Upcoming NBA Live 16 Interviews; New Screenshot

I’m pleased and excited to announce that we’ll have an opportunity in the coming weeks to conduct some interviews/Q&As with the NBA Live 16 Development Team! Needless to say, we do have a lot of questions in mind already, and I do feel that we have a good grasp of what the community wants to hear about, but to make sure that we’re asking about the things that you’re interested in, we are taking your suggestions!

Please note that we won’t be able to ask every question that’s submitted, and answers are at EA’s discretion – there is a timeframe for when certain features will be discussed, after all – but we’ll certainly take all (serious) suggestions into account. Obviously, we won’t be asking anything that’s rude or disrespectful; these are opportunities that we take seriously, and always intend to approach professionally.

With that said…if you have any questions that you’d like us to ask the NBA Live 16 developers, please feel free to post them in the comments section below, as well as in this thread in the Forum. Stay tuned for those interviews in the not too distant future!

In the meantime, a new NBA Live 16 screenshot has been released, showing off the Atlanta Hawks’ new jerseys in this year’s game. You can check it out below, as well as in our NBA Live 16 screenshots gallery. As always, feel free to add your thoughts in the comments section, and join in all the NBA Live 16 discussion taking place here in the Forum.

Interview with NBA Live 16 Designer Ryan Santos (DualShockers)

DualShockers has posted a new video interview with NBA Live 16 designer Ryan Santos. It doesn’t feature any new gameplay footage (just clips of the first look trailer and some recently released screenshots), but Ryan does talk about the improvements to the gameplay and visuals in this year’s release.

While talking about the player movement, Ryan mentions that the team wanted “the game to come to (the user)”, with players making cuts and getting open, and teams running their real life offenses, without the user needing to call a play every time down the floor. The on-boarding in NBA Live 16 is also touched upon, including the new defensive guideline that you may have seen in some of the E3 gameplay videos. For those who don’t like the look of it, or feel they don’t need it, Ryan does mention that it can be toggled on and off.

Other elements discussed include the AI, on-court chatter related to the current action, the shot meter, dribble handoffs, playcalling, sliders, and the progression in responsiveness and animation quality. Interestingly, Ryan also mentions that new animations will be added to NBA Live 16 post-launch. Check out the full interview below, or watch it here on YouTube if you can’t see the embedded video. As always, feel free to have your say in the comments, as well as in the NBA Live 16 section of the Forum.

NBA Live 16 Gameplay Blog: Freestyle Control & Movement

As promised, today we received a new blog providing us with the latest details on the gameplay in NBA Live 16. The blog doesn’t contain any new in-game footage of NBA Live 16 (just the first look gameplay trailer), but it does include some new screenshots, and provides some in-depth information about Freestyle Control and player movement in this year’s game. The key points of the latest developer blog are as follows:

  • In addition to improved dribbling animations, there is a greater sense of control and responsiveness when performing crossovers and other dribbling moves, as well as chaining moves together.
  • Signature moves and size-ups are no longer automated with the right stick; instead, the user can perform the moves as desired by moving the right stick with one-to-one control. In other words, the user has a choice of moves and the speed at which they are performed.
  • Users no longer have to wait for a shot animation to play out before releasing a jumpshot, so early releases to beat the defense are possible. The new shot meter will provide more information on the quality of the release, teaching you how to shoot the perfect jumper.
  • New inside shots have also been added, including signature dunks and layups. Signature moves such as Jamal Crawford’s stepback jumper are also in NBA Live 16.
  • We can select which teammate comes over for dribble handoffs, which are performed by the B/Circle button. It’s also possible to queue up touch passes to move the ball around more quickly, by pressing the pass button again before a player catches a pass.
  • A new “Catch to Score” system increases responsiveness in NBA Live 16, allowing users to get off shots quicker after receiving the pass, as well as go to the hoop more swiftly and in stride after a catch or cut.
  • Passing animations have been added and improved upon (notably alley-oops). More contextually appropriate passes are also in the game, along with better passes on pick-and-rolls.
  • Speaking of the pick-and-roll, when you call for a pick, screeners actively set themselves up to screen defenders, and adjust themselves to any pre-screen movement. Continuing to hold the LT/L2 button calls for a re-screen, and quickly releasing LT/L2 and pressing it again gets your teammate to set their pick on the other side.
  • Users can also easily switch between a roll and a pop by pressing down on the left stick.

It’s certainly a big info drop, with some pleasing details about control and movement in NBA Live 16. Check out the blog for the full scoop, and take a look at the latest screenshots below, as well as in our NBA Live 16 screenshots gallery. New NBA Live 16 Screenshots, Gameplay News Tomorrow

As previously mentioned, more NBA Live 16 gameplay news is on the way. We’re set to receive some new gameplay information tomorrow, most likely by way of a developer blog. It remains to be seen whether we’ll get any new videos of NBA Live 16 in action, but I would assume that at the very least, a few new screenshots will accompany the new details on gameplay. Once again, I’m also guessing that LIVE Motion will be among the gameplay elements that are discussed.

Speaking of NBA Live 16 screenshots, a couple of new ones have been posted on social media today. The latest screens feature NBA Live 15 cover player Damian Lillard, and the Milwaukee Bucks’ Jabari Parker. Speaking of Parker, EA Sports also posted a “motion” screenshot of him yesterday, taking flight for a dunk. After his devastating ACL injury during his rookie season, I’m sure that Bucks fans – and NBA fans in general – are hoping to see him soaring to the hoop again in the not too distant future.

We’ll be posting the gameplay news after it drops, but in the meantime, check out the latest screenshots below, as well as in our NBA Live 16 gallery. What do you think we’ll be hearing about in tomorrow’s info drop about gameplay? What are some of the things that you want to hear about? More NBA Live 16 Gameplay News Coming; Melo Screenshot

A bulletin has been posted over on the official NBA Live Facebook page, teasing that some more NBA Live 16 gameplay info will be coming our way later this week. Developer blogs tend to be released Thursday or Friday, and I’d speculate that LIVE Motion will be one of the next things that the NBA Live 16 development team will be discussing in detail.

With any luck, there’ll be some preview media (ideally more gameplay footage) accompanying gameplay info drop. In the meantime, a new screenshot featuring Carmelo Anthony has been posted on the official NBA Live social media accounts. You can check it out below, as well as over in our NBA Live 16 screenshots gallery.

NBA Live 16 Q&A Videos by TicoisTocory

We’re still waiting for the next NBA Live 16 info drop from EA Sports, but in the meantime, have you checked out some of the latest videos from TicoisTocory? As previously mentioned, the popular YouTuber was in attendance at E3 and spent a considerable amount of time playing NBA Live 16, in order to provide in-depth impressions, as well as offer up answers to basketball gamers with questions about this year’s offering from EA.

Four Key Upgrades to Gameplay in NBA Live 16

EA’s Live to Play blog has posted a new article which details four key upgrades to gameplay in NBA Live 16. There is some overlap with the previous gameplay blog that was posted over on the official NBA Live site, but there are still some interesting notes about a few of the improvements that have been made in NBA Live 16.

The blog emphasies the smoothness of the gameplay, from dribbling and driving to passing and squaring up for a shot on the catch. It also mentions improvements to animations across the board, revealing that more mo-cap shoots have taken place than ever before. Furthermore, a lot of the motion capture sessions have simply involved five-on-five basketball, with the aim of achieving a more natural and realistic look in NBA Live 16.

The introduction of LIVE Motion in NBA Live 16 has also seen the addition of over 8000 new animations, and an increase in both physicality and awareness for all ten players on the court. Finally, Executive Producer Sean O’Brien mentions that the team listens to fan feedback “religiously”, reiterating the importance of constructive feedback from NBA Live gamers.

A new screenshot featuring Kyrie Irving has also been released along with the blog, which you can see below; you can also find it over in our NBA Live 16 screenshot gallery. As always, feel free to have your say in the comments section below, and join in the discussion in our NBA Live 16 Forum.

NBA Live 16 Visuals Blog; New Screenshots

A new NBA Live 16 developer blog has been posted over on the official website, discussing improvements to the visuals in this year’s game. Key points include:

  • The 3D scanning process continues to be refined, so that the player and coach faces, as well as jerseys, shoes, socks, environments and everything else that they are scanning, will look better and better.
  • Attention has been paid to improving facial animations, so that players will show more expression, looking mad, dejected, thrilled, and so forth.
  • Overhauls to the facial animation system have also endeavoured to avoid players having that infamous “dead” look in their eyes. This also includes skin movement on top of cheek, brow, chin, and jaw bones.
  • The lighting has also been overhauled, with every single asset worked on from an illumination perspective. Colour correction was also a focus, with the goal of achieving a broadcast-quality look and feel.
  • Jersey colours and skin tones have also been improved, meaning better skin textures and sweat effects.
  • While this has been described as the culmination of a three year plan to improve NBA Live’s graphics, the blog mentions that the team is just getting started, and the improvements to visuals won’t end with NBA Live 16.

As you’d expect, a few new screenshots have been released along with the latest developer blog, which you can check out below. I’ve also added them to our NBA Live 16 screenshots gallery.

Any thoughts on the latest NBA Live 16 developer blog, and the way that the visuals are shaping up? What other improvements to the aesthetics are you hoping to see in NBA Live 16? Sound off in the comments section below, and join in the discussion in our NBA Live 16 Forum!

More NBA Live 16 News, Gameplay, Interviews

NBA Live 16 news, gameplay footage, and interviews have been steadily coming through all week, thanks to the game’s presence at E3 2015. We’ve been covering most of the developments as they’ve happened, including a Twitter Q&A with NBA Live 16 Executive Producer Sean O’Brien, the first official gameplay trailer, and IGN’s gameplay demo. We’ve also posted a couple of interviews by YouTubers who were on the floor at E3, which you can check out here.

There are still a couple of NBA Live 16 news items to report on though, as well as some more gameplay footage and interviews to check out. First of all, Prime has posted a sixteen minute video featuring NBA Live 16 gameplay, as well as his commentary coming out of E3. There are also a couple of new interviews to check out, as TheFlightMike chatted with Ryan Santos, and SportsGamerShow talked to Connor Dougan.

Check out those videos below for more insight into the work that’s gone into NBA Live 16’s gameplay. In other NBA Live 16 news, I’m reliably informed that the build on display at E3 was an outdated alpha, and not indicative of the version currently being worked on in the studio; definitely something to keep in mind as we evaluate the gameplay footage that we’ve seen so far. As always, I invite you share your thoughts on the latest NBA Live 16 news and developments in the comments section below, as well as join in the discussion in the NBA Live 16 Forum. NBA Live 16 Gameplay Demo (IGN)

IGN has posted an NBA Live 16 gameplay demo from E3 2015, in which they also chat with developers Connor Dougan and Ryan Santos. The video runs for about eight minutes and contains raw NBA Live 16 gameplay footage, highlighting some of the improvements that have been made this year. One of the key aspects of NBA Live 16 gameplay demonstrated in the video is the enhanced off-ball movement, physics, and AI involved with LIVEmotion. The video also shows off the new visual cues that indicate the optimal release point on both jumpshots and free throws, and reveals an additional defensive guideline in the player indicator. Connor and Ryan also touch on signature animations, from jumpshot styles to dribbling and size-ups, and mention improvements to the commentary and presentation.

Overall, it’s definitely a solid look at the key NBA Live 16 gameplay features and improvements, so be sure to check it out here on IGN.com, here on YouTube, or embedded below.
