Monday Tip-Off: The Case of the Mysterious Screenshot

Monday Tip-Off: The Case of the Mysterious Screenshot

We’re at midcourt, and the ball is about to go up…it’s Monday Tip-Off! Start your week here at the NLSC with a feature that’s dedicated to opinions, commentary, and other fun stuff related to NBA Live, NBA 2K, and other basketball video games. This week, I’m tipping things off with the story about a mysterious screenshot that I found in my collection.

For a long time – far too long, in fact – I left my weekly articles until the last minute. Not just writing them, but coming up with the topic, too. Even after I devised lists of ideas for future articles, I didn’t always have anything prepared by the time Monday, Wednesday, and Friday rolled around. In recent years, I’ve made a point of building up a buffer of articles based on my list of topic ideas. It’s meant that I’ve always got something ready to go, and if I’ve set aside the time, I’m able to schedule features a week or two in advance.

This prep work has been important for time management, consistency, and quality. Even though I’ve been pleased with certain articles that were actually written at the last minute, I’m far more satisfied with features that I haven’t had to rush. Part of preparing articles in advance is ensuring that I have appropriate screenshots to use, which means taking the time to fire up the necessary games to capture them, and set up any specific scenarios as required. It’s usually obvious why I have a particular screenshot in my archives, but recently I discovered one that left me stumped. This mysterious screenshot was for an article idea that I’ve completely forgotten about.

As with the previous screenshot featuring 20th Anniversary Edition cover player LeBron James, the latest screen also reveals Jayson Tatum’s Overall Rating. Giannis Antetokounmpo is NBA 2K19 Cover Player; First Screenshot

NBA 2K19 Cover Art

Following what seems to have been a completely inadvertent leak last week, the Milwaukee Bucks’ Giannis Antetokounmpo has been officially revealed as the cover player for the Standard Edition of NBA 2K19. The cover art is similar in theme to the 20th Anniversary Edition cover featuring LeBron James, who has just signed with the Los Angeles Lakers.

Antetokounmpo becomes the first European player and Milwaukee Buck to appear on the primary cover of NBA 2K. Pre-order customers will receive a Sapphire Giannis Antetokounmpo MyTEAM card, along with 10 MyPLAYER packs (one delivered each week), and 5000 VC.

In addition to the cover reveal, we also have our first “First Look” screenshot of the year, naturally featuring The Greek Freak. Check it out below, along with the full cover art.

The 20th Anniversary Edition of NBA 2K19 comes out on September 7th, while the Standard Edition drops on September 11th. This year’s Prelude, once again only available on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, will be coming out on August 31st. What do you make of the cover reveal? Do you have any thoughts on NBA 2K19 so far? NBA Live 19 Teaser Screenshot; More Details Coming at EA Play

NBA Live 19: Teaser Screenshot

We have our first teaser screenshot for NBA Live 19, via the official NBA Live Instagram account. The screenshot features a variety of current and former NBA players posing on a street court, with the Legends wearing their throwback jerseys. WNBA player Maya Moore and NBA Street character Stretch are also notably among the players in the screenshot.

While there’s still a lot to learn about NBA Live 19, this obviously confirms the presence of NBA Legends, at least one NBA Street character, and WNBA players in this year’s game. It remains to be seen what capacity Legends and WNBA players will appear in throughout the game, but if nothing else, it seems as though they’ll be present in The Streets. From the screenshot, and other teasers from the developers on Twitter, it seems that international street courts will also be featured this year.

NBA Live 19’s presence at EA Play 2018 will allow us to find out more about the game very soon. Details are expected to be revealed during EA’s press conference, which will begin in about eleven hours. You can stream it live here on YouTube, or watch it below once it begins.

You can also check out the full size teaser screenshot below. What do you make of the teaser? What are you hoping or expecting to hear about NBA Live 19 during EA’s press conference? Have your say in the comments section below, and join in the discussion here in the NLSC Forum.

NBA Live 18 Off-Screen Screenshot featuring LeBron James

Off-Screen Screenshot of LeBron James in NBA Live 18

A new off-screen screenshot of NBA Live 18 has given us our first proper peek at the game. Taken by Chris Denker at an EA Sports event this past weekend, it features LeBron James in the foreground, with Avery Bradley a little out of focus in the background.

NBA Live 18 was shown to a select few gamers at the event, so depending on the nature of any Non-Disclosure Agreements that were signed, we might start hearing a few tidbits and impressions of the game very soon. As previously noted, NBA Live 18 will be playable at EA Play 2017, so at this point, it seems that news is right around the corner.

Being that it is an off-screen screenshot, it’s obviously not the best quality, but the detail on LeBron James is certainy noticeable. Click the thumbnail below for a closer look:

Off-Screen Screenshot of LeBron James in NBA Live 18

ThaLiveKing has posted a solid breakdown of the screenshot here in our Forum, comparing it to a screenshot of LeBron James in NBA Live 16. Feel free to join in the discussion there, as well as share your impressions in the comments section below. With the preview season just about ready to tip off, we’ll certainly be looking to stay on top of all the NBA Live 18 news and set up a few interviews with the development team, so stay tuned.

NBA 2K17 Screenshot: Draymond Green

NBA 2K17: Draymond Green

2K has released the latest screenshot of NBA 2K17, and as expected, it features the final member of Team 2K: Draymond Green. You can check out the screen below, as well as over in our NBA 2K17 screenshots gallery.

According to a recent Twitter exchange involving Ronnie 2K, some kind of significant preview will be coming on August 24th, so we may be getting an extended gameplay trailer, developer blog, or both, within the next few days. We’ll be sure to post whatever comes through.

NBA 2K17 Screenshot: Kevin Durant

NBA 2K17: Kevin Durant

2K has released a new screenshot today, featuring Kevin Durant in a Golden State Warriors uniform. You can check it out below, as well as in our NBA 2K17 screenshot gallery. There’s one member of Team 2K left to preview with a screenshot – Draymond Green – so we can probably all guess the screen that we’ll be seeing tomorrow!

Speaking of images, with NBA 2K17 less than a month away from the Early Tip-Off Weekend release, Dommy73 has started a countdown thread in the Forum. This is a game that we’ve played in previous years, in which we post a photo of a player wearing a jersey number that corresponds to the number of days left until the release. If you’d like to join in the fun, check out the thread here.

NBA 2K17 Screenshot, IGN Preview & Gamescom Videos

NBA 2K17: Andre Drummond

2K has released another new NBA 2K17 screenshot today, featuring Team 2K member Andre Drummond. Check it out below, as well as over in our screenshots gallery. If a couple more screenshots are heading our way in the near future, it seems a safe bet that they’ll feature the remaining members of Team 2K, Kevin Durant and Draymond Green.

IGN has also posted a preview of NBA 2K17, discussing the developers’ aim to improve authenticity in this year’s title. In additional to visual enhancements, it provides us with a few tidbits on gameplay. This year, we’ll reportedly have more control over the action, with less reliance on probability from stats. Fatigue has also been revamped to have a larger effect on player performance, while rebounding will involve more physicality and tipped balls.

The IGN preview also notes that due to the changes in the way Euroleague teams are selected, this year’s teams are all up to date, rather than being a year behind with their rosters. On top of that, we have confirmation that the 1992 Dream Team will be available as paid DLC, in addition to being a pre-order bonus. While that still may not sit well with a lot of basketball gamers, it is good news for anyone who plans on picking up the game later, and doesn’t mind shelling out a few bucks for the Dream Team. No word as yet on how much that DLC will cost.

Finally, a few gameplay videos have been coming out of Gamescom, which a couple of our members have been diligently sourcing and posting in the Forum. You can check them out below; thanks to Manni Live and PeacemanNOT for the heads up!

NBA 2K17 News: Screenshot, Gamescom Previews, Euroleague

NBA 2K17: Karl-Anthony Towns

2K has released another new NBA 2K17 screenshot, this time featuring Karl-Anthony Towns. You can check it out below, or over in our NBA 2K17 screenshots gallery. The remaining members of Team 2K are Kevin Durant, Draymond Green, and Andre Drummond, so one of those players is quite likely to be featured in the next screenshot.

Gamescom 2016 has also brought us some snippets of news about NBA 2K17. Early hands-on impressions mention a new shot meter (involving filling a semi-circle rather than stopping the bar in the middle), more fluidity, and a lot of new animations. Controls are very similar to NBA 2K16, although there are now more controls for off-ball situations and a couple of other minor changes, as outlined by these screenshots. A new score overlay is also visible in a photo that was taken of the screen.

Eurohoops has also revealed the list of Euroleague teams that will be available in NBA 2K17: ALBA Berlin, Anadolu Efes Istanbul, Brose Bamberg, Crvena Zvezda mts Belgrade, CSKA Moscow, Darussafaka Dogus Istanbul, EA7 Emporio Armani Milan, FC Barcelona Lassa, FC Bayern Munich, Fenerbahce Istanbul, Galatasaray Odeabank Istanbul, Laboral Kutxa Vitoria Gasteiz, Maccabi FOX Tel Aviv, Olympiacos Piraeus, Panathinaikos Superfoods Athens, Ratiopharm Ulm, Real Madrid, Unicaja Malaga, Unics Kazan, Valencia Basket, and Zalgiris Kaunas.

NBA 2K17 Screenshot: Jimmy Butler

NBA 2K17: Jimmy Butler

Another new NBA 2K17 screenshot has been released today, and as expected, it features another member of Team 2K: Jimmy Butler. With Butler, Paul George, and Kyrie Irving’s screenshots revealed, the current trend suggests that the next few screens will feature Kevin Durant, Draymond Green, Andre Drummond, and Karl-Anthony Towns.

You can check out the screenshot of Jimmy Butler in NBA 2K17 below, as well as in our screenshots gallery. Once again, a higher resolution version has also been made available, and can also be found below and in the gallery.

The lack of news on gameplay and game modes less than a month away from the release of NBA 2K17 (outside of the confirmation of league expansion in MyLEAGUE and MyGM) is causing several basketball gamers to express their frustration on social media. With any luck, the daily release of these screenshots and the game’s presence at Gamescom 2016 this week is a sign that the floodgates will soon open. We’ll be sure to post bulletins about any developments as we hear about them.

In the meantime, what are your thoughts on the latest screenshot? Have your say in the comments section below, and join in the discussion here in the NBA 2K17 section of the NLSC Forum!

NBA 2K17 Screenshot: Kyrie Irving

NBA 2K17: Kyrie Irving

Today’s NBA 2K17 screenshot has been posted over on the official NBA 2K Instagram account, and it features Kyrie Irving. So far, it looks as though my prediction may be accurate, as Irving is another member of Team 2K. If my prediction is correct, the next few screenshots will likely feature Kevin Durant, Draymond Green, Andre Drummond, Jimmy Butler, and Karl-Anthony Towns.

You can check out the screenshot of Irving below, as well as in our NBA 2K17 gallery. Higher resolution screenshots of Kyrie Irving and Paul George have also been made available, so be sure to check them out as well.

Another interesting tidbit that’s come through today is 2K’s announcement that NBA 2K17 will be at this year’s Gamescom in Cologne, Germany.

This likely means that we’ll be seeing some over-the-shoulder footage popping up on YouTube. Of course, there’s only so much we can glean from such footage, and there’s always a chance it will be pulled after being flagged by Visual Concepts. Nevertheless, gameplay footage (of a kind) and impressions are likely on the way this week.

Any thoughts on the latest screenshots? Feel free to share them in the comments section below, as well as in this thread in the NLSC Forum.

NBA 2K17 Screenshot: Paul George

NBA 2K17: Paul George

2K have begun releasing screenshots for NBA 2K17 via their official Instagram account, beginning with cover player Paul George. According to this Tweet, new screenshots will be released every day this week at noon, Pacific Time.

This isn’t our first glimpse of Paul George in NBA 2K17, as he appeared in both the leaked and officially released screenshots of Team USA 2016. If I had to hazard a guess, I would suggest that the upcoming screenshots will feature the other members of Team 2K: Kyrie Irving, Kevin Durant, Draymond Green, Andre Drummond, Jimmy Butler, and Karl-Anthony Towns.

You can check out the screenshot of Paul George below, as well as here in our NBA 2K17 screenshots gallery. Got any thoughts on the new screenshot? Have your say in the comments section below, and join in the discussion here in the NLSC Forum. We’ll be sure to keep posting the new screenshots as they come in, so stay tuned!
