I also prefer to save my work in progress in a layered format so I can edit or reuse the file easily. Save as PSD in Photoshop or PSPimage in Paint Shop Pro. GIMP has it's own native file format. This will come in handy if you use the edited stadium for another team. It make it easy to change colors of seats or change the advertising. Then save this file as a DDS for importing.
Some scoreboards have text for the home team that can be edited (ex HORNETS or HOME). Some backboards have text on top of the backboard. Usually the team website. I usually try to replace any team identity images and NBA references if you are editing for a college or international stadium. If you have the talent the seatback colors for the team bench can be changed. The banners hanging from the roof can also be edited. It all depends on how picky you are.
