State of Community Patches for NBA 2K12

As you may remember in my initial impressions of NBA 2K12, I mentioned that 2K changed the compression format of the iff files this year which did not allow for any of our editing tools to extract or import textures. Essentially this meant we couldn’t customize the look or feel of the game at all like we have in years past. Thankfully, only two days after 2K12’s release, our friends from ModdingWay released a tool that allows us to decompress the new 2K12 iff files. The following is a report on the status of patching NBA 2K12 PC.

New Poll: How do you rate NBA 2K12?

NBA 2K12 is out now in North American stores and will be out soon worldwide. I was able to pick up a copy yesterday so I’ll be posting my impressions in the not too distant future, but in the meantime you can have your say in our impressions thread and our new poll, which asks “How do you rate NBA 2K12?” Cast your vote now!

Our previous poll asked “What are you most looking forward to playing in NBA 2K12?” My Player was the most popular choice, garnering 44% of the vote, NBA’s Greatest came in second with 19%, and Association followed closely in third place with 18%. 8% were most looking forward to the new online Association while 7% expressed a preference for the My Player offshoot mode, Creating a Legend. NBA 2K12 Stuff: GameInformer Review, Chat with MJ, PlayStation Move Blog

With NBA 2K12 finally here, things are set to get really busy around these parts. Reviews, blogs and feature articles are pouring in, here are a few you may be interested in checking out.

First of all, ESPN.com’s Jon Robinson conducted an interview with cover player Michael Jordan, who spoke about his influence on the game, his satisfaction in how he is represented and his thoughts on the inclusion of the other legends involved in NBA’s Greatest. MJ notably expresses disappointment that Charles Barkley could not be included in the game.

GameInformer have posted their review of NBA 2K12, awarding it a score of 9.5/10 (the same score IGN gave the game) and dubbed it “the best basketball sim ever”. It does note issues with online play and bemoans the lockout’s effect on the game’s current rosters, but as the score would indicate it is an overwhelmingly positive review on the whole.

Finally, Ronnie 2K has also posted an entry over on the official PlayStation blog, detailing the PlayStation Move controls in NBA 2K12 and touting some of the key features of this year’s game. Discuss all of these articles in the NBA 2K12 section of the Forum and don’t forget to check out JaoSming’s impressions of the game right here on the main page, as well as share your opinions here.
