The Friday Five: Top 5 Favourite NBA Seasons

Friday has rolled around again, so I present to you the latest edition of The Friday Five! If this is your first time checking out The Friday Five and you’re wondering what it’s all about, this is a feature that I post every Friday in which I give my thoughts on a topic that’s related to basketball video games, the real NBA or another area of interest to our community, either as a list of five items or in the form of a Top 5 countdown.

We’re now just a few weeks away from the start of the 2013/2014 NBA season. With Derrick Rose back in action, an extra game on ESPN Australia every week and a lot of interesting match-ups and subplots to look forward to, I’m already getting excited for a new year of basketball. Before the 2014 season tips off however, I thought I’d take a look back at some of my favourite seasons from years gone by, a couple of which aren’t actually years where the Chicago Bulls won the championship. So, without any further ado, here is a countdown of my Top 5 Favourite NBA Seasons.

  • An interview with GamingBolt has revealed that FIBA teams will not be making an appearance in NBA Live 14. Are we upset?
  • Why is Andrew still playing NBA 2K13 PC? Why did he buy it again off Steam when he already has the disc version?
  • JaoSming, on the other hand, does have NBA 2K14 PC. After a week with the game, he has more impressions to share.
  • A whole lot of modding plans are discussed, with JaoSming outlining the projects he’s got lined up.
  • The NBA preseason is getting us excited for another year of basketball. There’s been quite a few highlight plays so far, plus the long-awaited return of Derrick Rose.

  • Last week’s First Look trailer for NBA Live 14 provided us with our first proper glimpse of the game in action. We give our thoughts on what we saw and what we want to see.
  • We also have a second NBA Live 14 screenshot to scrutinise. We’re satisfied with the shoes, but what about some other important details?

  • Reviews for NBA 2K14 current gen are beginning to come out. We give our reactions and talk about some of the things that still concern us.
  • The lack of certain features in NBA 2K14 and the absence of a demo have been unpleasant surprises for the community. Is communication an issue for 2K?

NLSC Podcast – Episode #35

It’s episode #35 of the NLSC Podcast! Leftos couldn’t join us again this week, so once again Ben and I pull a LeBron and Wade to get the job done. The last week has seen some interesting news for both basketball games, the 2013 NBA Draft and the beginning of another offseason, so there’s plenty for us to talk about in this week’s show.

  • Gameplay designer Scott O’Gallagher hosted a Q&A on the official NBA Live Twitter account last Thursday. We had questions about NBA Live 14 and got some pretty interesting answers, which we break down.
  • On the other side of things, we’ve seen our first glimpse of NBA 2K14 on PlayStation 3 and discovered that 14 Euroleague teams will be in the game. Are we excited for that?
  • The 2013 NBA Draft brought a few surprises. How awesome was David Stern’s trolling of the Brooklyn crowd?
  • Indecision 2.0 is in full swing. Since we can’t get enough of predictions, we consider where Dwight Howard might be headed, before taking a look at some other noteworthy moves.
  • Don Mattrick’s move, another gem from Microsoft, Leisure Suit Larry and of course The Last of Us all get a mention as we finish up with some talk about other video games.

Internet troubles ended up knocking out one of our panelists this week, but two of us press on to talk about some of our favourite subjects…well, mostly basketball and video games. With Leftos on the sideline, Ben and I hold down the fort as we give our thoughts on the latest video game news, the conclusion of the 2013 NBA Finals and the upcoming offseason.

New Poll: Rate the 2012/2013 NBA Season

With the Miami Heat winning their second straight championship, the 2012/2013 NBA season is now in the books. What are your thoughts on last season? How would you rate it? Cast your vote in our new poll and be sure to join in all of the discussion of the 2012/2013 season, the 2013 Playoffs and NBA Finals and of course, the upcoming offseason in the NBA & Basketball section of the NLSC Forum.

Our last poll asked the obvious question of who would win the 2013 NBA Championship. 46% of voters correctly predicted the Miami Heat to win it all, while a slight majority of 54% obviously picked the Spurs. Interestingly, our poll for last year’s NBA Finals yielded a very similar result, with only 45% of voters picking the Heat to win while the remaining 55% picked the Oklahoma City Thunder.

The Friday Five: 5 Thoughts on MJ & LeBron Comparisons

Welcome to this week’s edition of The Friday Five! For those of you who may be unfamiliar with The Friday Five, this is a weekly feature that I post on Fridays in which I pick a topic that’s related to basketball video games, the real NBA or another area of interest to our community, then give my thoughts on the matter as either a list of five items or in the form of a Top 5 countdown.

I had originally intended to return to talking about basketball video games this week, but with E3 2013 right around the corner, a couple of the topics I have in mind should probably wait until we’ve caught another glimpse or two of this year’s titles. Additionally, with LeBron James and the Miami Heat back in the NBA Finals, another topic has piqued my interest, namely the inevitable comparisons to Michael Jordan. Having caught a couple of interesting comments on Twitter and from various sportswriters, I felt compelled to offer five thoughts on the comparisons between the greatest player in the league right now and the player that many consider to be the greatest of all-time.
