More Info on Signature Skills in NBA 2K13 coming at Pax Prime

The latest 2K Sports Weekly Update has revealed that NBA 2K13 will be represented at Pax Prime, which takes place from August 31st until September 2nd. During the event, we will apparently learn more about Signature Skills, complete with a rundown of all of the Skills that we’ll see represented in the game.

For the uninitiated, Signature Skills are a new feature this year which allow players a higher probability of performing specific actions. Players will be able to have up to five Signature Skills enabled at once and there are reportedly around 30 different Skills in total. What do you think of the concept? Yet Another NBA 2K13 Gamescom Video

The_Blueprint83 has discovered another video of NBA 2K13 captured at Gamescom, which runs for just under seven minutes. As with the other videos, it shows raw gameplay between the Miami Heat and Oklahoma City Thunder, complete with pre-game introductions and instant replays.

NBA 2K13 Achievements Reveal New Information

You can check out the Xbox 360 achievements for NBA 2K13 right here but the list also reveals some new information about the game. Of note, it appears My Player is being replaced with a MyCAREER mode which deals with a player’s fans, there will be some kind of currency in-game labeled VC after the developer’s studio (Visual Concepts), “Today” Associations, historic teams being available to play online and a MyTEAM mode, possibly a replacement for NBA 2K10 and 2K11’s popular online Crew Mode.

Chris Smoove’s NBA 2K13 Impressions – Part 2

Team Up member and NBA 2K commentator extraordinaire Chris Smoove has posted part two of his NBA 2K13 impressions, based on his time with the game at last week’s event. In the latest video, Chris talks about AI behaviour, new sliders, spacing, pick and rolls, dribbling off players’ feet, following shots, fouls and on-ball defense.

Second NBA 2K13 Developer Insight – Gameplay Part 2

2K Sports have released the second Developer Insight video for NBA 2K13, which gives us part two of a look into gameplay. In addition to giving us some more clips of the game in action, the developers further elaborate on the new right stick controls, making mention of the Shot Stick controls which can still be utilised by holding down the left trigger.

The video also talks about fixes to speed differentiation, touches on the new dynamic shot generator and what that means for collisions between offensive and defensive players, and player interactions. Detailed NBA 2K13 Team Up Impressions from vannwolfhawk and sma11z99

We’ve got some more impressions coming out of the NBA 2K13 Team Up event, providing us with more insight into this year’s game. First up is vannwolfhawk, who has posted a detailed account of his time with NBA 2K13 here over on Operation Sports. It’s a lengthy read but well worth it to get an idea of what’s happening with defense, speed differentiation, signature skills, passing and more. sma11z99 has provided a video recap of his Team Up experience that runs for over 27 minutes and provides a lot of good info and impressions. Key points include the speed issue from NBA 2K12 (now resolved), possible inclusion of the Olympics in My Player, improved defense, better spacing, better passing and a little more info on Scottie Pippen’s absence from the Dream Team roster. Another Hands-On NBA 2K13 Preview from Gamescom (Operation Sports)

Another Gamescom attendee, JerzeyReign, has posted some hands-on impressions of NBA 2K13 over at Operation Sports after spending around four hours playing the game. Among the positives he mentioned were player movement and control responsiveness, the new collision detection, on-ball and team defense, the new right stick controls and passing. He does however express some disappointment in the lack of contact animations, the commentary and the appearance of the crowd in the AmericanAirlines Arena.

More NBA 2K13 Footage from Gamescom

Plenty more footage of NBA 2K13 captured at Gamescom has emerged and is making the rounds today. The latest videos give us a much better look at the game, including several minutes of raw gameplay between the Miami Heat and Oklahoma City Thunder. The videos show a little bit of everything from the pre-game introduction to player collisions and even a couple of fast break attempts.

NBA 2K13 Team Up Impressions

The first NBA 2K Team Up event is underway, with the participants getting their hands on the game and having an opportunity to ask the development team questions. The official 2K Sports Twitter account has provided a list of all those taking part, which offers a convenient means of keeping up with their impressions as they Tweet them.

Kotaku article on Dream Team & 2012 Team USA in NBA 2K13; Pippen’s Absence Explained

Kotaku’s Owen Good has posted an article detailing the inclusion of the 1992 Dream Team and 2012 Team USA in NBA 2K13, which was revealed by 2K Sports earlier today. It includes several quotes from 2K Sports vice president of marketing Jason Argent, who comments on the addition of Charles Barkley and credits Jay Z’s influence in getting the two teams into the game. Argent notably reveals that Sir Charles will not be appearing on any other historical teams in the game.

Argent also touches briefly on Scottie Pippen’s absence from the 1992 Dream Team roster. While he would not go into the specifics, he confirmed that 2K Sports were unable to come to an agreement with Pippen regarding the use of his likeness in this year’s game, unfortunately leaving the Dream Team’s lineup incomplete.

NBA 2K13 Gameplay Footage from Gamescom

Some brief gameplay footage of NBA 2K13 captured at Gamescom has surfaced, featuring a game between the Miami Heat and Oklahoma City Thunder. The clip shows about 24 seconds of gameplay with the Heat on offense, culminating in Ray Allen finishing the play by knocking down a three pointer, followed by an instant replay.

NBA 2K13 Hands-On Preview from Gamescom (Operation Sports)

DaWolf, owner of NBAGames.de, had an opportunity to play an early build of NBA 2K13 at Gamescom and has posted some detailed hands-on impressions here over on Operation Sports. He noted that the game felt a lot like NBA 2K12 but with significant improvements to defensive movement, on-ball defense, the collision system and overall smoothness. He did however express some disappointment in jumpshots and rim physics.
