After yet another brief hiatus last week, we’re looking to resume our regular broadcasts starting with Episode #113 of the NLSC Podcast! Join Arcane and myself as we catch up on all the latest NBA Live 15 and NBA 2K15 news, discuss what’s going on in the NBA right now, and even get a little nostalgic. This week’s topics include:

  • Patch #4 for NBA 2K15 is finally out on Xbox One. Since we’ve had the patch since March 12th, we offer up some overdue impressions.
  • We also give our latest thoughts on NBA Live 15 following all of its patches, and catch up on some other NBA Live and NBA 2K news.
  • The official website of the Phoenix Suns recently ran retrospectives on NBA Live 95 and NBA Jam. We react to their Live vs. Jam debate, and provide our own perspective and recollections.
  • It’s been 20 years since Michael Jordan declared “I’m Back”. We discuss a special project for NBA Live 2005-08 PC that’s somewhat related to the occasion.
  • What are our three favourite Michael Jordan games?
  • Steve Nash has announced his retirement, leading us to reflect on his career.
  • With Kevin Durant out for the season, Russell Westbrook keeps putting up big numbers. Will he win the scoring race with James Harden?
  • We mention a couple of interesting tidbits concerning the Los Angeles Lakers: one a dubious distinction, the other a somewhat surprising fact.
  • As the Spurs make history with their sixteenth consecutive 50+ win season, we reflect on their success in the past couple of decades.
  • We wrap up the show with some interesting features of the PlayStation 4, and some more Michael Jordan trivia.

NBA 2K15 Patch #4 Out Now on Xbox One; Patch Notes Released

The fourth official patch for NBA 2K15 is now available for the Xbox One version of the game. PC and PlayStation 4 users have already received the patch, back on March 12th. Full patch notes have also been made available, and they are as follows:

  • (XB1) Online games will no longer disconnect during gameplay when one or more users had minimized the title and returned while sitting on the Team Select screen prior to playing.
  • Made a number of improvements to the player progression/regression systems that drive player ratings in MyGM/MyLEAGUE/MyCAREER.
  • Fixed a rare case where the user team would trade for the upcoming pick mid-draft (MyGM/MyLEAGUE), but the team that traded away the pick would retain the rights to the player.
  • Fixed an issue where some users were unable to access specific Online Leagues.
  • Removed “auto-hesitation” dribble animations that played when driving near defenders. Smoothed out the sprint to jog transition in the back court.
  • Tuned shot percentages for a more obvious distinction between open and covered shots. Slight increase to contact dunk frequency for high level dunkers.
  • Corrected an issue in MyTEAM where improved player badges were not appearing in the correct color when viewing a head-to-head game. The correct badge level with appropriate gameplay adjustments are now being made.
  • The ‘Bruiser’ and ‘Hardened’ badges will now unlock properly in MyCAREER when the appropriate conditions are met.
  • Fixed a rare case where some users would occasionally see the title hang during the series of legal screens at the start of the game.
  • (XB1) Corrected an issue where Park Chat through the My NBA 2K15 app would not work for some users.
  • (XB1) Fixed an issue where a user’s gamertag would not update in the Roster Creator interface when the gamertag was changed outside of the title.

Feel free to discuss the patch in the comments section below, as well as in this thread in the NBA 2K15 section of the Forum!

  • In addition to scanning current NBA player faces for next year’s game, EA Sports also brought Patrick Ewing into the studio. Will this mean better Legends faces in NBA Live 16?

Patch #4 for NBA 2K15 Released on PC & PS4

The fourth official patch for NBA 2K15 has been pushed through for the PC and PlayStation 4 versions of the game. It has not come through yet on Xbox One and no timetable is currently available, though Ronnie 2K previously indicated that the patch would be coming out on all platforms within 14 days, but “probably much sooner”.

Full patch notes are yet to come, but it has been noted that the latest patch addresses various issues with shoes, primarily occurring in MyCAREER. As soon as more information is made available, we’ll be sure to post it.

The PC patch is around 92.2 MB in size, while the PlayStation 4 patch checks in at 2.84 GB. If you have feedback on the patch, feel free to post it in the comments below, as well as in this thread in the NBA 2K15 section of the NLSC Forum.

NLSC Podcast Logo

Episode #111 of the NLSC Podcast is out now! Join Arcane and I as we discuss a wild NBA trade deadline, some devastating news for our favourite teams, and a few basketball video game topics.

  • Post-trade deadline rosters have been pushed through for NBA Live 15 and NBA 2K15, but unfortunately the current NBA Live 15 roster contains a few errors.
  • All-Star and Chinese New Year content is currently available in NBA Live 15 Ultimate Team.
  • We’ve been collecting some great feedback for our NBA Live 16 Wishlist. We ask the community to please keep it coming!
  • Could another developer feasibly throw their hat into the ring with an NBA game? We discuss who could possibly do it, and consider the challenges they’d likely face.
  • A record 37 players were traded at this year’s deadline. We run down all of the deals, and give our thoughts on each.
  • Chris Bosh is out for the season, as is Derrick Rose…again. As you may have guessed, we’re not thrilled.

The Friday Five: Top 5 Controversies in Basketball Gaming

The Friday Five

Welcome to this week’s edition of The Friday Five! This is a feature that I post every Friday in which I give my thoughts on a topic that’s related to basketball video games, the real NBA or another area of interest to our community, either as a list of five items or in the form of a Top 5 countdown.

It’s about time that I did another Top 5 countdown in The Friday Five, and I believe that I have an interesting topic for the occasion, one that I’ve somehow overlooked covering so far: controversies in basketball gaming. As video games have transitioned from a novelty into a thriving industry and popular pastime, gamers have become savvier consumers who are not afraid to speak their minds when the product doesn’t meet their expectations, or a developer does something that they don’t like.

Basketball video games are no exception, and the basketball gaming community certainly has no qualms about speaking out when it’s unhappy. There have been a number of issues that have had us riled up over the years, so for this week’s Friday Five, I’m reflecting upon, ranking, and counting down what I’m offering up as the Top 5 Controversies in Basketball Gaming. Let’s begin.

NLSC Podcast – Episode #110

NLSC Podcast Logo

Episode #110 of the NLSC Podcast is out now! Last week, Arcane and I made our predictions for the 2015 NBA All-Star Weekend, so this week, we’re following up on our picks and giving our thoughts on everything that went down. As always, we also cover the latest in basketball video gaming news.

  • NBA Live 15 received two roster updates over the past week, as well as a content update which included the All-Star court and jerseys, and over 100 bug fixes.
  • NBA 2K15 PC was Free to Play on Steam over the weekend, and available to buy at a 50% discount.
  • Some recent eBay purchases lead to another discussion about retro basketball gaming.
  • Amar’e Stoudemire will reportedly be bought out by the Knicks, and will likely sign with the Mavericks. We consider what kind of impact he might have.
  • As you may have expected, we didn’t do so well on our predictions for the 2015 NBA All-Star Weekend. Nevertheless, we give our thoughts on all of the events.
  • Do today’s players need a bit more of a competitive edge, or even somewhat of a dislike for each other?
  • Carmelo Anthony and the Knicks get burned by Not Bill Walton on Twitter, again.

NLSC Podcast – Episode #109

NLSC Podcast Logo

Tune in to Episode #109 of the NLSC Podcast for the latest basketball video game and NBA discussion! This week, Arcane and I talk Wishlists for NBA Live 16 and NBA 2K16, catch up on the week in NBA Live 15 and NBA 2K15 news, and make our predictions for the 2015 NBA All-Star Weekend.

  • Our official Wishlist thread for NBA Live 16 is now open, and the NBA 2K16 thread will soon follow. We discuss the benefits of Wishlists, and the best ways to provide feedback.
  • This week’s content updates include new Legends in NBA Live 15 Ultimate Team, and new uniforms and Black History Month shoes in NBA 2K15.
  • We admire TGsoGood’s custom NBA 2K14 PC trading cards, which were created using the Ultimate Base Roster.
  • As we reflect on our recent basketball gaming experiences, we discuss what it’s like to go back and play an older game, and why we sometimes take breaks from playing basketball games.
  • We successfully jinxed the Atlanta Hawks’ winning streak with last week’s show. This week, we try to jinx a potential NBA Finals match-up by talking about the Hawks and the Golden State Warriors.
  • Our discussion on the Hawks’ starting five being named Eastern Conference Player of the Month leads to us giving some opinions on possible changes to the All-Star rosters and Playoffs format.
  • Because we’re so good at them, we make our predictions for the 2015 NBA All-Star Weekend.
  • We end the show by revisiting the Hawks/Warriors discussion, and throw out some trivia regarding Aussies in the NBA.
