question 1 i see you dont really mention nba 2k5 that much what did you guys overall think of it and was it better then nba live 2005

and the second one is would most sports companies be better off simply making ultimate teams in there sports game a seperate game entirely as a online download and make it free to play with microtransaction and focus on there actual retail sports title as well?

and finally what was your overall thoughts on nba live 09 on ps2

wait one last one have you guys ever played the nba jam games by acclaim on n64 when they tried to make it more serious and what was your thoughts on them thank you

NLSC Podcast #370: MyTEAM Card Tricks

Hosts: Andrew & Dee4Three

After last week's show, we were inspired to spend some more time with NBA Live 2001, and have a few more thoughts to share. A couple of options from the game also bring to mind suggestions for additional roster management functions and MyNBA settings. Our main discussion this week focuses on MyTEAM, specifically issues with overpowered cards. We note how it encourages NBA 2K's pushy recurrent revenue mechanics, waters down the gameplay with an homogenised experience, and misrepresents NBA history. Notably, the issues also extend beyond MyTEAM into MyCAREER. In this week's mailbag, we're talking about Blacktop, as well as the idea of trash talking mechanics.

amazing show loved listening to it as always

and one ore question if that is ok

Do you think nba live would have lost all of its momentum if instead of releasing nba live 06 on 360 at all just held off like ea canada did with the nhl franchise would that extra year made live 07 better and possibly have helped nba live hold on to the top spot for a couple extra years?

NLSC Podcast #371: Hold The Guacamole

Hosts: Andrew & Dee4Three

We've both caught the modding bug, but one of us has been far more motivated and productive than the other. Of course, that doesn't stop us from making lofty plans for roster projects! A recent Tweet by the EA Playtesting account offers a glimmer of hope for the future of NBA Live, though we're wary about reading too much into it. Meanwhile, polls on Twitter and Reddit have made it clear how the community feels about the prospect of shot aiming in NBA 2K22...and invited toxic responses from the online elitists. In this week's mailbag, we're reminiscing about ESPN NBA 2K5 and NBA Live 2005, and discussing the idea of MyTEAM being released as a standalone game.

Great show as always last week again sorry for the late reply work was insane busy last week I think you guys explained it best why My team shouldnt go into a seperate mode i kinda looked at it more as someday 2k might go the Madden route nd just go all in on my team and my player and cut back on franchise mode features and leave it unchanged for years or something and focus on those two modes if there all included in the game or something so it was just a random thought.

Also for a extra question as well do you guys tend to continue to buy newer sports titles on old gen when they came out such as 2k6 through 2k12 on ps2 or 2k15 to 2k18 on ps3?

Hopefully 2K doesn't lose any depth from its franchise modes, even if they don't necessarily expand on them much further. I think with some of the people who are working on that part of the game, it'll always have a good presence, even if it's not the focus anymore. Glad to hear you enjoyed the show!

Thanks for the new question too, I've added it to the bag!

NLSC Podcast #372: Sports Gaming vs. Competitive Gaming

Hosts: Andrew & Dee4Three

Roster editing has come to Basketball Classics, and we're very impressed with what Josh and Dave have managed to implement. Meanwhile, the latest patch for NBA 2K21 Next Gen is slightly less exciting, but nevertheless contains a couple of important fixes. Taking a suggestion from Twitter, this week's main discussion concerns the difference between sports gaming and competitive gaming, and the effects that the latter has had on the NBA 2K series. We talk about how gameplay and the online scene in NBA 2K could improve, and how NBA Live could capitalise on the situation. In this week's mailbag, we reflect on Acclaim's NBA Jam games, and the quality of sequels.

Last minute Mailbag Call for Episode #373! As always, whatever's left in the bag will be held over for a future show.

Also, this is short notice, but we'll be recording a podcast with our old friend Leftos! As you know, Leftos now works for Visual Concepts, and is heavily involved in the development of the franchise modes (MyLEAGUE, MyGM, and now MyNBA). If you've got any questions you'd like to throw out there for us to ask him, please let us know ASAP.

NLSC Podcast #373: Shiver With Anticipation

Hosts: Andrew & Dee4Three

Our first foray into playing NBA 2K17 head to head using Parsec and Steam Remote Play didn't go as well as we hoped, but we're not giving up just yet. Following up on the announcement that prompted our main discussion in Episode #368, the PlayStation 3 Store is remaining open, preserving NBA Jam: On Fire Edition a little longer. Although the preview season is still months away, we've been thinking about past innovations that changed basketball gaming, and what would excite us for NBA 2K22. Surprisingly, it's still not shoelace physics! In this week's mailbag, we're taking a look back at NBA Live 09 on PlayStation 2, and discuss buying prior gen games after we've moved on to a new console.

caught the show last week awesome show and thank you for answering my questions so far

so question 1 would be in live 14 did you happen to see the hilarious character model of giannis in the game? which leads me to what were some of the most off cherecter models of player have you seen in nba live or nba 2k?

2 would be if nba live did come out since there are rumors of moving the nhl series to the frostbite engine im assuming nba live would follow suit what would your reaction and thoughts be on that considering the very mixed reception both madden and fifa on this the only positive i could possibly see is nba live would finally be able to go back to pc. So i just want to know your guys reaction of this would be.

3 i was wondering if any of you played the last nba courtside that was on gamecube i think it was nba courtside 2002 and what was your guys thoughts on that?

NLSC Podcast #374: Contractual Obligations

Hosts: Andrew & Dee4Three

It warms our hearts that gamers are still interested in watching User vs. User gameplay videos! Sadly, not everyone is open to the idea of playing on broadcast camera angles, but gatekeepers gonna gatekeep. Reports that Luka Doncic has broken his contract with EA Sports to sign with 2K Sports have caused a stir this week. We discuss the speculation, and reflect on what it might mean - if anything - for the fortunes and future of NBA Live. In this week's mailbag, we're taking another look back at the rough start for NBA Live on Xbox 360, and talking about Tecmo NBA Basketball and Tecmo Super NBA Basketball.

NLSC Podcast #375: The Gold Standard of Retro Hoops Gaming

Hosts: Andrew & Dee4Three

The announced lineup for EA Play 2021 doesn't include NBA Live, which has given life to more speculation and clickbait. We share our thoughts on the situation, and our expectations regarding any surprise announcements. We've also been having a lot of fun playing NBA Live 10 over Parsec, and while it makes us wistful at times, it's also given us a new appreciation for the game. Raja Bell has also become a virtual hardwood legend. In the mailbag this week, we're talking about the effect that basketball gaming discourse has on opinions and enjoyment, as well as some of the worst cyberfaces throughout the years.

NLSC Podcast #376: Showtime on the Virtual Hardwood

Hosts: Andrew & Dee4Three

An idea for an NBA Live 10 game over Parsec resulted in an epic clash that produced some memorable highlights for us both. On that note, the return of the NLSC Top 10 Plays of the Week has us thinking about what makes good basketball video game highlights. We discuss how unique scenarios, rare animations, and context add importance, emotion, and just plain "oomph" to plays on the virtual hardwood. We're also sorry that NBA Live 10's Fantasy Teams mode is a thing of the past. In this week's mailbag, we're talking about RetroArch, and the possibility of special editions of NBA Live or NBA 2K that utilise old school aesthetics.

NLSC Podcast #377: You Know It's An NBA Game, Right?

Hosts: Andrew & Dee4Three

We tip things off by paying tribute to the late Mark Eaton. Reflecting on the first two weeks of the revitalised NLSC Top 10 Plays of the Week, we note that NBA-oriented gaming highlights are rarer these days. This leads to a discussion on the decline in popularity of NBA-oriented modes, in favour of online team play. We note that current attitudes towards the NBA and changing demographics among gamers play a huge role here. Meanwhile, things haven't been as rosy with NBA Live 10 and Parsec this past week, but we're not giving up our retro kick just yet. In this week's mailbag, we're talking about NBA Live possibly using the Frostbite engine, and looking back at NBA Courtside 2002.

NLSC Podcast #378: The Hangar & The Workshop

Hosts: Andrew & Dee4Three

Having sorted out our issues with Parsec, we've enjoyed a full week of basketball gaming. From epic clashes with video game legends in NBA Live 10 to co-op play in NBA 2K Playgrounds 2, we've had a lot of fun on the virtual hardwood and blacktop this week! Spotlighting recent modding developments leads to us discussing various ideas for retro rosters, as well as philosophies for rating players. We also react to the recent leaks regarding the cover players for the standard and Legend editions of NBA 2K22. In this week's mailbag, we're looking back at the NBA 2K21 Next Gen trailer, and discussing some interesting issues with licensing and likeness rights.

NLSC Podcast #379: It's Something Unpredictable

Hosts: Andrew & Dee4Three

Owing to a mixture of fatigue and satisfaction with NBA 2K21, we've been getting our virtual hardwood fix elsewhere this past week. NBA 2K20, NBA Live 10, and even NBA Live 95 have been in the rotation, though NBA 2K20 reminded us of some woefully inaccurate ratings for players on the historical teams. We've also still trying to get more games working on Parsec. A recent favourite is receiving regular roster updates, and we're inspired to brainstorm some out-of-the-box modding ideas. In this week's mailbag, we consider the potential impact of NFL 2K on future NBA 2K titles. We also get philosophical about times in our lives that we'd revisit, for basketball gaming and other reasons.
