NBA 2K13 Announcement Coming Tomorrow

After previously hinting at a big announcement for NBA 2K13 that he anticipates will impress hardcore fans, 2K Sports’ Community Manager Ronnie 2K has posted a note on his Facebook page revealing that the announcement will be coming tomorrow. He has also confirmed via a Tweet that the big announcement is not the cover player for this year’s game.

What do you think the announcement might be? Leave a comment below with your thoughts and join in the discussion here in the NBA 2K13 section of the NLSC Forum.

Take-Two Confirms NBA 2K13 Release Date, Platforms

Take-Two Interactive has confirmed the previously reported release date for NBA 2K13, as well as the platforms it will be available on. The game will indeed hit stores on October 2nd 2012 and will be released for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii, PlayStation Portable and PC. This is obviously excellent news for the growing NBA 2K modding community and should hopefully allay any lingering concerns about the future of the series on PC.

EA Sports have not yet confirmed the release date for NBA Live 13, however based on previous years it is highly likely that it will be coming out the same day. The platforms that NBA Live 13 will be available on also remain unconfirmed at this time, with some pre-order listings suggesting versions for the PC and Wii along with the expected Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 releases, while others only have 360 and PS3 listings. We hope to have more info soon, needless to say many of us here at the NLSC are hoping that this is the year that the series returns to the PC platform.

2K Sports inviting feedback for NBA 2K13 via Twitter

2K Sports are currently seeking fan suggestions for NBA 2K13 via Twitter. Tweets by community manager Ronnie 2K and the official 2K Sports Twitter account are encouraging users to send in their ideas for this year’s game, using the hashtag #IdeasforNBA2K13.

While this is obviously designed to drum up hype for NBA 2K13 by getting it to trend on Twitter months out from its release, it does present a good opportunity to send constructive feedback in to the game’s producers. Speaking of initiatives to improve NBA 2K, don’t forget about the SportsGaming blog’s grass roots movement to open up an ongoing dialogue with the NBA 2K developers.!/Ronnie2K/status/203231476916031490!/2KSports/status/203232336660279296

If you’re on Twitter and have some ideas for NBA 2K13, be sure to hit them up. While you’re there, remember you can follow us @TheNLSC.

New Poll: The Influence of Cover Players

With news on NBA Live 13 and NBA 2K13 likely right around the corner, speculating on the possible cover players for each game has been a popular topic in the NLSC Forum. Does the choice of cover player influence your decision to buy a game, though? Cast your vote in our new poll!

Our previous poll asked “Do you mostly play basketball video games online or offline?” It seems an overwhelming number of gamers in the community still favour offline modes such as Dynasty, Association and My Player, as “Mostly offline” garnered 83% of the vote. In contrast, just 9% indicated that they mostly play basketball video games online, while a final 8% spend an equal amount of time playing online and offline modes.

2K GameChangers Community Initiative (SportsGaming)

The SportsGaming blog is starting an initiative to encourage 2K Sports to adopt a similar approach to EA’s Game Changers and the NBA Live Advisory Council, with a view to improving 2K’s NBA sim games beginning with NBA 2K13. Essentially, it is a grass roots movement to open a dialogue with the NBA 2K development team and provide them with quality feedback, similar to what we’ve been able to do in the past with EA Sports and our NBA Live Wishlists.

Anyone interested in being a part of the initiative and providing 2K Sports with constructive feedback is invited to email Bruce Harmon at; you can also follow him here on Twitter.

NBA 2K13 Motion Capture Talent; Forum Section Launched

Not many details on NBA 2K13 have been revealed or hinted at as yet aside from community manager Ronnie 2K looking to recruit various celebrities for an as yet unnamed NBA 2K related initiative, as well as Justin Bieber’s inclusion in the game. As with NBA Live 13, we probably won’t be getting a whole lot of information until E3 next month.

However, yesterday Ronnie Tweeted an interesting tidbit, revealing that Dion Waiters and Austin Rivers (son of former NBA player and current Celtics head coach Doc Rivers) have provided motion capture for NBA 2K13.

With NBA 2K13 news likely to start coming out in the near future and plenty of fun to be had speculating on the game and discussing what we’d like to see, we’ve gone ahead and added an NBA 2K13 section to the NLSC Forum. Join in the discussion today!

What basketball gamers can look forward to in 2012

2012 is upon us and before we know it, we’ll be entering a new season of previews for this year’s basketball video games. However, before those previews begin to come out and the games themselves eventually drop in October, there’ll be official updates for NBA 2K12 and NBA Jam: On Fire Edition, along with plenty of community-made mods released for the PC versions of NBA 2K and NBA Live.

Join me as I take a look at some of the things basketball gamers have to look forward to in 2012!
