Finalising our NBA Live 16 Wishlist; Last Call for Wishes

We’re looking to finalise our Wishlist for NBA Live 16, so that we can submit it to the development team at EA Tiburon along with a summary of the Top 15-20 Wishes from the community. As such, this is a last call for wishes: if you have suggestions, bug reports, or any constructive feedback that you’d like to put out there and pass along to the developers, be sure to post it in this thread.

Additionally, I’ve started a thread here for discussion on what you’d like to see in NBA Live 16’s Dynasty Mode. As long-time visitors and listeners to the NLSC Podcast are probably aware, Dynasty Mode has long been my favourite mode in NBA Live, and I know there are quite a few of us who have good ideas and strong opinions on what we want to get out of it. Suggestions and feedback posted in that thread will be submitted along with the main Wishlist.

As I’ve mentioned on the Podcast, we will be keeping the Wishlist thread open after we officially submit it, so that we can continue to discuss ideas for NBA Live 16. So, once again, if you’ve got any suggestions you’d like to send along to the NBA Live Development Team at EA Tiburon, please post them in our Wishlist thread ASAP!

The Friday Five: 5 Hopes for NBA Live 16

The Friday Five

Welcome to this week’s edition of The Friday Five! This is a feature that I post every Friday in which I give my thoughts on a topic that’s related to basketball video games, the real NBA or another area of interest to our community, either as a list of five items or in the form of a Top 5 countdown.

As I’ve already mentioned, we’re looking to finalise our Wishlist for NBA Live 16 as soon as possible, in order to submit it to the development team at EA Tiburon along with the community’s Top 15-20 suggestions for the game. If you haven’t added your feedback yet, by all means do so whenever you have a free moment. Once again, the developers are keeping tabs on the Forum, and we do have a direct line of communication to them, so our feedback isn’t just disappearing into the proverbial void.

I’ve already posted my contributions to the Wishlist, but for this week’s Friday Five, I thought I’d outline my hopes for NBA Live 16. With NBA Live 15 making some noteworthy improvements over NBA Live 14, it’s my hope that a healthy amount of my wishes will come to pass in this year’s game. Those wishes include…

NLSC Podcast – Episode #112

NLSC Podcast Logo

Following another brief hiatus, Arcane and I are back with Episode #112 of the NLSC Podcast! In this week’s show, we catch up on all the latest NBA Live 15 and NBA 2K15 news, speculate a little on NBA Live 16 and NBA 2K16, and of course, chat about what’s going on in the NBA.

  • In addition to scanning current NBA player faces for next year’s game, EA Sports also brought Patrick Ewing into the studio. Will this mean better Legends faces in NBA Live 16?
  • We recap the latest content updates for NBA Live 15, including the third patch. Impressions to follow next week.
  • A fourth official patch has also been pushed through for NBA 2K15, along with new content. We’ll also have more thoughts on that in upcoming episodes.
  • We talk a little about some recent experiences with the games, as well as couple of feature articles on the NLSC.
  • Who do we think will be on the covers of NBA Live 16 and NBA 2K16?
  • This week’s NBA discussion includes Russell Westbrook’s string of triple doubles, Kyrie Irving’s big game, the 2015 Playoffs race, and more injury talk.
  • The late Leonard Nimoy left us with a perfect sentiment to close the show on.

Legends Face Scans for NBA Live 16

Although we’re at least a few months away from getting in-depth information on NBA Live 16, it appears as though we’ve received our first tidbit about this year’s game. Over the weekend, a photo of Patrick Ewing getting his face scanned was posted on the official NBA Live Twitter, along with the hashtag #NBALIVE16. As such, it would seem to confirm that at least a few former NBA players will be getting their faces scanned for this year’s release.

Of course, it remains to be seen the capacity in which Legends will be used in NBA Live 16. In NBA Live 14 and NBA Live 15, Legends have only been playable in Ultimate Team, and it seems a safe bet that they’ll be collectable in NBA Live 16’s Ultimate Team as well. However, expanding the presence of Legends beyond Ultimate Team – such the inclusion of the old Decade All-Star teams, or historic squads – has become a Wishlist item. As it stands, we likely won’t be getting any details on that for a little while yet.

What are your thoughts on Legends getting their faces scanned? Do you think we’ll see a bigger presence for Legends in NBA Live 16? Sound off in the comments below, and join in the discussion in this thread!

NLSC Podcast – Episode #111

NLSC Podcast Logo

Episode #111 of the NLSC Podcast is out now! Join Arcane and I as we discuss a wild NBA trade deadline, some devastating news for our favourite teams, and a few basketball video game topics.

  • Post-trade deadline rosters have been pushed through for NBA Live 15 and NBA 2K15, but unfortunately the current NBA Live 15 roster contains a few errors.
  • All-Star and Chinese New Year content is currently available in NBA Live 15 Ultimate Team.
  • We’ve been collecting some great feedback for our NBA Live 16 Wishlist. We ask the community to please keep it coming!
  • Could another developer feasibly throw their hat into the ring with an NBA game? We discuss who could possibly do it, and consider the challenges they’d likely face.
  • A record 37 players were traded at this year’s deadline. We run down all of the deals, and give our thoughts on each.
  • Chris Bosh is out for the season, as is Derrick Rose…again. As you may have guessed, we’re not thrilled.
  • Daniel Orton finds a creative way to get kicked out of the PBA.

NBA Live 16 Wishlist Reminder

Just another reminder that we’re currently compiling our Wishlist for NBA Live 16, and we’re inviting everyone in the basketball gaming community to add their constructive feedback. If you’ve got ideas for the next game in the NBA Live series, as well as any important NBA Live 15 bug reports, or suggestions on how certain features could be improved, please post them ASAP!

If you’ve got a lot of feedback, we suggest posting it as a list of 10-15 items, with a maximum of 20. If you’ve only got a couple of suggestions, that’s fine too; the development team are keeping tabs on our Wishlist, and every piece of constructive feedback helps.

You can find our NBA Live 16 Wishlist thread here in the Forum. If you’re interested in checking out my personal Wishlist, you can find it in this post. You may also want to post your suggestions in the Wishlist thread that’s being compiled here over in the official NBA Live forums on EA.com.

NLSC Podcast – Episode #109

NLSC Podcast Logo

Tune in to Episode #109 of the NLSC Podcast for the latest basketball video game and NBA discussion! This week, Arcane and I talk Wishlists for NBA Live 16 and NBA 2K16, catch up on the week in NBA Live 15 and NBA 2K15 news, and make our predictions for the 2015 NBA All-Star Weekend.

  • Our official Wishlist thread for NBA Live 16 is now open, and the NBA 2K16 thread will soon follow. We discuss the benefits of Wishlists, and the best ways to provide feedback.
  • This week’s content updates include new Legends in NBA Live 15 Ultimate Team, and new uniforms and Black History Month shoes in NBA 2K15.
  • We admire TGsoGood’s custom NBA 2K14 PC trading cards, which were created using the Ultimate Base Roster.
  • As we reflect on our recent basketball gaming experiences, we discuss what it’s like to go back and play an older game, and why we sometimes take breaks from playing basketball games.
  • We successfully jinxed the Atlanta Hawks’ winning streak with last week’s show. This week, we try to jinx a potential NBA Finals match-up by talking about the Hawks and the Golden State Warriors.
  • Our discussion on the Hawks’ starting five being named Eastern Conference Player of the Month leads to us giving some opinions on possible changes to the All-Star rosters and Playoffs format.
  • Because we’re so good at them, we make our predictions for the 2015 NBA All-Star Weekend.
  • We end the show by revisiting the Hawks/Warriors discussion, and throw out some trivia regarding Aussies in the NBA.

NBA Live 16 Wishlist

The time has come to compile our annual NBA Live Wishlist, so that we can provide constructive feedback to the developers for NBA Live 16. If you would like to contribute, please post your ideas in this thread in the NBA Live 15 section of the Forum. Once we launch our NBA Live 16 section later this year, it will naturally be archived there.

As I mentioned in the Wishlist thread, we’ve spoken to developers in years gone by to determine the best format for presenting our ideas, and that’s ultimately been for everyone to post their top ten or fifteen wishes (ie. suggestions) for the game, elaborating on any points as necessary (but not writing a thousand word essay either). Please keep your list to twenty items at the very most, but ten to fifteen is optimal.

Once again, this is intended to be constructive feedback, so while we certainly encourage everyone to be honest and avoid sugarcoating their responses, please also refrain from being abusive, insulting, or snarky. If you want to rip into NBA Live 15 or the series in general, we have other threads for that (or you can create your own). However, please remember that Wishlist threads are for constructive feedback only.

That’s about it. Once again, for everyone who’s interested in contributing, please feel free to start posting your ideas and suggestions here!

The Friday Five: 5 Strangest Complaints About Basketball Games

The Friday Five

Welcome to this week’s edition of The Friday Five! This is a feature that I post every Friday in which I give my thoughts on a topic that’s related to basketball video games, the real NBA or another area of interest to our community, either as a list of five items or in the form of a Top 5 countdown.

It’s just about time for us to start compiling Wishlists for NBA Live 16 and NBA 2K16. While both developments teams obviously have their own roadmaps, it’s important for us to make our voices heard, and let the developers know just how closely their vision gels with our desires and expectations. To that end, it’s important that our feedback be both detailed and constructive.

Of course, every so often, someone throws out a suggestion or makes a complaint about a basketball video game that’s…kind of out there. Having compiled a lot of Wishlists and taken part in many discussions in the Forum over the years, I recall some very strange criticisms being posted every now and again. I thought I’d reflect upon some of them in this week’s Five, starting with…

The Friday Five: 5 Ways Basketball Games Haven’t Improved

The Friday Five

Welcome to this week’s edition of The Friday Five! This is a feature that I post every Friday in which I give my thoughts on a topic that’s related to basketball video games, the real NBA or another area of interest to our community, either as a list of five items or in the form of a Top 5 countdown.

Last week, I talked about the ways in which basketball video games have improved over the years. I still stand by that, and believe it to be true; beyond the advances in graphics and technology that have benefitted video games in general, basketball games have come a long way in replicating the sport. However, there are also still areas in which they leave something to be desired.

That’s what I’m taking a look at this week: five ways that basketball games haven’t improved, or at the very least, haven’t improved to the extent that we would like. They’re the nagging, lingering issues that I believe detract from games that we otherwise enjoy. Issues such as…

NLSC Podcast – Episode #107

NLSC Podcast Logo

Episode #107 of the NLSC Podcast is out now! Arcane and I are your hosts this week, as we catch up on the latest news, start our Wishlists for this year’s games, and discuss the past week in the NBA.

  • We recap the latest content updates for NBA Live 15, which include new rosters and Ultimate Team Legends.
  • Da_Czar has posted another NBA 2K15 play improvements video, this time focusing on handoff plays.
  • In a bizarre turn of events, we’ve both released updates for NBA Live 08!
  • Since it’s a while before NBA Live 16 and NBA 2K16 news starts coming out, we begin our Wishlists.
  • Which features would we take from NBA 2K, and put into NBA Live? Which NBA Live features would we add to NBA 2K?
  • Moving on to the real NBA, both of our favourite teams are struggling. Clearly, we jinxed them.
  • The Rising Stars Challenge is adopting a USA vs The World concept. Do we like that change?
  • Potential participants for this year’s dunk contest have been revealed…but does it matter, if the format is the same as last year?
  • Brandon Jennings has registered the first 20+ point, 20+ assist game since Steve Nash in 2009. Meanwhile, the Playoffs are actually looking like a realistic goal for the Pistons.
  • The Knicks have finally won again. In fact, they have a winning streak going!
  • Shawn Marion has announced his retirement at the end of the season. Will Kobe Bryant join him?
  • Will Ferrell films a movie at a Pelicans game, and Not Bill Walton provides us with another gem to end the episode.

The Friday Five: 2014 Year In Review

The Friday Five

Welcome to this week’s edition of The Friday Five! This is a feature that I post every Friday in which I give my thoughts on a topic that’s related to basketball video games, the real NBA or another area of interest to our community, either as a list of five items or in the form of a Top 5 countdown.

Another year is almost over, and with next Friday being January 2nd, this week marks the final edition of The Friday Five for 2014. It’s certainly been a fun and interesting year here at the NLSC, so I wanted to use this week’s column to reflect on the past twelve months, throw out a couple of “Best Of”/”Editor’s Picks” lists, and look ahead to what’s in store for 2015.

Before I go on, a big thank you to everyone who checks out The Friday Five each week, spreads the word about it on social media, and comments on the articles themselves. I enjoy writing the Five and (hopefully) giving you all something interesting and entertaining to read every week, so I really do appreciate your support of the feature. With that said, let’s get started with the Year In Review of 2014!

The Friday Five: 5 Historical BIG Moments I’d Like To See In NBA Live

The Friday Five

Welcome to this week’s edition of The Friday Five! This is a feature that I post every Friday in which I give my thoughts on a topic that’s related to basketball video games, the real NBA or another area of interest to our community, either as a list of five items or in the form of a Top 5 countdown.

BIG Moments have only been in two iterations of NBA Live to date, but I’m definitely hoping that the mode becomes a staple of the series, as it’s quickly become one of my favourite aspects of the game. I’m liking the improvements and additions that have been made in NBA Live 15, such as the hot spot challenges, scenarios where we’re invited to re-write history, and the wider variety of game situations. If there’s another element I’d like to see added to BIG Moments however, it would be historical challenges.

Now, this would be tricky to pull off, as it would require EA Sports to secure the likeness rights of various retired players. Additionally, the player that I’d most like to see represented in historical BIG Moments – Michael Jordan – is currently signed to an exclusive deal with Visual Concepts, which makes his inclusion in NBA Live impossible. However, let’s put all of that aside for a moment, and pretend that anything and everything is possible. With that in mind, here are the five historical BIG Moments that I’d like to see in NBA Live.

The Friday Five: 5 Ideas for the Future of NBA Live

The Friday Five

Welcome to this week’s edition of The Friday Five! This is a feature that I post every Friday in which I give my thoughts on a topic that’s related to basketball video games, the real NBA or another area of interest to our community, either as a list of five items or in the form of a Top 5 countdown.

Information and preview media for NBA Live 15 is starting to flow more freely, as we’re coming up on a month left until the game’s release. I definitely liked what I saw in the Visuals Trailer, as I feel that the game is looking like a big improvement over NBA Live 14. As I mentioned in Episode #93 of the NLSC Podcast, I’ve pre-ordered my copy of NBA Live 15 and am really looking forward to October 9th, which is when the game will be available here in Australia. If you’re in North America, you can of course get your hands on the game come October 7th.

However, as we see more of and learn more about NBA Live 15, I’m not only eager to get my hands on this year’s game and see how it plays, I’m also thinking about what can be done in future games. After all, as we get a clearer picture of NBA Live 15, we’re also finding out which things have had to go on the backburner during this production cycle, with an eye towards implementing them in NBA Live 16 and beyond. So, for this week’s Friday Five, I’m taking a look at some ideas for the future of the NBA Live series.
