one entry per person, NLSC staff members are not eligible, and all decisions are final. If you miss out this time, we’ll be giving away a few more codes in the near future, so there will be another opportunity to snag a free copy of NBA Live 18. Once again, please also note that the codes we’ve been given for PlayStation 4 are US region locked, but the codes we have for Xbox One are global.
