NBA 2K12 Patch Coming Before Christmas; Notes on Roster Updates

Kotaku’s Owen Good has posted an article discussing the impact that the end of the lockout will have on NBA 2K12, which includes some comments from producer Erick Boenisch and 2K Sports’ vice president for marketing Jason Argent. The article notably mentions that the big patch is expected to be out by Christmas and that roster updates will be more frequent this year, with rookies added as they sign with their teams.

Roster updates will come more frequently than they have in the past, Boenisch said, accounting for both the influx of rookie players and any changes in free agency or pre-season trades, which began on Wednesday. Instead of waiting until the final day before the regular season tip-off, Boenisch said the game will push roster updates as frequently as possible over the next three weeks. That kind of update comes totally through the 2K Sports server and isn’t subject to the kind of review Microsoft or Sony has for a game patch or title update. A patch still is coming before Dec. 25, Boenisch said, but he held off on committing to a specific date.

History suggests that while the roster updates should be made available simultaneously on all platforms that receive them, the big patch that’s coming for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of NBA 2K12 will not be available for the PC version until a later date, possibly January or February. 2K’s community manager Ronnie 2K has previously mentioned that the PC version will likely receive a combined update at some point after the consoles, but no timetable for its release has been made available as yet.
