New Poll: Rate NBA 2K13

As most of you are no doubt aware, NBA 2K13 is already out in North America and the retail version should be available in international stores within the next 24 hours, with the digital download version currently slated for release on October 16th. A lot of people in our community already have their hands on the game, so our new poll is an obvious one: How do you rate NBA 2K13 so far? Cast your vote now and feel free to sound off in the comments, as well as in this thread in the Forum.

Our last poll asked “Which team are you most looking forward to playing with in NBA 2K13?” (originally NBA Live 13 and NBA 2K13, though that’s obviously no longer possible). The new look Los Angeles Lakers were the most popular choice with 34% of the vote, though 25% of voters preferred a team that wasn’t listed as one of the options; the Los Angeles Clippers, Utah Jazz and Detroit Pistons were some notable write-ins. 19% were looking forward to playing with the defending champion Miami Heat while only 8% are interested in using the runner-up Oklahoma City Thunder. The Brooklyn Nets also received 8% of the vote, with the final 6% going to the New York Knicks.

NBA 2K13 Modding Status

While the game itself is missing many of the hyped and advertised features, the PC community can rest easy knowing the game can still be modified fairly easily. The most used tool, the Mod Tool, is mostly compatible with 2K13’s iff files. It can decompress, import, and export from the files without issue, but does run into issues with Uniform and Cyberface files. Thankfully an alternative to the Mod Tool is able to edit those files properly.  You can read more on tool compatibility here.

Vl@d Zola Jr. has been hopping around the Forum providing updates on roster editing. Unfortunately the roster is a bit more encrypted than previous years, providing a major hurdle for hex editing, however Vl@d has figured parts of the roster out allowing him to edit some basic values.

I have been quite busy in the few hours I’ve had the game.  I went ahead and created the major patching resource which labels and identifies each subfile in popularly modded files. I also created my first batch of mods which can be found in this Forum thread. So far I’ve released an accurate Celtics court, watermark remover, NBA Live ability icons, updated crowd lighting, and a remover for the instant replay marker.

Be sure to check out the NBA 2K13 Releases Forum for all the community patches available, and if you’ve created something, be sure to add it to our Downloads Database.

NBA 2K13 PC Differences from Console Versions

While PC users are able to modify the game and enjoy a cheaper price than the console version of the game, it seems like each year there are various features or modes that disappear without prior warning from 2K Sports. Well, those who were able to purchase a disc version of the game (note that digital distribution is delayed two weeks) have found the main differences between the PC and Console versions of the game.

The PC Version of NBA 2K13 is currently missing the following features and modes included in the console versions of the game. Click Read More to see what they are.

NBA 2K13 Out Today

The wait for NBA 2K13 is over, as long as you’re in North America and not looking to get the PC version via digital download. Fans already have their hands on the game and after sinking their teeth into this year’s offering, have started posting their thoughts along with some videos. If you’ve got the game, we invite you to share your impressions and videos here in the NBA 2K13 section of the NLSC Forum. If you haven’t got the game yet, feel free to direct any questions to the folks who do in this thread. There’s plenty of discussion taking place right now, so get involved!

Now that the game is out, we’ve opened up the Patching Help & Requests, Releases & Previews and Tutorials subsections under the NBA 2K13 board. We’ve also added an NBA 2K13 section to our Downloads database, which includes a few new categories this year which we hope will make it easier to sort and find all the amazing updates that our community creates. For modders who’d like to get started straight away, JaoSming has already posted a resource containing information on tool compatibility between NBA 2K12 and NBA 2K13.

NBA 2K13 Dynasty TV Spot

NBA 2K13 is almost here, so 2K Sports have taken it upon themselves to release another trailer to make sure everyone is hyped for the release. The TV spot, titled “Dynasty”, is narrated by Michael Jordan and highlights various stars including cover players Blake Griffin, Kevin Durant and Derrick Rose.

You can watch the trailer below or check it out here on our YouTube channel if you can’t see the embedded video. Feel free to add your thoughts in the comments below as well as in this thread in the Forum, and be sure to join in all the discussion in our NBA 2K13 section as we get ready for the game to drop.

Digital Version of NBA 2K13 Delayed Until October 16th?

It appears as though anyone planning on getting the digital download version of NBA 2K13 on PC may have to wait longer than expected. NLSC Forum user ProStyle8 originally noticed the date for the downloadable version on Amazon had been changed to October 16th and Chris Manning later responded to a Tweet from solovoy confirming an October 16th release for digital copies.

This is certainly unfortunate news for anyone who was planning on getting a digital copy when the game drops in just a few hours. If we receive any new information we’ll be sure to post it, but in the meantime you can join in the discussion of the latest details regarding the delayed digital release here in the Forum.

Some Quick NBA 2K13 Demo Impressions Before The Game Drops

In about 24 hours, NBA 2K13 will be hitting store shelves in North America and made available to download from digital distributors (except Amazon, who have apparently delayed their digital release until October 16th). Before then, I just wanted to post a few quick impressions of the demo that came out last week, which I’ve played several games of on the Xbox 360.

I won’t go into too much detail as I plan on posting an in-depth review when I get my hands on the full version of the game, but here are some of my thoughts on the demo and the expectations it’s given me for the finished product.

NBA 2K13 Association & Online Association Notes

The latest post on the 2K Sports Community Update has provided us with some information on both the offline and online Association modes in NBA 2K13. Key improvements to the offline experience include the addition of Total Sim Control, the implementation of the new CBA and several fixes to logic and bugs, based on community feedback from NBA 2K12. Noteworthy changes to Online Association include the ability to customize sliders, manage the league’s schedule and modify game results.

This is certainly welcome news for Association players, as not much had been said about those modes in this year’s game. See below for a full breakdown of the changes, additions and improvements you can expect to see in both offline Association and Online Association. What’s your reaction to this mini Developer Insight? Sound off in the comments and join in the discussion here in the NBA 2K13 section of the NLSC Forum!

First NBA 2K13 Review (IGN)

IGN have posted the first review of the full version of NBA 2K13 in which they award it a score of 9.1, which interestingly is a lower score than they gave NBA 2K12 last year (9.5). This year’s game is touted as being the superior basketball simulation however, as reviewer Ryan McCaffrey proclaims it “the pinnacle of basketball gaming on this generation of consoles” and goes on to say that it’s “obviously the best hoops game out there, and it might even be the best sports game of all, period”.

Check out the full review for a rundown of the game and feel free to share your thoughts in the comments below, as well as in this thread in the NBA 2K13 section of the NLSC Forum.
