NBA Live 14

NBA Live 14 Screenshot Coming Next Monday

As per this update from the official NBA Live Twitter, the first in-game screenshot of NBA Live 14 will be coming next Monday. Executive producer Sean O’Brien’s previous update mentioned that more news and previews, including footage of five-on-five gameplay, would be coming in the near future.

The Tweet also mentions that NBA Live 14 will be coming “in the next-gen launch window”, as does this Tweet by producer Scott O’Gallagher, which has led to speculation that the game will not be a launch day title as originally indicated. There aren’t any further details at this time but as soon as any new information does become available, we’ll be sure to post it. In the meantime, it appears as though preview media and more information on the game will be coming our way beginning next week. Feel free to add your thoughts in the comments below, as well as in the NBA Live 14 section of the Forum.

The Friday Five: 5 Hopes for NBA Live 14’s Rising Star Mode

It’s Friday once again, which means it’s time for this week’s edition of The Friday Five! For those of you who are unfamiliar with The Friday Five and are wondering what it’s all about, this is a feature that I post every Friday in which I give my thoughts on a topic that’s related to basketball video games, the real NBA or another area of interest to our community, either as a list of five items or in the form of a Top 5 countdown.

A few weeks ago, EA Sports revealed that NBA Live 14 will feature a single player career mode called Rising Star. While I’ve traditionally been more interested in modes like Dynasty and Association, I spent a lot of time with MyCAREER in NBA 2K13 and enjoyed it immensely, so I’ll definitely be giving Rising Star a try in the hopes that it will be a similarly engaging experience. Since I listed the things that I want to see in Dynasty Mode in a previous Friday Five, this week I’m taking a look at the five things I’m hoping to see in Rising Star as it makes it debut.

NBA Live 14 Update from Sean O’Brien

NBA Live 14’s executive producer Sean O’Brien has posted an update over on the official website, recapping some of the recent news and talking about forthcoming previews and information. He acknowledges the interest in learning more about the game and seeing some actual five-on-five gameplay, promising that all that stuff is “coming soon” and explaining that he wants everyone to see the game as it nears completion, without any disclaimers regarding the quality.

We’ll certainly be covering all the news and preview media that comes out and hopefully we’ll also be able to bring you some exclusive tidbits here and there. Behind the scenes of player ratings in NBA Live 14 (CBS Sports)

Matt Moore of CBS Sports had an opportunity to sit down with NBA Live 14’s executive producer Sean O’Brien and talk ratings in this year’s game. Sean talks about the partnership with Synergy Sports and the team’s goal of eliminating subjective ratings wherever possible, while also striving to be objective when assigning physical ratings such as speed and strength.

It’s worth checking out for an insight into how the NBA Live development team is making the most of their partnership with Synergy in determining ratings and trying to represent realistic player tendencies and performance. Give it a look and add your thoughts in the comments below, as well as here in the NBA Live 14 section of the Forum. Thanks to hiteshom for the heads up.

The Friday Five: 5 Teams To Play With In This Year’s Games

Welcome to another Friday here at the NLSC and another edition of The Friday Five! If this is your first time checking out The Friday Five and you’re wondering what it’s all about, this is a feature that I post every Friday in which I give my thoughts on a topic that’s related to basketball video games, the real NBA or another area of interest to our community, either as a list of five items or in the form of a Top 5 countdown.

The current gen version of NBA 2K14 will be on store shelves in a little under a month, while the next gen version of the game and NBA Live 14 will be launch titles for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One come November. With the release of the games and a new NBA season right around the corner, this week I thought I’d take a look at five teams that will be fun and interesting to play with in this year’s games. Note that I’m not suggesting that these are the best teams to win with and they likely won’t be to everyone’s tastes, but they are five teams that I think are worth considering if you’re after a challenge or looking for an interesting scenario.

How NBA Live captures an NBA star’s moves (USA Today)

USA Today has posted a feature which takes a look at the motion capture sessions for NBA Live 14. It includes quotes from Damian Lillard, who recently visited EA Tiburon to have his moves captured for the game. Interestingly, it mentions that Synergy data was used to determine the drills and sets they needed to use to properly capture all of Lillard’s signature moves.

The feature also mentions that Lillard’s facial expressions were captured for NBA Live 14. Check it out and add your thoughts in the comments below, as well as here in the NLSC Forum. Thanks to hiteshom for the heads up.

Behind the Scenes with the NBA Live 14 Developers (Dime Magazine)

Dime Magazine has gone behind the scenes of NBA Live 14 with three of the developers: Scott O’Gallagher, Ryan Santos and Ryan Ferwerda. The guys talk about the different disciplines that have gone into creating NBA Live 14, taking the game to the next level and the EA Sports IGNITE engine, the partnership with Synergy Sports and the decision to only release the game on the next generation of consoles.

It’s definitely worth a read to learn a bit more about the philosophy and technology behind NBA Live 14 as EA Sports looks to make a strong comeback with the series. With September looming, we should hopefully be seeing more preview media and specific details on gameplay and features very soon. In the meantime, feel free to share your thoughts in the comments below, as well as join in the discussion here in the NBA Live 14 section of the NLSC Forum.

More on Damian Lillard’s Visit to EA & NBA Live 14 Mo-Cap Session

Earlier this week, Damian Lillard took part in a motion capture session for NBA Live 14 at EA’s Tiburon studio, going one-on-one with producer and former pro baller Scott O’Gallagher as they captured his signature moves for this year’s game. The official NBA Live website has posted a behind the scenes look at the session, which you can check out here.

Dime Magazine also had a chance to catch up with Lillard while he was in Orlando. In the interview, he talks about what it was like to capture his moves for the game, what he thinks of NBA Live 14 so far and a handful of other topics. Check out both articles and post your thoughts in the comments below, as well as here in the NLSC Forum.

NBA Live 14 Playtesting Session (August 28th & 29th)

If you live in the Vancouver area and have missed out on taking part in any of the previous NBA Live 14 playtesting sessions, there are another couple of opportunities to get an early look at the game coming up next week. Two more all-day playtesting sessions will be held at EA Canada on August 28th and 29th, with participants being provided lunch and an EA game of their choice for their time and efforts.

Anyone interested should fill out this survey as soon as possible. Please note that you’ll be under NDA so you won’t be able to tell us anything about the game, but it will be an opportunity to provide constructive feedback to the development team.

The Friday Five: 5 Things NBA Live 14’s Dynasty Mode Needs

Welcome everyone to another Friday here at the NLSC and another edition of The Friday Five!

The announcement of Rising Star mode in NBA Live 14 came as very welcome news as single player career modes have become extremely popular in sports games, to the point where they’re basically a must for any title. Given how much I’ve enjoyed MyCAREER in NBA 2K13, I’ll certainly be giving it a look. However, I’m still very much a Dynasty Mode fan, so I’m hoping that it has also received adequate attention as NBA Live looks to make a strong comeback. As such, this week I’m taking a look at the five things that I believe Dynasty Mode needs to do or have to provide a deep and enjoyable experience in NBA Live 14.

Please note that when we recorded this week’s episode, Rising Star mode for NBA Live 14 had not yet been announced, so we’ll be sure to give our thoughts on that next week. In the meantime, please let us know what you think about this week’s show and have your say on anything we talked about in the comments below, as well as in this thread.

NBA Live 14’s Rising Star Mode Announced

EA has finally released some news on NBA Live 14. The game will feature Rising Star mode, a single player career mode similar to Be A Pro or MyCAREER. In the press release, we find out that the user can choose between positions and position specialties that will guide them over the course of a 25 year career that the mode caps at. There is a special Under Armour Draft Showcase, similar to the one seen in the NBA Elite 11 demo and 2K’s career modes, which decides the player’s Draft stock. Finally, the write-up mentions Rising Star Points as a means to improve skills, which will likely be similar to other career modes.

To see the released screenshot in full resolution, check out this thread in our NBA Live 14 Forum. While there, feel free to share your thoughts on the announced mode, as well as in the comments below. Thanks to ThaLiveKing for the heads up.
