We’re at midcourt, and the ball is about to go up…it’s Monday Tip-Off! Join me as I begin the week here at the NLSC with my opinions and commentary on basketball gaming topics, as well as tales of the fun I’ve been having on the virtual hardwood. This week, I’m tipping things off with some thoughts on picking up where I left off in Year 7 of my NBA 2K14 MyCAREER.

After wrapping up my sixth season in NBA 2K14 MyCAREER and playing the first couple of games in Year 7, I decided to take a break. It’s not that I wasn’t enjoying the journey anymore, but I felt it was time for a change. And so, I put that game on ice, with the intention of picking it up whenever I felt like it. Since then however, other basketball gaming activities have held my attention. It wasn’t until Dee and I were discussing our virtual hardwood habits so far in 2026 on the NLSC Podcast a couple of weeks ago that I thought about just how long it’s been since I fired up that save file.

To that point, my NBA 2K14 MyCAREER has been on the bench since September 2025. In other words, almost eight months now! I was surprised when I checked the date, though it speaks to how quickly the days, months, and indeed years fly by. I certainly don’t regret taking a break as I’m enjoying what I’ve been playing all year, but I have been thinking about bringing my NBA 2K14 MyCAREER back into the rotation. I’ll be alternating between it and other games more frequently than before, as it’s already been a long and satisfying journey, and I don’t want to shelve the titles I’ve been enjoying. Still, Year 7 features an intriguing scenario that’s drawing me back.

If you’ve been keeping track of his release topic in our NBA 2K14 Modding Forum, you’ll know that Shamgod has been doing some amazing work. To that end, I’d like to spotlight a couple of his releases, starting out with the latest version of his 2026 season NBA on NBC scoreboard for NBA 2K14.

Shamgod has been updating his NBA on NBC scoreboard for NBA 2K14 as more teams have appeared on the network, and their scoreboard logos subsequently revealed. As of V7 of the scoreboard, only the New Orleans Pelicans are using a fictional placeholder. The mod also adds the NBA on NBC logo to the corner of the screen, enhancing the authentic presentation. On the subject of scoreboards, Shamgod has also gone retro with some of his releases. That includes a 2001 Fox Sports Network scoreboard, which can pair nicely with one of the 2001 season roster mods you’ll find elsewhere. You can pick up that FSN scoreboard here.

This is Wayback Wednesday, your midweek blast from the past! From retrospectives of basketball games and their interesting features, to republished articles and looking at NBA history through the lens of the virtual hardwood, Wednesdays at the NLSC are for going back in time. This week, I’m taking a look back at attending a midnight launch for the PlayStation 4 here in Australia, and my first impressions of the console.

My Facebook Memories reminded me that in the early hours of November 29th 2013, I returned from a midnight launch of the PlayStation 4 at a retailer here in Australia. The console had launched in North America a couple of weeks earlier, so I’d already heard others share their initial impressions of NBA Live 14 and NBA 2K14. Needless to say, I had some concerns – especially about the former – but I tried to keep an open mind. After all, I wanted to be excited about the new generation of basketball gaming that I’d be experiencing from Day One; or near enough, anyway.

That first experience with the PlayStation 4 and two new next generation basketball video games – as well as a third title that I picked up – is certainly interesting for me to reflect upon. Suffice it to say, my feelings towards the console and at least one of those releases have changed over the years. I still have some mixed thoughts about the eighth generation, though to date I like it a lot more than the ninth! With PlayStation celebrating its 30th Anniversary, and November 29th marking 12 years since the Australian launch of the PlayStation 4, it’s a good time to look back…way back…

V3.9 of Shamgod’s 2016 roster for NBA 2K14 PC is now available! In case you’re unfamiliar with the project, it not only adds 2016 rosters to NBA 2K14, but aims to replicate the presentation and aesthetic of NBA 2K16. It also strives for authenticity in terms of player performance, shoes, the selection of Hardwood Classic jerseys, and more.

Some of the key updates in V3.9 include updated player roles, new and updated shoes and jerseys, and fixed accessories. There are also two additional rosters: one for use in Blacktop, and one that’s compatible with MyCAREER. Around 60 unneeded players have been pruned from the Free Agents, while 29 new Free Agents have been added. Two global updates are available, and both have been updated in the latest release.

As previously noted, Shamgod has been working on some other great mods for NBA 2K14, which you can find here.
