As you probably know by now, Dee and I are always uploading videos of our basketball gaming sessions, whether we’re playing solo, co-op, or Dee is hitting the virtual hardwood with his brothers. Our latest highlights feature NBA 2K14 MyCAREER on PlayStation 4, and NBA 2K7 for PlayStation 3.

Dee recently hosted our co-op session of NBA 2K7 over Parsec, in which we took on the Minnesota Timberwolves with the Boston Celtics. They’re a couple of underdog teams on the verge of making a blockbuster deal, and it turned into a competitive game with some spectacular moments. As you’d imagine, it was very tempting to take it to the hoop with Gerald Green as often as possible!

Meanwhile, I’ve reached the Playoffs in Year 6 of my ongoing NBA 2K14 MyCAREER, so I’ve put together the best highlights from Games 72-82. I’ll be posting highlight reels from each round of the 2019 Playoffs, before returning to the 10-game reels for the 2020 regular season. You can also follow along with the results of my NBA 2K14 MyCAREER in my story topic in the Forum.

Welcome to another edition of The Friday Five! Every Friday I cover a topic related to basketball gaming, either as a list of five items, or a Top 5 countdown. The topics for these lists and countdowns include everything from fun facts and recollections to commentary and critique. This week’s Five is a list of five real events that I wish had happened during the course of my NBA 2K14 MyCAREER.

My offline MyCAREER in NBA 2K14 continues to be a blast. I’m sure that much is obvious from the fact that I’m in my sixth season, to say nothing of how often I’ve talked about it in articles and on our podcast! In any case, it’s been a fun ride so far, and I’m eager to continue the journey. For the most part, there isn’t much that I’d change. Sure, it’s unfortunate that my bid to go 82-0 was thwarted once again in Year 6, but the elusiveness of that goal is now part of the story. As much as I like realism, the unlikely results and fictional moves have made my virtual career enjoyable.

Of course, it’s also been entertaining to see my game mimic real life in unexpected ways, such as LeBron James joining the Los Angeles Lakers (albeit much earlier in this case). This combination of real life and fiction forms the alternate realities that make multi-season play in career and franchise modes so fun and rewarding. All the same, I’d be lying if I said there weren’t any real events that I would’ve liked to have seen come to pass in my NBA 2K14 MyCAREER. Again, I do enjoy the fictional and unusual outcomes as well, but both the on-court experience and the narrative of my NBA 2K14 MyCAREER would’ve benefitted from reflecting a handful of real events.

We’re at midcourt, and the ball is about to go up…it’s Monday Tip-Off! Join me as I begin the week here at the NLSC with my opinions and commentary on basketball gaming topics, as well as tales of the fun I’ve been having on the virtual hardwood. This week, I’m tipping things off with a look at the curious journey of Terry Hanson so far in my NBA 2K14 MyCAREER.

There are many reasons why I remain hooked on NBA 2K14 MyCAREER into my sixth season and counting. First and foremost, I love the on-court experience, so it’s fun keeping the game in my rotation. Second, it’s been satisfying to see my career stats accumulate, motivating me to shoot for all-time records as I assemble a truly Hall of Fame resume. And then, there’s Terry Hanson, the generated rookie that came along in my third season and soon became a Virtual Hardwood Legend. At this point, I’m as invested in his career as much as my own!

So far, it’s been a curious journey for Terry Hanson. Generated players invite us to use our imagination, which usually involves comparisons to real NBA players. With that in mind, Terry Hanson is a crafty scorer with modest defensive numbers; kind of like Mark Aguirre, only a far superior athlete, and a better and more prolific three-point shooter. To that point though, it’d be more accurate to compare aspects of his game to multiple players. The same goes for his career path, which has certainly had a few unusual twists and turns. As such, I’m trying – and indeed, struggling – to name a single player whose career closely resembles the curious journey of Terry Hanson.

Although I’ve been mixing things up with NBA Live 18 and a couple of other titles, some familiar favourites remain in the rotation. That includes continuing to play my way through Year 6 in NBA 2K14 MyCAREER, and to that end, I’ve put together the highlights from Games 61-71!

Unfortunately, the virtual Philadelphia 76ers’ bid to go 82-0 will have to wait until next season, as the Memphis Grizzlies snapped our winning streak at 66 games. As I mentioned on the NLSC Podcast, I admittedly messed around too much and failed to turn on the jets in the fourth quarter of that game, blowing the opportunity for an undefeated season. Nevertheless, this stretch of games produced some more entertaining highlights, and NBA 2K14 MyCAREER continues to be a blast. Playing through to the current day remains a long-term goal, so we’ll see if I can reach 2025 in 2025.

While previous compilations have covered 10-game stretches, with an 82-game schedule, I decided that the final two reels for the regular season will include 11 games apiece. Once the Playoffs begin, I’ll post highlight reels at the end of each round. Obviously, my intention is to go all the way to the NBA Finals and capture title number six, so if all goes well, there’ll be four reels from the 2019 Playoffs. After that, it’ll be on to Year 7!

It’s time for another NLSC YouTube roundup! As you may have seen, for Halloween I put together a new Tales from the Virtual Hardwood video, diving into an urban legend involving Jason Collier and NBA Live 06. On top of that, Dee and I have also been uploading highlights from our co-op and individual gaming sessions, featuring NBA 2K25, NBA Live 2000, and other titles.

First of all, there’s a spectacular reel of highlights from Dee and his brother’s ongoing Legends MyNBA in NBA 2K25. The latest reel covers Games 11 through 20, with the likes of Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, Wilt Chamberlain, Julius Erving, Larry Bird, Kobe Bryant, and Clyde Drexler all doing what they do best.

Dee also put together a reel of the best moments from our game of NBA Live 2000, in which we took on the Indiana Pacers with the Detroit Pistons. It was an unusual game that wasn’t as successful as a majority of our other co-op sessions, but it reminded us of the teams’ interesting lineups, and the brilliance of NBA Live 2000 PC. In case you missed it, we discussed the game in Episode #550 of the NLSC Podcast.

I usually post bulletins whenever I upload a new entry in the NBA 2K14 Retro Series, but I neglected to do so for the latest one. That is of course a 1986 showdown between the rival Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Lakers, which ended in dramatic fashion. I’ve already played a few other retro matchups that will be uploaded in the near future.

Finally, Dee and I connected this past week to play NBA 2K13 using the 1996 URB roster. We opted to take on the Atlanta Hawks with the Orlando Magic, and it was a blast playing with young Shaq and Penny! Stay tuned for our discussion of that session in the next NLSC Podcast.

It’s time for another NLSC YouTube channel roundup! In case you’ve missed them, here’s an opportunity to catch up on the latest virtual hardwood highlights from Dee and myself, featuring NBA 2K25, NBA Live 06, and other games that have been in our rotation as of late.

As we’ve discussed on the NLSC Podcast, Dee has been playing a ton of NBA 2K25 since it was released, and sharing the highlights on our channel. His most recent uploads include our co-op session taking on the Orlando Magic with the Chicago Bulls using LeBron Era rosters, and head-to-head games against his brother, namely Clippers vs. Timberwolves, Cavaliers vs. Thunder, and a WNBA showdown between the Fever and Sun. He’s also shared a fantastic 12-minute highlight reel from the first ten games in their Legends season.

Dee also put together a highlight reel from our playtesting session with a work-in-progress ABA mod for NBA Live 06. As for me, on Friday I posted a virtual hardwood tribute to the recently retired Derrick Rose. That video features some of my favourite plays using D-Rose in NBA Live 09, NBA Live 10, NBA Live 16, and NBA 2K14.

As we tip off August, it’s an excellent opportunity to get caught up on some of the latest uploads to the NLSC YouTube channel! As always, Dee and I have been playing a variety of basketball video games both separately and co-operatively, and sharing highlights from those sessions. Here are a few of our highlight reels that went up in late July.

Following on from our session with NBA 2K10 using 1997 season rosters, we rolled back the clock to 1992 with another fantastic roster mod. This time, we took on the New Jersey Nets with the Portland Trail Blazers, which turned into a spectacular dunking exhibition by Clyde Drexler and Jerome Kersey! Once again, we were reminded of how NBA 2K10 is an overlooked gem.

Our next Parsec session saw us connect to play NBA Live 2000, taking on the Indiana Pacers with the New York Knicks. As we discussed in Episode #538 of the NLSC Podcast, it was a game that reminded us of just how amazing NBA Live 2000 PC was (and still is), and led to some interesting comparisons to the original NBA 2K, which we played right afterwards.

Year 6 of my NBA 2K14 PS4 MyCAREER continues, as I’m past the All-Star break and heading towards the 2019 Playoffs. To that end, I compiled the highlights from Games 51-60. As always, I’m not just spotlighting highlights that I produced with my MyPLAYER, but also some of the CPU’s best moments as well.

Dee shared an action-packed highlight reel from NBA 2K13 PC, using 2001 rosters to stage a showdown between the Sacramento Kings and Indiana Pacers. As you’ll see, Dee produced some extremely authentic highlights using that young Kings team, led by Chris Webber and Jason Williams.

Finally, we connected for a long session with NBA Street Vol. 2, ahead of discussing The Run: Got Next on this week’s podcast. It was a reminder of why it’s one of the most popular basketball video games of all time, and indeed, many gamers’ pick for the best hoops title we’ve ever seen.

The NBA Finals may be over, putting a bow on the 2024 season with the Boston Celtics winning their eighteenth championship, but that doesn’t mean we can’t still enjoy some Playoff action on the virtual hardwood! To that point, the NBA 2K14 Retro Series is back with a new instalment, featuring a showdown between the 1996 Chicago Bulls and Seattle SuperSonics.

More specifically, this matchup is inspired by Game 3 of the 1996 NBA Finals. The Bulls had taken care of business at home, going up 2-0 after returning to the Finals for the first time since 1993. Chicago’s big three of Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen, and Dennis Rodman looked to go up 3-0 as the series shifted to Seattle, but Shawn Kemp, Gary Payton, and the rest of the Sonics weren’t content to be a footnote in the Bulls’ return to glory. This is obviously a very nostalgic showdown for me, and it’s still a blast to play in video games to this day. Check out how my version of Game 3 of the 1996 NBA Finals went down, and look out for a classic commercial for one of my all-time favourite basketball video games at halftime!
