NLSC Podcast – Episode #90 (Sean O’Brien Interview)

NLSC Podcast Logo

We’re pleased to present a special episode of the NLSC Podcast this week, as JaoSming and I had the opportunity to chat with NBA Live 15 Executive Producer, Sean O’Brien. Sean very kindly gave us a little over two hours of his time, in which he spoke very honestly about the return of the series with NBA Live 14, the team’s goals with future releases, and of course, some of the things that we can expect in NBA Live 15.

On that note, Sean gave us a lot of great info on this year’s game, including details on controls and responsiveness, physics, locomotion and animation quality, AI improvements, and enhancements to the shooting mechanics. Sean also clarified a few points about the future of game modes such as Dynasty and Rising Star, while also answering our questions about this year’s practice facilities, content updates, and even the possibility of NBA Live 14 getting further roster updates before NBA Live 15 comes out.

That’s just the tip of the iceberg, so don’t delay any longer: click Play to listen to the show!

A huge thanks to Sean once again for coming on the Podcast! As always, we welcome your thoughts on this week’s show, either in the comments below, or here in the Forum. We also invite you to join in the discussion taking place in the NBA Live 15 section of the Forum.

NLSC Podcast – Episode #89

NLSC Podcast Logo

It’s that time of the week again, so I invite you to join JaoSming and myself for Episode #89 of the NLSC Podcast! Tune in for discussion of the latest NBA Live 15 screenshot, the return of Crew Mode in NBA 2K15, a few new modding developments, and some NBA offseason tidbits.

  • We got a glimpse of the new official NBA basketball in NBA Live 15. Does JaoSming like it more than NBA Live 14’s rock?
  • The actual Crew Mode that gamers loved and missed will be returning in NBA 2K15 on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Are we excited about that?
  • Footage of NBA 2K15 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One might be coming by the end of the week. With it being an Instagram video, we’re trying to keep our expectations low.
  • In modding news this week: JaoSming’s latest project, a new development by TGsoGood, and more good stuff with the Ultimate Base Roster.
  • We reflect on the latest Beat Jao challenge and last week’s Friday Five.
  • Former WNBA star Becky Hammon has been hired by the San Antonio Spurs as a full-time assistant coach, breaking down another barrier in the NBA.
  • Derrick Rose has had a fine showing in the Team USA scrimmages. The big news coming out last week however is Paul George’s gruesome injury…yikes.
  • We discuss the possibility of stars no longer competing in non-NBA events, and get nostalgic for days gone by.
  • It seems that Kevin Love is heading to Cleveland, which is making interviews for Andrew Wiggins somewhat awkward.
  • Free agent talk, the retirement of Dick Bavetta, and a few other offseason topics are covered.
  • We close with a short discussion of Brian Scalabrine’s essay. Admittedly, our words cannot do it justice.

NLSC Podcast – Episode #88

NLSC Podcast Logo

It’s a brand new dynamic duo this week, as JaoSming and I host Episode #88 of the NLSC Podcast! Tune in for all the latest NBA Live, NBA 2K, NBA and modding chatter.

  • EA Access memberships will give Xbox One gamers the opportunity to play an early trial of NBA Live 15. As PlayStation 4 users, do we feel left out?
  • Big NBA 2K15 news is apparently coming next week. Surely, not another announcement of an announcement?
  • NBA 2K15 will also be playable at Gamescom this year. We can only imagine that several people will break the “no video” rule, giving us a glimpse of the game in action.
  • We comment on the latest rumours of NBA 2K15 PC being a next gen port. Our fingers are still crossed as tightly as possible.
  • One of us scored big with the latest NBA 2K14 Random Locker Code; the other, not so much.
  • As this year’s hype train prepares to pull out of the station, we discuss whether or not we’re excited to be along for the ride.
  • Catching up on some community news, we talk about recent modding developments, as well as our weekly features.
  • LeBron James is going back to #23. Another famous #23 is OK with that, and so are we.
  • There’s a lot of optimism with Derrick Rose at the moment…but weren’t we saying that last year?
  • James Harden and Dwight Howard get our sarcastic nod for Teammates of the Year.
  • Proposed changes to the Draft Lottery, a new head of the NBPA, and Steve Nash round out our NBA discussion.

NLSC Podcast Logo

Join Arcane, JaoSming and myself for Episode #87 of the NLSC Podcast! We’re coming at you a little later than usual this week, but the delay has allowed us to cover a few additional news items.

  • We give our thoughts on the info that came out of FanSided’s interview with NBA Live 15 Executive Producer Sean O’Brien.
  • The cover design of NBA 2K15 has been revealed, along with the curator of its soundtrack. Does that make us Happy?
  • JaoSming’s “Beat Jao” challenges have received a great response so far. Not to be left out, The Friday Five gets a shameless plug.
  • We provide a quick round-up of some recent news and developments in the modding community, for both NBA Live and NBA 2K.
  • It’s time once again for us to play fashion critics! Gold championship tabs on jersey collars: yea or nay?
  • The NBA offseason is grinding to a standstill with the big names off the market, but we find a few things to discuss, including the latest speculation surrounding Kevin Love.
  • We wrap up Episode #87 with another fun fact.

NLSC Podcast – Episode #86

NLSC Podcast Logo

Episode #86 of the NLSC Podcast is out now, as Arcane, JaoSming and I return to the virtual booth after taking last week off. As a result, we have far more signings to talk about, and far fewer predictions to potentially embarrass ourselves with.

  • We still find ourselves in the calm before the storm as far as NBA Live 15 and NBA 2K15 news is concerned, but we do have a couple of tidbits to mention, including a giveaway, more player face scans, and a couple of rumours that have been making the rounds.
  • JaoSming will be debuting a new Tuesday feature, which should be fun for us all as we wait for the new games to come out…or indeed, news on them to come along.
  • In this week’s modding discussion, we talk about the speedy updates to the Ultimate Base Roster for NBA 2K14 PC, R4zoR’s outstanding cyberface tutorial, upcoming projects by JaoSming, and some RED MC notes.
  • We tip off the NBA discussion with the biggest story of the offseason: LeBron James’ return to the Cleveland Cavaliers. What do we make of the situation, and how good will the Cavaliers be this season?
  • Can Chris Bosh now be The Man in Miami? Will Dwyane Wade stick around?
  • Carmelo Anthony has re-signed with the New York Knicks, leading JaoSming to make a bold prediction.
  • As we discuss the other player movement that’s taken place so far, we question the criticism of bandwagoning, and wonder whether it’s acceptable to follow players rather than teams.
  • Several noteworthy role players are still free agents, so yes, we go ahead and make some predictions.
  • We wrap up the show on another amusing Tweet, thanks to Skip Bayless.

Mailbag Call for Episode #86 of the NLSC Podcast

NLSC Podcast Logo

With NBA Live 15 and NBA 2K15 news being very slow at the moment, and a flurry of free agent signings likely to become official as soon as we wrap up recording, we’ve decided to eighty-six Episode #86 of the NLSC Podcast this week. We’ll instead be recording and releasing Episode #86 next week, hopefully with some gaming news to discuss, but if nothing else, we’ll have the NBA offseason to chat about.

We’d also like to run another listener mailbag in the next episode, so I’m inviting everyone to submit their questions, comments, and topic suggestions, either in the comments below or in this thread in the NLSC Hub section of the Forum. In the meantime, be sure to catch up on Episode #85 if you missed it last week!

NLSC Podcast – Episode #85

NLSC Podcast Logo

Join Arcane, JaoSming and myself for another installment of the NLSC Podcast! In Episode #85, we discuss the lack of NBA Live 15 and NBA 2K15 news, some false information that’s making the rounds, and the beginning of the 2014 NBA free agent frenzy.

  • No NBA Live 15 or NBA 2K15 news this week, but we reflect on the letdown that was last week’s NBA 2K15 hashtag campaign.
  • For all the retro gamers in the audience, a new update has been released for NBA Live 96 on Genesis. We’re impressed with the amount of work that’s gone into it.
  • JaoSming outlines his plans for a new series on his YouTube channel this Summer, featuring NBA 2K14 PC. He promises not to mislabel it for additional views.
  • Do we anticipate playing much of NBA Live 14 and NBA 2K14 during the offseason?
  • Speaking of NBA Live 14, the winners of our giveaway have been selected.
  • In light of recent comments by Peter Moore, we revisit the dreaded business models of “free to play” and “free to wait”.
  • We give our reactions to the 2014 NBA Draft. Not surprisingly, one of us had a prediction that was way off.
  • The Chicago Bulls have made a strong pitch to Carmelo Anthony, but will he end up in the Windy City? We ponder that question, and discuss some deals that have already been agreed to.
  • While discussing Jason Kidd’s jump from the Brooklyn Nets to the Milwaukee Bucks, a new euphemism is coined.
  • We wrap up the episode with an entertaining Tweet from Muggsy Bogues.

NLSC Podcast – Episode #84

NLSC Podcast Logo

Join Arcane, JaoSming and myself for Episode #84 of the NLSC Podcast, in which we discuss the latest NBA Live 15 news, a rumour that’s making the rounds, RED MC news, the 2014 NBA Draft, and a few other topics we felt like chatting about this week.

  • We open this week’s episode with the latest details on RED MC. The .iff editing functionality has some teething problems, but awesome stuff is on the way.
  • Before we started recording, some new screenshots of NBA Live 15 were released, once again spotlighting the graphical improvements in this year’s game.
  • We’ll be hearing more about NBA Live 15’s gameplay come August, but in the meantime, we talk about a rumour that began circulating earlier in the day.
  • Arcane finally has the full version of NBA Live 14! As such, he provides some initial impressions of the complete game.
  • A reminder that if you want to get your hands on a free copy of NBA Live 14, be sure to enter our giveaway before July 1st!
  • Some NBA 2K15 news will be coming this Friday. We certainly hope that it will be substantial, and not an announcement of an announcement, nor more NBA 2K14 footage.
  • Will we ever see college basketball and football games from EA again? EA is definitely interested in developing them, should all legal barriers be cleared.
  • We give our thoughts on the Charlotte Hornets’ new uniforms. Hooray for no sleeved alternates!
  • LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony have opted out of their contracts, while Tim Duncan will return for one more year. We react and speculate.
  • Trade talks that would have sent Kevin Love to Golden State have fallen apart. Where do we currently think that he, and other big names, will ultimately end up?
  • We make some final predictions before the 2014 NBA Draft, and JaoSming provides a fun piece of trivia to close the show on.

The NBA Finals have concluded, bringing about an end to the 2014 season, however the offseason and NBA video game preview season are both just getting started. Join Arcane, JaoSming and myself as we discuss the Finals, NBA Live 15 news, and more in Episode #83 of the NLSC Podcast!

  • We recap and react to the latest NBA Live 15 news, as the Twitter Q&A with Sean O’Brien provided us with some interesting (and promising) tidbits.
  • Do we think we’ll see any NBA Live 15 previews during the Draft? What about NBA 2K15?
  • As another exciting preview season looms, we reflect on JaoSming’s latest Dumb Mondays article, which talked about the pessimism and cynicism that previews can often bring about.
  • JaoSming provides another quick update on RED MC and the modding community.
  • The 2014 NBA Finals are in the books, and the San Antonio Spurs have dethroned the Miami Heat to capture title number five. A couple of us were particularly happy to see that.
  • What’s next for the Heat  and Spurs? Will we see a rubber match? And where is Carmelo Anthony going to end up?
  • We wrap up the show by offering a few final thoughts on the 2014 season, and rate our enjoyment of it accordingly.

  • We react to the NBA Live 15 Open Letter from Executive Producer Sean O’Brien, as well as the “Most Valuable Players” TV spot for NBA 2K15.
  • The first screenshot of NBA Live 15 was released earlier this week, and it shows a huge improvement over NBA Live 14. We give our impressions, and talk about some of the community’s reactions.
  • Since JaoSming is back on the show this week, we have another status report on IFF editing in RED MC.
  • We give our thoughts on the NBA Finals so far. We’re all sticking with our original predictions.
  • As tiresome as the story has become, we once again weigh in on the latest controversy surrounding Donald Sterling and the sale of the Los Angeles Clippers.
  • Derek Fisher, Mark Price, Kevin Love, Patty Mills, and a couple of topics from the NBA Reddit round out this week’s NBA discussion.
  • E3 didn’t give us any juicy information about this year’s NBA titles, but there are a few other games that we’re interested in. We wrap up the show with a few thoughts on some noteworthy stories coming out of this year’s event.

Join Arcane and I as we speculate on NBA Live 15 and NBA 2K15, cover a couple of other news items from the past week, and make our predictions for the rematch between the San Antonio Spurs and Miami Heat.

  • We open with a couple of housekeeping notes regarding future episodes of the Podcast, the Wiki, and a celebration of the 20th Anniversary of NBA Live.
  • A few more issues have arisen with the NBA Live 14 rosters, but a new update will apparently be coming through at some point. We’ve also been told that these issues should be ironed out for NBA Live 15.
  • Neither NBA Live 15 or NBA 2K15 have been officially announced for E3, but we expect there’ll be some news coming out of the event. We speculate on what we might see.
  • We’ll be getting a look at NBA 2K15 during Game 1 of the NBA Finals. “OMG Trailer” Part Two, perhaps?
  • We’re holding our last NBA 2K14 Steam key giveaway. Get your entries in before next Wednesday!
  • Moving on to this week’s NBA discussion, we recap and react to the end of the Conference Finals. What’s next for the Oklahoma City Thunder and Indiana Pacers?
  • Because we’re so good at predictions, we make our picks for the rematch between the Miami Heat and San Antonio Spurs.
  • The Los Angeles Clippers could soon be sold for $2 billion, but Donald Sterling is looking to sue the NBA. We take another look at the controversy and the “freedom of speech” arguments that are being made.
  • On that note, we discuss some comments by Mark Jackson that have recently come to light, which may have ultimately cost him his coaching job with the Golden State Warriors.
  • Looking ahead to the offseason for a moment, we consider some of the big moves that might happen. Yes, we make some more predictions!
  • We wrap up the show with some talk about a few other games that we’re interested in at the moment.

  • JaoSming has achieved a dream by buying the Boston Celtics…in NBA 2K14 next gen’s MyGM mode. Was it worth all the VC?

NLSC Podcast – Episode #79

NLSC Podcast Logo

The 2014 NBA Playoffs roll on, NBA 2K14 has received a new patch, and the latest Draft Lottery has inspired more talk of conspiracies. Join Arcane and I as we discuss all that and more in Episode #79 of the NLSC Podcast!

  • There isn’t much in the way of NBA Live news at the moment, though voting for the NBA Live 14 Gamer of the Year has reached the second round. New challenges also continue to be added to Ultimate Team.
  • The fifth patch is out now for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of NBA 2K14. We have to admit, it’s more substantial than we expected.
  • 11 new Euroleague Teams will be added in NBA 2K15. Do we think they’ll get their own mode, and/or integration with the current game modes?
  • In some housekeeping notes, we remind everyone that we’re looking for knowledgeable basketball gamers to help us expand our Wiki resources.
  • JaoSming’s NBA Street mod for NBA 2K14 PC has been released, and we encourage you to check it out!
  • It’s down to the final four as the 2014 NBA Playoffs have reached the Conference Finals. We talk about the first couple of games, and give our predictions for the rest of the series.
  • The Cleveland Cavaliers have won the Draft Lottery for the third time in four years. Are we buying into the conspiracy talk?
  • Kevin Love’s days in Minnesota appear to be numbered. Will we be seeing a repeat of the “Dwightmare”, and will we all be calling it “Lovesickness”?
  • The Charlotte Hornets are officially back, with their new logos and the original team’s history and records. We have to say, it’s been a lot better handled than the Melbourne Tigers’ re-branding.

NLSC Podcast – Episode #77

We may be at least a few weeks away from the NBA video game preview season, but we do actually have some news on this year’s games to discuss in Episode #77 of the NLSC Podcast. Join Arcane, JaoSming, and myself as we talk NBA Live 15 and NBA 2K15, NBA Live 14 and NBA 2K14, modding developments, and of course, the 2014 NBA Playoffs.

  • NBA Live 15 has been confirmed, but unfortunately, it’s console only. We briefly mourn that fact, but pledge to campaign on behalf of the PC platform if the opportunity arises.
  • Similarly, NBA 2K15 is already available to pre-order, on the same platforms as last year. The price of the PC version leads us to speculate on a next gen port.
  • Kevin Durant has been confirmed as the cover player for NBA 2K15, the same day he was named the NBA’s Most Valuable Player. With NBA Live 15’s cover player still yet to be announced, we throw out a couple of suggestions.
  • Speaking of this year’s games, we also talk about some of the predictions that JaoSming made in his most recent Dumb Mondays feature.
  • A second Steam key for NBA 2K14 PC is up for grabs. Get your entries in before next week’s show!
  • In a quick modding round-up, JaoSming has some news on RED MC, and bigh0rt gets some more love for the NBA JAM 2K14 mod.
  • Moving on to this week’s NBA discussion, we give our thoughts on the latest award winners to be announced.
  • We’re coming off one of the most exciting first rounds in NBA Playoffs history. Will the second round be just as entertaining?
  • A couple of other recent stories are discussed, including a possible return to Toronto for Vince Carter, and the firing of Mark Jackson.
  • We wrap up the show with a couple of quick mailbag questions.
