The Tuesday Triple x3: More NBA Video Game Commercials

This is The Tuesday Triple, where I attempt to break down random topics into three points, and maybe an “and one” if I need it. Similar to the established Friday Five by Andrew, the topics will be related to basketball video games and their communities as a whole.

Andrew featured his favorite non-gameplay NBA video game commercials in his latest Friday Five, I was a bit disappointed. I liked three of the seven he linked in his article, specifically the 2K14 next gen commercial with LeBron, and 2K11’s MJ’s Greatest Moments and Signature Moves. The rest, including Jordan showing off his many rings, just, I don’t know, didn’t resonate with me. So in response, I am going to triple the content of this Tuesday Triple with the following 9 great NBA video game commercials.

Dumb Mondays: Free to Wait in NBA Games?

This is Dumb Mondays, starting the workweek off with silly facts or some of my opinions and predictions that you may or may not find interesting. This week I am sharing a dumb opinion and will be looking for and responding to your comments throughout the week.

If you haven’t heard of Jim Sterling’s webshow the Jimquisition, I would highly recommend checking it out for his comments on the video game industry. A few months ago he covered the topic of what he dubbed ‘Free to Wait‘ games. These are the games we see a lot of on mobile platforms, where gameplay is halted due to a timer that you can pay real or virtual currencies to speed up. These mechanics have been legitimized simply because the base game is free, but what if this terrible thing started showing up in our annual NBA games?

The Friday Five: My 5 Favourite Basketball Video Game Commercials

The Friday Five

Welcome to this week’s edition of The Friday Five! This is a feature that I post every Friday in which I give my thoughts on a topic that’s related to basketball video games, the real NBA or another area of interest to our community, either as a list of five items or in the form of a Top 5 countdown.

I’m going with a lighter topic for The Friday Five this week, as I list my top five favourite basketball video game commercials. No doubt I’ll be back to covering topics with a little more substance sooner rather than later, but I thought it would be fun to take a look back at some memorable advertisements for NBA Live, NBA 2K and NBA Jam that got us talking about the games, or at the very least were entertaining to watch.

Just to clarify before I begin the countdown, I’m picking commercials and promotional spots here, as opposed to pure gameplay trailers. Including both in the one countdown would make for a long list and some very difficult choices, so picking my five favourite gameplay trailers is a topic for another day. With that said, here are my 5 Favourite Basketball Video Game Commercials!

No Dumb Monday or Tuesday Triple This Week

Due to dumb excuses, I was unable to make time to write my weekly articles. I was thinking of doing a late release but I think just waiting until next week is the better option.

To make up for the lack of articles, I guess I can mention one little Dumb Fact. With the hiring of bedwardsroy19, he joins Leftos as the latest NBA video game community member to be hired by 2K. bedwardsroy19 and Leftos, coincidently or not, are the only 2 community members I have had the opportunity to chat with (about NBA games) on my YouTube Channel; including the PC Meets PS3 series using bedwardsroy19’s rosters and many other videos with Leftos. So if you want a job at 2K, let me know when you want to talk NBA video games on my channel, heh.

So I hope you enjoyed that Dumb Fact, thanks for understanding the lack of articles this week. Feel free to check out past weeks’ entries using the Features dropdown above, have a great week!

The Friday Five: 5 Non-Sim Elements in Sim Basketball Games

The Friday Five

Welcome to this week’s edition of The Friday Five! This is a feature that I post every Friday in which I give my thoughts on a topic that’s related to basketball video games, the real NBA or another area of interest to our community, either as a list of five items or in the form of a Top 5 countdown.

After offering up a few opinions on the real NBA in last week’s edition of the Friday Five, this week I’m back to talking about basketball video games. Being a basketball gamer that prefers to see a healthy amount of realism in the annual titles, I thought I’d reflect on some of the non-sim elements that have found their way into sim basketball games over the years.

For the sim-oriented gamer, these elements can range from pet peeves and minor irritations to major distractions and issues that can severely affect one’s enjoyment of a game. However, as you’ll find out, at least one of the items on this list isn’t such an unwelcome idea. Without any further ado, here are 5 Non-Sim Elements in Sim Basketball Games.

The Tuesday Triple: My Favorite Hype Videos

This is The Tuesday Triple, where I attempt to break down random topics into three points, and maybe an “and one” if I need it. Similar to the established Friday Five by Andrew, the topics will be related to basketball video games and their communities as a whole.

Like I said in yesterday’s Dumb Monday, we are just a few weeks away from E3 which may give us our first looks at NBA 2K15 and NBA Live 15. While the information dropped may be lacking, both 2K and EA will be looking to kickstart their hype-trains for the upcoming games. In the spirit of whatever teaser or screenshot we might get, I am going to list off my top three short videos for NBA games that got me hyped up for the next game.

Dumb Mondays: NBA Video Games Are Unlucky

This is Dumb Mondays, starting the workweek off with silly facts or some of my opinions and predictions that you may or may not find interesting. This week I am sharing a dumb opinion and will be looking for and responding to your comments throughout the week.

The biggest video game convention of the year is just around the corner with E3 beginning in about three weeks. We might get a trailer, maybe an off-screen sneak peak, but usually the NBA video games at E3 get nothing more than some marketing buzzwords for features and a general idea of which direction this year’s game will be headed. Going into the second year of PlayStation 4 and Xbox One releases for NBA 2K15 and NBA Live 15 I am again hoping for more than basic information, but I’m not expecting anything special. It did give me a dumb idea though, maybe NBA video games are a bit unlucky in comparison to other video games.

The Friday Five: My Answers to 5 NBA Questions

The Friday Five

Welcome to this week’s edition of The Friday Five! This is a feature that I post every Friday in which I give my thoughts on a topic that’s related to basketball video games, the real NBA or another area of interest to our community, either as a list of five items or in the form of a Top 5 countdown.

More often than not, I’m writing about basketball video games in the Friday Five, which only stands to reason; the NLSC is a website dedicated to basketball gaming, after all. However, I like to write about the real NBA as well, and I haven’t done that for a few weeks now. As such, I figured it was about time for another NBA related article.

For this week’s Five, I’ve decided to take five topics related to the NBA that I’ve been thinking about recently, and pose them as questions. For each question, I’ve provided a short answer, along with a few of my thoughts on the matter. So, without any further ado, here are My Answers to 5 NBA Questions.

Over the next few weeks, we’ll be running a series of interviews with some of our most prominent storytellers, to get an insight into their experiences and discover why they enjoy maintaining story threads.

This week we’re talking to Lamrock, who has maintained several story threads for Dynasty Mode in NBA Live and Association mode in NBA 2K. Lamrock’s threads, which have featured a variety of teams in addition to his beloved Portland Trail Blazers, are well-known to other story thread enthusiasts for their in-depth coverage and professional articles, as well as blending in some humour.

The Tuesday Triple: Awesome Old Mixes

This is The Tuesday Triple, where I attempt to break down random topics into three points, and maybe an “and one” if I need it. Similar to the established Friday Five by Andrew, the topics will be related to basketball video games and their communities as a whole.

Just like the wishlists, mix articles go best in groups of 3. So accompanying articles on my favorite MomentousCeltic mixes and my favorite mixes that I made, I am going to list three of my favorite “old” mixes. “Old” is a weird way of classifying these videos because I know Shady00018 has older ones, but I do feel like there is this subjective line about three to four years ago before the big YouTubers got popular. It will work well enough for this article’s purposes at least, so enough writing, let’s watch some mixes.

Dumb Mondays: Fantasy Modes Are Ruining NBA Games

This is Dumb Mondays, starting the workweek off with silly facts or some of my opinions and predictions that you may or may not find interesting. This week I am sharing a dumb opinion and will be looking for and responding to your comments throughout the week.

I honestly do not know if Fantasy Mode is the correct classification for EA Sports’ Ultimate Team and NBA 2K’s MyTEAM, but that is what I am going with. Technically any mode that has user input beyond the current rosters can be considered a fantasy mode but I think that these card collecting (damn, that is a good way to describe it too) modes are ruining our yearly basketball video games.
