NBA 2K15 News Roundup

Although the biggest NBA 2K15 related news in the past 24 hours as far as our community is concerned is the reveal that the PC version will be a fully featured port of the PlayStation 4/Xbox One release, there are some other developments that I’d like to quickly recap.

For those who missed it, NBA 2K15’s soundtrack – curated by Pharrell – has been revealed, and is available to listen to on Spotify. You can also check out the complete track list below.

We also have our first screenshot of the PC version, featuring cover player Kevin Durant! You can check that out below, as well as in our NBA 2K15 Screenshots gallery.

Finally, a handful of off-screen gameplay videos have come out of Gamescom 2014, which I’ve embedded below as well. Be sure to join in all of the latest discussion in the NBA 2K15 section of the NLSC Forum!

Dumb Monday: MyDREAM

This is Dumb Mondays, starting the workweek off with silly facts or some of my opinions and predictions that you may or may not find interesting. This week I am sharing a dumb opinion of mine and will be looking for and responding to your comments throughout the week.

In case you missed it, MyLEAGUE for the next gen versions of NBA 2K15 was detailed this week. I think Steve over at OperationSports summed it up best by calling it Association “on steroids”. Essentially MyLEAGUE is an NBA sandbox. We can customize many aspects to our liking with no VC to spend or objectives to meet other than our own. On top of the customization features we, for the first time, get to change core AI aspects of mode with trades and other logic. And on top of that we get new features like the detailed “injuries 2.0” and gameplans, which will also affect MyGM. But at its core there is that customization. That customization is why I may as well call this mode MyDREAM.

NBA 2K15’s MyLEAGUE Detailed

Franchise modes are the only modes I generally play that aren’t exhibition modes. Seeing the details listed in OperationSports‘ reveal of NBA 2K15’s next-gen league sandbox mode made my mouth drop. We got the return of missing features from NBA 2K14 like create-a-player and local saves, along with brand new sliders and customization options to either help the authenticity of your MyLEAGUE or turn it into a mad house. Difficulty options galore from trades to salary caps to various A.I. settings that aren’t even modable on PC.

The biggest addition has to be the “Injuries 2.0” system, splitting players into 16 parts that can be independently fatigued, injured, and recovered from. Detailed to the point where a slightly injured or worn out player may wear accessories to help an injured body part. Even rookies can have these injuries, and have them scoutable, making the risks of Embiid and Noel something to consider in NBA 2K15.

Best of all, some of these features will transfer to the completely separate MyGM mode. Worst of all, OS stated this is only for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of NBA 2K15. At least there are no VC purchases to be made in this mode. Check out the full details by checking the article on OS. Discuss in the Forums or in the comments below.

NBA 2K15 PS4/X1 Teaser Video

As promised earlier in the week, NBA 2K15 cover player Kevin Durant has Tweeted out an Instagram video, providing a glimpse of NBA 2K15. In the video, Durant is shown performing a between the legs dribble, before taking the ball to the hoop and dunking on Andre Iguodala.

This is our first look at the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One version of NBA 2K15, following the earlier announcement of Crew Mode for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 version of the game, which was also accompanied by a few screenshots. As yet, we don’t know which version the PC platform will be receiving.

A full trailer is expected to be out soon, so be on the lookout. In the meantime, feel free to share your thoughts in the comments below, as well as here in the NBA 2K15 section of the NLSC Forum.

NLSC Podcast – Episode #89

NLSC Podcast Logo

It’s that time of the week again, so I invite you to join JaoSming and myself for Episode #89 of the NLSC Podcast! Tune in for discussion of the latest NBA Live 15 screenshot, the return of Crew Mode in NBA 2K15, a few new modding developments, and some NBA offseason tidbits.

  • We got a glimpse of the new official NBA basketball in NBA Live 15. Does JaoSming like it more than NBA Live 14’s rock?
  • The actual Crew Mode that gamers loved and missed will be returning in NBA 2K15 on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Are we excited about that?
  • Footage of NBA 2K15 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One might be coming by the end of the week. With it being an Instagram video, we’re trying to keep our expectations low.
  • In modding news this week: JaoSming’s latest project, a new development by TGsoGood, and more good stuff with the Ultimate Base Roster.
  • We reflect on the latest Beat Jao challenge and last week’s Friday Five.
  • Former WNBA star Becky Hammon has been hired by the San Antonio Spurs as a full-time assistant coach, breaking down another barrier in the NBA.
  • Derrick Rose has had a fine showing in the Team USA scrimmages. The big news coming out last week however is Paul George’s gruesome injury…yikes.
  • We discuss the possibility of stars no longer competing in non-NBA events, and get nostalgic for days gone by.
  • It seems that Kevin Love is heading to Cleveland, which is making interviews for Andrew Wiggins somewhat awkward.
  • Free agent talk, the retirement of Dick Bavetta, and a few other offseason topics are covered.
  • We close with a short discussion of Brian Scalabrine’s essay. Admittedly, our words cannot do it justice.

Crew Mode Returns for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360

Not last year’s Crew Mode seen on these consoles, but the NBA 2K11 version of Crew Mode will be returning to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of NBA 2K15. Indoors, 5 on 5, playbooks, referees, create a team jerseys and courts. There will also be the 3 on 3 Blacktop version as well, but you can start the full game version of Crew Mode with only 3 players on your team.

What has been very interesting is Ronnie2K and LD2K only stating that this is for “old gen” PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. With the $60 price tag remaining for the PC version on many North American retailers, it remains to be seen what is going on with PC. For certain, it sounds like Crew Mode will not be on PC NBA 2K15.

Face Scanning for NBA 2K15 Taking Place During Las Vegas Summer League

Dime Magazine has posted an article talking about the NBA 2K15 face scanning sessions that Visual Concepts are conducting at the Las Vegas Summer League. 2K are using the summer league as an opportunity to get all the rookie faces into the game, as well as scan any other players whose likeness they haven’t previously captured.

From all accounts, the process is the same as the one being used by EA Sports for NBA Live 15. EA has also been using the summer league as an opportunity to scan this year’s rookie crop.

What are your expectations for NBA 2K15? Sound off in the comments below, and add your thoughts here in the Forum.

Countdown to NBA Live 15 & NBA 2K15 in the NLSC Forum

NLSC Forum

There’s less than 100 days until the release of NBA Live 15 and NBA 2K15 (October 7th 2014, for those who are unaware), so it seems like the right time to tip off our annual countdown games in the NLSC Forum. For the uninitiated, the aim of the game is simple: post photos of players wearing jersey numbers that correspond to the number of days remaining until the games are released. Creative solutions are certainly welcome for days where no jersey numbers are available, particularly this early in the countdown.

You can find the countdown threads here:

Have fun! Hopefully, more news for both games will be on the way shortly. We’ll be sure to cover any developments right here on the NLSC.

NBA 2K15 Cover Art Revealed, Info on Soundtrack

Back in May, 2K Sports revealed that Oklahoma City Thunder star Kevin Durant would be featured on the NBA 2K15 cover. Today, they have revealed the game’s official cover art; check it out below!

It also appears as though hip-hop artist and producer Pharrell will be responsible for putting together NBA 2K15’s soundtrack, as the cover art mentions “Music Curated by Pharrell Williams”. Cover player LeBron James was put in charge of the soundtrack for NBA 2K14, while Jay Z was infamously an executive producer on NBA 2K13.

What do you think of the cover art, and the announcement that Pharrell is involved with the soundtrack? Sound off in the comments below, and join in the discussion here in the NBA 2K15 section of the Forum! Thanks to KevinParker13 for the heads up.

NLSC Podcast – Episode #86

NLSC Podcast Logo

Episode #86 of the NLSC Podcast is out now, as Arcane, JaoSming and I return to the virtual booth after taking last week off. As a result, we have far more signings to talk about, and far fewer predictions to potentially embarrass ourselves with.

  • We still find ourselves in the calm before the storm as far as NBA Live 15 and NBA 2K15 news is concerned, but we do have a couple of tidbits to mention, including a giveaway, more player face scans, and a couple of rumours that have been making the rounds.
  • JaoSming will be debuting a new Tuesday feature, which should be fun for us all as we wait for the new games to come out…or indeed, news on them to come along.
  • In this week’s modding discussion, we talk about the speedy updates to the Ultimate Base Roster for NBA 2K14 PC, R4zoR’s outstanding cyberface tutorial, upcoming projects by JaoSming, and some RED MC notes.
  • We tip off the NBA discussion with the biggest story of the offseason: LeBron James’ return to the Cleveland Cavaliers. What do we make of the situation, and how good will the Cavaliers be this season?
  • Can Chris Bosh now be The Man in Miami? Will Dwyane Wade stick around?
  • Carmelo Anthony has re-signed with the New York Knicks, leading JaoSming to make a bold prediction.
  • As we discuss the other player movement that’s taken place so far, we question the criticism of bandwagoning, and wonder whether it’s acceptable to follow players rather than teams.
  • Several noteworthy role players are still free agents, so yes, we go ahead and make some predictions.
  • We wrap up the show on another amusing Tweet, thanks to Skip Bayless.

The Friday Five: Clearing Up 5 Rumours Surrounding NBA 2K15 PC

The Friday Five

Welcome to this week’s edition of The Friday Five! This is a feature that I post every Friday in which I give my thoughts on a topic that’s related to basketball video games, the real NBA or another area of interest to our community, either as a list of five items or in the form of a Top 5 countdown.

I’m doing something a little different for this week’s Friday Five, as I want to address a few rumours about the PC version of NBA 2K15 that are currently making the rounds. If you frequent the NLSC Forum, you may have seen some of those rumours discussed here. While they have led to some enjoyable and lively debate, it’s important that we separate confirmed facts from mere speculation.

Unfortunately, there are some websites and individuals out there that have no qualms about spreading blatant misinformation. Some of them simply enjoy riling up and trolling gamers, while others are resorting to cheap tactics to get hits and video views, at the expense of maintaining any level of integrity. As such, I’d like to do my part in putting out some honest and reliable information for PC basketball gamers. Of course, this information is all subject to change as more details become available, but right now, this is what we know about NBA 2K15 PC.

NLSC Podcast – Episode #85

NLSC Podcast Logo

Join Arcane, JaoSming and myself for another installment of the NLSC Podcast! In Episode #85, we discuss the lack of NBA Live 15 and NBA 2K15 news, some false information that’s making the rounds, and the beginning of the 2014 NBA free agent frenzy.

  • No NBA Live 15 or NBA 2K15 news this week, but we reflect on the letdown that was last week’s NBA 2K15 hashtag campaign.
  • For all the retro gamers in the audience, a new update has been released for NBA Live 96 on Genesis. We’re impressed with the amount of work that’s gone into it.
  • JaoSming outlines his plans for a new series on his YouTube channel this Summer, featuring NBA 2K14 PC. He promises not to mislabel it for additional views.
  • Do we anticipate playing much of NBA Live 14 and NBA 2K14 during the offseason?
  • Speaking of NBA Live 14, the winners of our giveaway have been selected.
  • In light of recent comments by Peter Moore, we revisit the dreaded business models of “free to play” and “free to wait”.
  • We give our reactions to the 2014 NBA Draft. Not surprisingly, one of us had a prediction that was way off.
  • The Chicago Bulls have made a strong pitch to Carmelo Anthony, but will he end up in the Windy City? We ponder that question, and discuss some deals that have already been agreed to.
  • While discussing Jason Kidd’s jump from the Brooklyn Nets to the Milwaukee Bucks, a new euphemism is coined.
  • We wrap up the episode with an entertaining Tweet from Muggsy Bogues.
