  • Reviews of the new PlayStation 4 and Xbox One controllers lead to some discussion on which one we think we’d prefer.
  • Who are the biggest winners and losers of E3 2013?
  • What was our favourite aspect of E3? What was our biggest disappointment?

NLSC Podcast – E3 2013 Special (Part 1)

E3 2013 is upon us, so we’re coming at you with a series of special editions of the NLSC Podcast this week. Join Leftos, Ben and myself for Part 1, in which we recap a couple of news items from last week before discussing all the information and previews coming out of the four press conferences at Day 0 of E3.

  • The cover player for NBA 2K14 has been revealed and it’s LeBron James.
  • On the other side of things, a new NBA Live 14 producer interview was posted and another teaser was added to the official website.
  • We tip off the E3 discussion with our thoughts on the NBA 2K14 Next Gen Reveal Trailer, featuring pre-alpha gameplay footage.
  • We also contrast, compare and react to the NBA Live 14 trailer, which featured CGI and in-game assets rather than gameplay clips.
  • The Microsoft and Sony press conferences are recapped and discussed. Bet you’ll never guess which console we’re leaning towards.
  • We mention a couple of other games that captured our interest during the press conferences.

Join us this week as we recap a few news and notes from the community, talk about the 2013 Conference Finals and offer more thoughts on the next generation of consoles. On tap this week:

  • Leftos is back, as not even wild sandstorms can suppress his passion for his digital broadcasting duties!

  • How do we see the Eastern Conference Finals and potential NBA Finals matchups playing out?
  • At the risk of sounding unoriginal, we don’t care for the job the referees are doing, or the way certain players are flopping.
  • The discussion moves to the latest news and info surrounding the next gen consoles. Leftos offers his reactions to the announcement of the Xbox One.
  • We close with some additional NBA Live and NBA 2K news.

NLSC Podcast – Episode #30

After featuring our biggest panel last week in our longest episode to date, we’re down to a duo this week as illness and personal matters rule out a couple of regulars. Nevertheless, please join Ben and myself as we discuss the latest NBA Live 14 news, talk next gen consoles and get caught up on the latest NBA news and results.

  • Without much in the way of community news this week, we dive straight into this week’s headlines.
  • We give our thoughts on EA Sports’ pre-rendered trailers, how much we can take from them and what we want to see in further previews of NBA Live 14.
  • I have a thing or two to say on the use of the words “cartoonish” and “cartoony” when critiquing basketball video games.
  • Microsoft has revealed their next gen console, the Xbox One. We rundown the specs and offer our reactions.
  • Moving on to the NBA discussion, we’ve arrived at the Conference Finals. Who’s making it through to the championship round?

  • We finish up by reading some of your thoughts on last week’s topic, realism in basketball games compared to what we see on TV. Thanks for your input!

Podcast Discussion: Realism of Video Games vs What We See on TV

The main topic of discussion in next week’s episode of the NLSC Podcast is going to be the level of realism that we see in basketball video games compared to what we actually see when watching the NBA on TV. We’re hoping to have a larger panel than usual and are looking forward to putting out an interesting show for you all.

We’re also interested in getting your thoughts on the matter, so that we can read them out during our discussion in Episode #29. How would you rate the realism we’ve seen in basketball games, when making a comparison to what we see on TV? How close is it to representing the real sport? How much realism do you want to see, or believe there needs to be in basketball games? Sound off in the comments below or have your say here in the Forum!
