Our big three is down to a dynamic duo in this week’s episode of the NLSC Podcast but Ben and I aren’t taking the week off as we talk about the latest community news, speculate on some news coming out of EA Canada, discuss the latest happenings in the NBA and more. A more detailed overview of Episode #24 is as follows:

• The 2012/2013 roster updates for NBA Live 2005, NBA Live 06, NBA Live 07 and NBA Live 08 are finally out, and I couldn’t be more relieved.
• REDitor is getting closer to release and JaoSming has already been preparing video tutorials for all the basics.
• EA Canada are inviting gamers to playtest a “New NBA Concept”. We speculate on what it might be.

NBA Live 13 Rosters (Xbox 360) (Updated to v2.0)

EA Canada is apparently holding playtesting sessions on April 11th and 12th for a “New NBA Concept” and are inviting anyone in the Vancouver area to fill out a survey if they are interested in getting involved. There’s no further information on the concept at this time and anyone who participates will certainly be under a non-disclosure agreement, but if you live in the area and are interested in doing some playtesting and getting a glimpse behind the scenes, I’d encourage you to fill out the survey.

It will be interesting to see what this new concept turns out to be. It’s unlikely to be NBA Live, which is currently being developed at EA Tiburon, but could be something related to NBA Jam or NBA Street if not a new game entirely. Feel free to speculate in the comments below, as well as in this thread in the NLSC Forum.

Friday is upon us once again, so here is this week’s edition of The Friday Five! If this is your first time checking out The Friday Five, it is a feature that I post every Friday in which I talk about a variety of topics related to basketball video games, the real NBA and other areas of interest to our community, presenting my thoughts either as a list of five items or in Top 5 countdown format.

Being that we are a community of basketball video game enthusiasts, the way in which basketball video games can improve is naturally one of our favourite topics of discussion. While it’s important that we keep posting quality feedback on the games we play and innovative ideas for future titles, there are certain factors that unfortunately stand in the way of certain features being implemented, or at least make it difficult for developers to implement them exactly as envisioned. These are the Top 5 things that I feel are holding back basketball video games and posing a challenge to their developers.

I hope that everyone is enjoying the 2012/2013 roster updates for NBA Live 2005-08 that were released yesterday! Today’s file additions for NBA Live 08 are three jersey patches from TanyaMarkovA that were unfortunately released after the update was compiled and uploaded. However, they are 100% compatible with the rosters for 08 (and 07), so simply download them at the links below and overwrite the files after installing the 2012/2013 update.

Yes, the long wait is finally over! My 2012/2013 roster updates for NBA Live 2005, NBA Live 06, NBA Live 07 and NBA Live 08 are out now and can be downloaded at the links below. Please note that the rosters are accurate as of March 31st, 2013 and thus do not include a couple of minor transactions that have occurred in the past couple of days. There will be a follow-up release within the next couple of weeks or so and possibly a couple during the Playoffs. As for continuing the rosters beyond this season, I’m still undecided for the moment, but I’ll keep everyone informed of my decision and future arrangements.

Another new official roster update for NBA 2K13 has come through just 24 hours after the last one, with lineups updated through April 3rd, 2013. The latest roster also contains ratings updates for 14 players, while Thomas Robinson’s jersey number has finally been fixed. You can check out a rundown of all the changes here, courtesy of Rashidi.

The rosters will come through automatically as long as your PC, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 or Wii U is connected to the Internet. If you’re playing on PC and would like to update your game manually, you can pick up the latest version of our manual update pack, which contains the latest roster and online data files.

Here is another court conversion for NBA Live 06 by Dc311, namely fdlk0501’s 2012/2013 Portland Trail Blazers update. As with the version for NBA Live 2005, this should be the last standalone release before the new rosters come out. The rosters for NBA Live 08 and NBA Live 07 are finished and ready to release, the NBA Live 06 conversion is almost done and the NBA Live 2005 update should also be completed very soon, so I’m hoping to have them all out within the next day or so. Worst case scenario, the 2005 update may be out a day later than the rest but we’re definitely in the home stretch. For now, pick up the Blazers court at the link below!

Here is the latest release for NBA Live 2005 from Dc311, a conversion of fdlk0501’s 2012/2013 court update for the Portland Trail Blazers. This should be the last standalone release for NBA Live 2005 before my new roster update is out, which will of course contain all of the art updates released so far. A new official roster update for NBA 2K13 has gone live today, containing lineups that have been updated through April 2nd, 2013. The latest update is fairly minor, reflecting the latest injuries and placing players who have recovered from injuries back in their team’s lineup, but features no changes to ratings or other fixes.

As always, the rosters will come through automatically for the PC, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Wii U versions of the game, as long as your computer or console is connected to the Internet. PC users who would like to manually update their game can do so using this pack, which contains the latest roster and online data files.

We’ve had several new files for NBA 2K13 PC uploaded over the past day or so, so it’s time for a new batch of additions. The latest new and updated files include several more retro arena updates by retroman, a retro jersey pack for the Warriors by Pepis and two current arena updates by Mythbuster.

We’re well and truly in the final countdown to the release of the current roster updates for NBA Live 2005, NBA Live 06, NBA Live 07 and NBA Live 08. It will be a few more days until they are out but I’m basically down to polishing up some final details, making sure that everything is in place, finishing up the conversions and compiling all of the updates.

To put it in perspective, the NBA Live 08 roster is basically in a state where it could be released, but for the sake of quality control I’d like to spend a little more time updating some ratings and double-checking for errors. Depending on whether I run into any delays finishing up the conversions, I may stagger the releases with the update for NBA Live 08 coming out first and rest a day or so later, but at this time I’m looking at releasing all the updates at once sometime within the next few days.
