NBA 2K17 Patch 1.03 Out Now on PC

NBA 2K17: Kyrie irving

The wait is over, as the PC version of NBA 2K17 has finally received Patch 1.03. Although 2K Sports is yet to acknowledge the patch’s release on the game’s official social media, it should come through automatically when you log into Steam, and the game’s update history displays a list of the patch notes.

Interestingly, the PC patch is only around 560 MB in size, but at a glance, all of the key fixes and additions are included. Having fired up NBA 2K17 to check, I can at least confirm that substitutions made during a timeout now apply immediately instead of having to wait until the next dead ball.

Once you’ve downloaded the patch and played some games with it, feel free to share your impressions in the comments below, as well as in this thread in the NBA 2K17 section of the Forum.

NBA 2K17 Patch 1.03 Out Now on Xbox One

NBA 2K17: DeMar DeRozan

Patch 1.03 is now available for the Xbox One version of NBA 2K17. As usual, it will come through automatically as long as your console is connected to the Internet. The patch addresses various issues game-wide, from gameplay quirks to bugs in MyCAREER and MyGM. If you’d like a full rundown of all the fixes in Patch 1.03, please see our previous bulletin.

Unfortunately, there’s no word yet on when the PC version of NBA 2K17 will receive the new patch. It seems unlikely that the PC version will be left out in the cold, so until such time as we hear otherwise, it’s safe to assume that the patch will be coming through on Steam eventually.

In the meantime, if you’d like to share any impressions of the patch on Xbox One or PlayStation 4, feel free to join in the discussion in this thread in the NBA 2K17 section of the Forum, or leave a comment below.

Monday Tip-Off: How To Choose Teams in Franchise Modes

Selecting when you want to start your franchise experience in NBA 2K17's MyLEAGUE & MyGM

We’re at midcourt, and the ball is about to go up…it’s Monday Tip-Off! Start your week here at the NLSC with a feature that’s dedicated to opinions, commentary, and other fun stuff related to NBA Live, NBA 2K, and other basketball video games.

I’ve been away camping over the weekend, so it’s been a few days since I played NBA 2K17. However, I can guarantee that it won’t be long before I’m picking up the controller once more, and returning to the virtual hardwood. So far, I’ve been playing a lot of MyCAREER and meeting up with the guys to play 2K Pro-Am, but I’m still very keen to return to my roots as a franchise gamer and begin a MyLEAGUE game. Of course, that’s something I might still hold off on until the opening night rosters have been pushed through.

In the meantime, I’m still mulling over a few ideas for what I’d like to do with MyLEAGUE. My first choice is always the Chicago Bulls, and their offseason acquisitions have made them an interesting option. I’m intrigued by the possibility of taking control of the Philadelphia 76ers, and I also really like the Charlotte Hornets’ branding. The team you choose to play a franchise game with obviously plays a huge role in how much you enjoy the experience, so I thought that for this week’s Monday Tip-Off, I’d discuss the selection process and offer up a few tips.

NLSC Podcast – Episode #178

NLSC Podcast Logo

Episode #178 of the NLSC Podcast is out now! We’ve got plenty more NBA 2K17 impressions to share with our listeners this week, as well our thoughts on a couple of recent NBA stories (hey, remember real basketball?).

On this week’s show…

  • We tip things off with another quick update on some recent advancements in NBA 2K17 modding. Our community has continued to make some exciting discoveries over the past week.
  • Our plans to pick up where we left off with the NLSC 2K Pro-Am team have hit a snag, as the mode has not been kind to us. In fact, following patch 1.03, it’s close to unplayable. We share a few of our complaints.
  • Once again, we touch on the fact that Virtual Currency rewards have been severely nerfed in this year’s game, and wonder if the new patch has reduced them even further.
  • While we have our complaints this week, it’s not all bad news. We still have a very high opinion of offline/single player gameplay in NBA 2K17, and have some positive experiences to share.
  • Wrapping up Our Week in Basketball Gaming, a few thoughts on finishing the Jordan Challenge in NBA 2K11, ahead of next week’s Wayback Wednesday feature.
  • After 21 NBA seasons, Kevin Garnett is hanging up his sneakers. We reflect on the career of The Big Ticket, the last remaining NBA player from the 16-bit era.
  • From the sounds of things, Chris Bosh’s career might also be over. However, given the health scares he’s endured the past couple of seasons, it may be for the best.

NBA 2K17 Patch 1.03 Released

NBA 2K17: Paul George

A new patch (1.03) has come through for the PlayStation 4 version of NBA 2K17. It’s around 7 GB in size, and will download automatically as long as your console is connected to the Internet. 2K has indicated that the Xbox One patch will be coming “soon”, while there is no word on the PC patch as yet.

The patch includes some cosmetic updates such as new courts for the New York Knicks and Milwaukee Bucks, anniversary patches and other fixes for a few jerseys, and resolves an issue with the ’92 Dream Team pre-order DLC. It also tweaks the frequency of lob passes, resolves an issue with substitutions during timeouts, and makes several other small fixes and adjustments game-wide.

In terms of NBA 2K17’s modes, patch 1.03 addresses various issues including injuries in MyCAREER carrying over to MyPARK and 2K Pro-Am, an inability to veto rule changes in MyGM, overlapping practice sessions and games in MyCAREER, and problems with Draft Classes in MyLEAGUE Online, to name but a few.

Please see below for the full list of patch notes. What are your impressions of NBA 2K17, post-patch 1.03? Are you experiencing any issues? Sound off in the comments below as well as in this thread, and don’t forget that we’re compiling a list of bugs here.

NLSC Podcast – Episode #177

NLSC Podcast Logo

Episode #177 of the NLSC Podcast is out now! As you might expect, this week’s episode is basically the NBA 2K17 Show, as Arcane, Kenny, and I talk about our first week with this year’s game from Visual Concepts.

On this week’s show…

  • Before we get into our initial impressions of NBA 2K17, we note that our community is already hard at work figuring out how to mod the game. In fact, some of the first mods have already been released!
  • We tip off our NBA 2K17 impressions with our take on gameplay, including our opinions on the new shooting mechanics, the responsiveness of the controls, and more.
  • After “Livin’ Da Dream” left us feeling underwhelmed last year, we’re actually not too down on the story in this year’s MyCAREER. There are a few other things we’re liking about this year’s mode, too.
  • Unfortunately, 2K Pro-Am has been somewhat of a frustrating experience so far. We comment on the new features we like, the removal of customisation out of the gate (which we don’t), and some annoying moments with the mode’s gameplay.
  • On a more positive note, we have a lot of good things to say about MyLEAGUE, MyGM, and MyLEAGUE Online. We’re all looking forward to getting into some more franchise gaming in NBA 2K17.
  • We wrap up Episode #177 of the NLSC Podcast with a few final first impressions of NBA 2K17, with the disclaimer that we’ll be playing this game for a while, and some of our opinions may be subject to change the more we play.

NBA 2K17 MyPARK Blog

NBA 2K17: MyPARK Select

Developer blogs generally end with the release of a new game, but even though NBA 2K17 is out now, 2K clearly has a few more details that they’d like to spotlight. Online producer Shane Coffin has written a blog on MyPARK in this year’s game, which you can check out here over on the official NBA 2K Facebook page.

Highlights of the blog include:

  • MyPARK in NBA 2K17 will be “event” driven, with five different types of events: a Mountain Dew-sponsored 3v3 tournament, Rival Day, Ante-Up, House Rules, and Double Rep Weekends. Another event type is yet to be announced.
  • Several new MyPARK-exclusive animations have been added, including squad animations, hanging out animations, gameplay animations, and celebrations.
  • Park Cards have been revamped, and good teammates can earn the ability to use more than one card per game.
  • Park-specific badges have been added: Game Point, Road Dog, 7 Oh’s, Iron Man, Legend Takeover, Park Bully, Winners Only, and Streak Breaker.
  • It’s now possible to earn player upgrades while playing in MyPARK.
  • Double alley-oops have been added.

If you’ve already gotten into MyPARK in NBA 2K17, chances are you’re already aware of these additions and changes, but if you’d like the full scoop, be sure to check out the blog for more information. Once again, I encourage everyone to head over to our NBA 2K17 board if you’d like to share your thoughts, or your recent experiences with the game.

Monday Tip-Off: Realism in Franchise Modes

MyLEAGUE & MyGM, NBA 2K17's Franchise Modes

We’re at midcourt, and the ball is about to go up…it’s Monday Tip-Off! Start your week here at the NLSC with a feature that’s dedicated to opinions, commentary, and other fun stuff related to NBA Live, NBA 2K, and other basketball video games.

As I mentioned in last week’s Friday Five, one of my goals for NBA 2K17 is to return to my roots as a franchise gamer, and spend a lot more time in MyLEAGUE. I’m still deciding which team (or teams) I’ll control, what kind of moves I might make, and whether or not I’ll experiment with league expansion and relocation in my primary MyLEAGUE game. As I mentioned in this thread, I generally prefer to maintain a certain level of realism when I play franchise modes, as I’ve discovered that making too many trades or using the fantasy draft options quickly leads to boredom, due to the more rapid departure from reality.

Of course, the very nature of franchise modes means that there will generally be some deviation from reality. Whether it’s a player’s stats, a team’s record, or the odd trade here and there, most of our franchise games are not going to be one hundred percent realistic. For many of us, it’s those small changes – or if we so choose, big changes – that make franchise modes so fun and enjoyable. At the same time, however, many of us do believe that franchise modes should be as realistic as possible, and are frustrated when our desired level of realism isn’t achieved. The question is: what actually constitutes realism in a franchise mode?

NBA 2K17 Forum Subsections & Download Sections Added

NBA 2K17: Paul George

We’re in the midst of the Early Tip-Off Weekend for NBA 2K17, and as you can see in the game’s main discussion area in the NLSC Forum, a lot of people already have it. We’ve also been discussing plans and techniques for modding – before the game was even released, in fact – and now that we have our hands on NBA 2K17, I’ve added a new section in our Downloads database for it. As always, we encourage you to make use of our upload facilities!

Please note that I have not created a section for NBA 2K17 roster updates. At this time, the only way to share rosters in the legal version of the game is through the in-game Roster Creator’s sharing functions, so there’s no call for a Rosters section in our Downloads database. Please note that our rules regarding pirated games remain unchanged: no discussing them, no sharing files for them, no requesting download links or any help with them. It’s grounds for a permanent ban, as clearly stated in our Forum Rules. Be advised that we will enforce our rules whether or not you take the time to read them, so we suggest that you give them a look!

If you’re looking for a place to preview and release any mods for NBA 2K17, then the newly created Releases & Previews section is for you. We also have a Tutorials & FAQs section, which we’ll fill with resources as they’re created. As usual, the ability to create new threads in that section is restricted to NLSC staff, to avoid clutter and off-topic posts. If you want to contribute a resource, please post it in the main discussion area, or the Releases & Previews section, and one of us will move it to the Tutorials & FAQs section as soon as possible.

Be sure to join in all of the discussion that’s taking place in the NBA 2K17 section of the Forum! We’re hoping to see everyone sharing their experiences and knowledge this year, as we continue striving to be the definitive resource and destination for basketball gaming. We’re also looking to create some fun and informative original content for NBA 2K17 over the next year, so stay tuned for that, and all the great works from our modding community!

The Friday Five: My 5 Goals for NBA 2K17

The Friday Five

Welcome to this week’s edition of The Friday Five! The Friday Five is a feature that I post every Friday in which I give my thoughts on a topic that’s related to NBA Live, NBA 2K, and other basketball video games, as well as the real NBA, and other areas of interest to our community. The feature is presented as either a list of five items, or in the form of a Top 5 countdown.

As I write this, I’ve finished pre-loading NBA 2K17 PC, and am waiting for the Day One patch for the PlayStation 4 version to finish downloading. With any luck, it won’t be long before I’m playing one or the other (most likely the PS4 version), and getting the ball into the air for the Early Tip-Off Weekend. I spent some time playing through The Prelude last weekend, and I’m feeling very optimistic that I have an enjoyable year of NBA 2K gaming ahead of me.

While I’m preparing to get my hands on the full version of NBA 2K17, I’ve been thinking about some of the things that I want to do with this year’s game. With so many deep and robust game modes, there should be something for every basketball gamer, and perhaps more than any of us can truly sink our teeth into in the space of a year. Of course, with NBA Live 17 not coming out until early 2017, I won’t be splitting my time between EA and 2K on the virtual hardwood, at least for a few more months. With that in mind, here are five goals that I have for NBA 2K17.

NLSC Podcast – Episode #176

NLSC Podcast Logo

Episode #176 of the NLSC Podcast is out now! Arcane and I are your hosts this week, and with the imminent release of NBA 2K17, we have some final previews and developer blogs to talk about. We also discuss an issue from the past week that has us a bit riled up, with a couple of profanities slipping through as a result. Just a heads up for anyone who strongly objects to a bit of bad language!

On this week’s show…

  • NBA 2K17 is almost here! A new Momentous Trailer marks the occasion; did it hype us up?
  • We give our thoughts on The Prelude, from the glimpse at the story to our hands-on impressions of how the game feels on the sticks.
  • Face scanning has had mixed results so far, but at least one of us is happy not to be dealing with the PlayStation Camera anymore. There’s also been some good news, as the MyNBA2K17 app will support face scanning for the PC version.
  • NBA 2K17 will feature an expanded roster of broadcasters, and dynamic commentary. We certainly like the sound of that.
  • Although it’s put an end to an idea we had for a game of MyLEAGUE Online, the developer blog for MyLEAGUE, MyGM, and the aforementioned MLO has delivered some otherwise fantastic news.
  • MyTEAM has received some solid improvements in NBA 2K17, but we’re still a bit sceptical about how good the pack odds will be. How honest is that trailer?
  • NBA 2K17 has taken a shot at NBA Live (or more specifically, NBA Elite 11) which frankly, we find to be a little petty. We discuss the potshot, and things get a little profane in the process.
  • We wrap up Episode #176 of the NLSC Podcast with Our Week in Basketball Gaming. This week, it’s the swansong for the NLSC 2K Pro-Am team in NBA 2K16, some unfinished business in NBA 2K11, and more tales from MyCAREER.

NBA 2K17 Momentous Trailer Released

NBA 2K17: Kyrie irving

With the game’s release looming, 2K Sports has released the Momentous Trailer for NBA 2K17. As we’ve come to expect, the trailer is another slick production, showing off this year’s game from a variety of cinematic camera angles.

The trailer begins with the ring ceremony for the Cleveland Cavaliers, and spotlights several players including cover player Paul George, and Team 2K members Jimmy Butler, Kyrie Irving, Draymond Green, Kevin Durant, Andre Drummond, and Karl-Anthony Towns. It also includes a couple of very nice dunks from Zach LaVine and Aaron Gordon, and a smooth crossover by Damian Lillard.

Check out the trailer below, or catch it here on YouTube if you can’t see the embedded video.

From the looks of things, NBA 2K17 is already available to pre-load on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, for gamers who pre-ordered digital copies. The PC version should also be available to pre-load on Steam very soon, so if you’ve pre-ordered, keep an eye on your emails for your key. Incidentally, the system requirements for NBA 2K17 PC have recently been revealed. For more information, check out this thread.

What’s your reaction to the NBA 2K17 Momentous Trailer? Are you hyped to play the game? Sound off in the comments below, and join in the discussion here in the NLSC Forum.
