Fifth NBA 2K14 Patch Out Now on Xbox One

According to a Tweet by 2K Community Manager LD2K, the fifth patch for NBA 2K14 is now available for the Xbox One version of the game, and will come through automatically as long as your console has an active Internet connection. The patch for the PlayStation 4 version of NBA 2K14 was pushed through earlier today.

As mentioned in the earlier bulletin, the patch is around 2.4 GB in size and addresses a few issues with MyGM, MyCAREER, and The Park. A reminder that 2K has also released a new Locker Code as a bonus gift: #BOXOFCHOCOLATES. According to Ronnie 2K, the code will be active for the remainder of the 2014 Conference Finals.

Feel free to add your thoughts on the patch in the comments below, or join in the discussion here in the NBA 2K14 section of the NLSC Forum.

Fifth NBA 2K14 Patch for PS4 is Available, Xbox One Soon

The fifth patch for NBA 2K14 is now available for PS4 users. Weighing in at a hefty 2.4 gigabytes the patch mostly focuses on crash/bug fixes, but there are a couple of relatively major changes. You are no longer allowed to have the same player of different years in the same MyTEAM lineup (so no multiple MJs), MyCAREER default quarter length was changed back to 6 and the On-Court Coach signature skill should work now for that mode. Other fixes are mostly focused on The Park, so if you haven’t checked out that mode due to the many issues that plagued it, now might be the time.

As a bonus, the locker code #BOXOFCHOCOLATES for a random item was released, so after you update your game you can enter that as a thank you for waiting to download the patch. Check out the full patch notes by hitting Read More, or in the Forum Thread for next gen patch updates.

NBA Street 2K14 Mod Released

Another PC simulation basketball game, another streetball mod created by myself. It seems like clockwork but I have been distracted in my street mod endeavors by trying to get too fancy or taking on too much work to be worth it. So I have gone back to the basics and focused on gameplay edits (inspired by NCAA and NBA Jam artist bigh0rt) to drastically change the simulation gameplay to a 3 chucking, slam dunking, over dribbling, and no help defense playing game of NBA 2K14. On top of that, any player I found that had a nickname in Basketball-Reference‘s database got a 20% boost in ratings, because street. To get it out to you as soon as possible I used last year’s mod’s street uniforms and premade street courts. Once RED MC’s iff editing is released, I will update the download with already completed updates to the courts and 3 new ones, including a conversion of 2K11’s Blacktop Mode court.

I hope you enjoy the mod as much as I have. You can get it from the NLSC Downloads Database and be sure to check the Forum Thread for additional previews and news. Hit read more to see some of the gameplay videos I have uploaded to my YouTube Channel, showcasing the different courts and gameplay changes.

The Tuesday Triple: My Favorite Hype Videos

This is The Tuesday Triple, where I attempt to break down random topics into three points, and maybe an “and one” if I need it. Similar to the established Friday Five by Andrew, the topics will be related to basketball video games and their communities as a whole.

Like I said in yesterday’s Dumb Monday, we are just a few weeks away from E3 which may give us our first looks at NBA 2K15 and NBA Live 15. While the information dropped may be lacking, both 2K and EA will be looking to kickstart their hype-trains for the upcoming games. In the spirit of whatever teaser or screenshot we might get, I am going to list off my top three short videos for NBA games that got me hyped up for the next game.

  • EA Sports are selecting the NBA Live 14 Gamer of the Year. Unfortunately, we’re not in the running.
  • Speaking of contests, we’ve drawn a winner in our latest NBA 2K14 PC giveaway. More giveaways will be coming soon!
  • The fifth patch for NBA 2K14 on PS4/X1 should be dropping any day now. Still no release notes as yet.
  • bigh0rt continues to do some great work with NBA JAM 2K14 for NBA 2K14 PC. The newest addition? The Meme Team!
  • Vlad has provided a quick update on the next big release for RED MC. JaoSming should have more details for us when he’s back on the show.
  • NBA Jam on Android received another update. Unfortunately, the rosters weren’t touched this time around.
  • Servers are being shut down for a bunch of EA games. We discuss server shutdowns and what it could mean for games like NBA Live 14 and NBA 2K14, which rely heavily on online components.
  • Moving on to the NBA Playoffs, we talk about the chances of the Brooklyn Nets and Portland Trail Blazers, who are facing 3-1 deficits to the Miami Heat and San Antonio Spurs respectively.
  • The Indiana Pacers were terrible in Game 5 of their series against the Washington Wizards. Will there be an upset after all?
  • Back in the West, the series between the Oklahoma City Thunder and Los Angeles Clippers continues to be exciting, but not without controversy.
  • We finish up this week’s episode with a quick mention of some recent coaching changes.

Dumb Mondays: Fantasy Modes Are Ruining NBA Games

This is Dumb Mondays, starting the workweek off with silly facts or some of my opinions and predictions that you may or may not find interesting. This week I am sharing a dumb opinion and will be looking for and responding to your comments throughout the week.

I honestly do not know if Fantasy Mode is the correct classification for EA Sports’ Ultimate Team and NBA 2K’s MyTEAM, but that is what I am going with. Technically any mode that has user input beyond the current rosters can be considered a fantasy mode but I think that these card collecting (damn, that is a good way to describe it too) modes are ruining our yearly basketball video games.

NLSC Podcast – Episode #77

We may be at least a few weeks away from the NBA video game preview season, but we do actually have some news on this year’s games to discuss in Episode #77 of the NLSC Podcast. Join Arcane, JaoSming, and myself as we talk NBA Live 15 and NBA 2K15, NBA Live 14 and NBA 2K14, modding developments, and of course, the 2014 NBA Playoffs.

  • NBA Live 15 has been confirmed, but unfortunately, it’s console only. We briefly mourn that fact, but pledge to campaign on behalf of the PC platform if the opportunity arises.
  • Similarly, NBA 2K15 is already available to pre-order, on the same platforms as last year. The price of the PC version leads us to speculate on a next gen port.
  • Kevin Durant has been confirmed as the cover player for NBA 2K15, the same day he was named the NBA’s Most Valuable Player. With NBA Live 15’s cover player still yet to be announced, we throw out a couple of suggestions.
  • Speaking of this year’s games, we also talk about some of the predictions that JaoSming made in his most recent Dumb Mondays feature.
  • A second Steam key for NBA 2K14 PC is up for grabs. Get your entries in before next week’s show!
  • In a quick modding round-up, JaoSming has some news on RED MC, and bigh0rt gets some more love for the NBA JAM 2K14 mod.
  • Moving on to this week’s NBA discussion, we give our thoughts on the latest award winners to be announced.
  • We’re coming off one of the most exciting first rounds in NBA Playoffs history. Will the second round be just as entertaining?
  • A couple of other recent stories are discussed, including a possible return to Toronto for Vince Carter, and the firing of Mark Jackson.
  • We wrap up the show with a couple of quick mailbag questions.
